An honest scribblenauts review
- Pros: +Absolutely mindblowing selection of words: you can, in fact, summon almost anything.
+Some funny moments and some real WOW! moments. +Cute little visuals function adequately. +Large amount of levels to play.
- Cons: -By far the worst controls I've ever had the displeasure of using in a video game, hands down and without a single doubt. Moving Maxwell is nightmarish, moving objects is clunky and the camera frequently snaps back to Maxwell.
-So many objects don't function how you'd like them to and some behave oddly, like not weighing enough to depress a simple lever. -Bugs galore; Maxwell, if falling quickly enough through the air, will simply clip through a chain of ropes you've set to catch him in a pit. -Many, many, many objects are functionally identical and you'll find yourself using the same (or essentially the same) 5-10 objects to solve every level. -Generic, uninteresting, carbon-copy puzzle and action levels that fail to engage or at least hold the player's attention past the third or fourth world.
- Other Thoughts: I had been looking forward to this game since the day it was announced in April by IGN. I was sorely disappointed and after wasting my money on Drawn to Life and Lock's Quest, and now this, I'm never going to buy another 5th Cell shovelware game for as long as I live.
Rating interpretation: 5/5: Great/Excellent 4/5: Good 3/5: Average/OK 2/5: Bad 1/5: Big Rigs Over the Road Racing
Avoid this game. Final Verdict: 2/5: Bad.
a clever game
- Pros: It's a one of a kind game. The word list is astounding, and beyond that the interaction between the objects and the environment is better than I had expected. The puzzles are very fun, as so long as you are willing to use your own creativity.
- Cons: The character movement in this game is terrible. I wished they had mapped movement to the directional keys, rather than using a point and click system.
- Other Thoughts: Where the puzzles are quick but plentiful, this is a perfect game to just play while traveling, or procrastinating :D
Another good DS title.
- Pros: The vocabulary of the game is pretty extensive. The gameplay is just hard enough to make you have to think creatively, but easy enough for anyone around to just pick up and play.
Plenty of levels to play on, especially if you include "Action" mode. Great for kids, teens, and adults alike. Any game with Cthulu AND keyboard cat is a game to be reckoned with.
- Cons: Getting Maxwell anywhere is a chore. He'll run where you don't want him to go if you aren't a wizard with the DS stylus, the game is too easy if you are playing to win, and the majority of the "odd" items in the dictionary are simply useless.
- Other Thoughts: A must-have for puzzle fans.
