4 out of 5 eggsGreat gameplay, lackluster story

Pros: This game brings a new twist on the Kingdom Hearts Series, both good and bad. The Panel system was a great idea that works quite well, and makes building your strength a whole new experience. The story explores Roxas' backstory, and adds some new material to the series.

The combat in the game is nothing to laugh at. This is not an easy game on Standard difficulty. I died more times on standard in this game than I ever did the entire time I played the first Kingdom Hearts game, both normal and Hard mode. That said it's easily doable, just approach things with a bit more caution than normal. Also read up on what weapons to use, having the right weapon makes things easily twice as easy.

Cons: While the story did add some new things, it was probably the least story driven of any Kingdom Hearts game. The setup of the story is great, but you only get bits an pieces after missions. Half of the time the characters are simply lamenting, repeatedly, for multiple scenes.

After you beat the game, you can go back and do repeat missions, and special missions. But honestly, by the time you beat the game, you are tired of missions.

Other Thoughts: I really wanted to rate this game three eggs, but i can't bring myself to. The story is minimal, the missions get very boring very fast, and it just didn't have the usual epic Kingdom Hearts feel. But besides those gripes the gameplay is excellent, and it's fun if you take an occasional break now and then.

One last note, the hard difficulty in this game (Proud Mode) is an absolute nightmare. Do not even think of attempting it unless you are certain you will not throw your DS at the wall in frustration. Between the difficulty and having to redo all of those missions, well...good luck.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Keeps the gameplay of the previous games with some new features like the panel system and it has multiplayer cooperative play using more than one Nintendo DS and game. The storyline shows how Roxas joined the Organization and worked for them.

Cons: Unlike the previous games, this game is all mission-based. You no longer have the freedom of just traveling to other worlds at any time unless it's for a specific mission. Also, when doing the missions certain areas are blocked off.

Other Thoughts: Despite the lack of freedom, this is a very fun game that any Kingdom Hearts fan should get if they have a Nintendo DS or DSi.
