The island of Banoi is a lush, tropical paradise in the South Pacific where its flagship Royal Palms Resort serves as the ultimate getaway for vacationers with money to burn. However, all good things must soon come to an end - and the picturesque resort falls into madness, carnage and chaos after a mysterious and contagious zombie outbreak claims its once peaceful atmosphere. Cut off from the rest of the world, only four individuals who strangely find themselves immune to zombification have the power to protect the remaining survivors from the horrors of the island, to discover what's really going on and find a way to escape before their own fatal ends.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty fun, lots of gameplay

Pros: Entertaining, gore galore, several days worth of single player game play to run through the game once (then you can run through it again and again while keeping your stuff but increasing your level and getting better items).

Cons: The graphics are a little dated, particularly the zombie and NPC graphics. NPCs mouths barely move when they talk, and look about like ventriloquist dummies. Driveable vehicles don't take any visible damage other than a broken window and some smoke from the engine. The game gets a little repetitive and tedious.

Other Thoughts: This is unquestionably worth the <$20 price tag, just based on the single player campaign alone. Since I was doing all of the side quests and some unnecessary killing and exploring, it took me about a day and a half, maybe 2 days just to finish the first act of the game. That's longer than many similar style games take to finish the whole game, so I was expecting that the game was going to end at that point, but boy was I wrong.

I forget exactly how many "acts" there are to the game, but I'd say there are at least 5 of them, each with their own huge map areas and unique quests that have to be completed before moving on. On top of that there are also several side areas/maps within each of those acts. For example the 2nd act of the game is a very large slum area of town, but beneath the town there's an extensive sewer system which also leads to other large unique areas, and all of that is just in act 2. On average you can expect each act to take at least a full day to complete, probably more if you do all of the side quests.

In all, it took me about a good week of intense game play to finish the single player campaign. Since that's about how long it takes to finish I haven't played multi-player co-op or anything else yet, so I can't speak to any other game modes. Apparently you can play multi-player campaign co-op online, and players that have higher progress than you can join your game. Sounds cool.

There aren't many games that offer a week or more of fun single player campaign play for under $20, plus multi-player on top of that!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Game

Pros: This game is tons of fun. I bought two of them so my wife and I could play together on a team. The team concept really makes this game great. I don't know if I would enjoy this game as much as I do if I were playing it alone. It is clearly designed with online coop in mind. That being said, if you have nobody to play with, you can still have tons of fun with this game. There are plenty of weapons and customizations, as well as skill tree options. Plus, smashing zombies, slicing heads, and even stomping faces all have a high level of gradification in this game. The feeling I get when hacking a zombie reminds me of getting huge crits in World of Warcraft.

Cons: Texture loading is slow when transitioning from loading screens. There is no skill reset built into the game. This is a HUGE con to me. I would like...no...I DEMAND the ability to reset my skill trees if I want to. Techland, make it happen in a patch please. The aim assist when using guns is really bad. I'm not sure if there is a way to turn off the aim assist because I haven't investigated it yet. But if there isn't, there should be.

Other Thoughts: The cons are mostly minor, and will probably be addressed in future updates. Even if they weren't though, I'd still have to give this game 5 eggs. It is just way too much fun for me to take any eggs off. Be careful with your skill points, because you can't reset them. That's the best advice I can give you. Other than that, team up with at least one partner to make the game more fun.

3 out of 5 eggsTough to Review

Pros: Ok. So the game is awesome because it's really long, has tons of side-quests, weapons, mods, and places to explore. You can play it strategically or all out combat (although that's pretty tough.)

Cons: Glitchy, terrible story, repetitive at some points, and a little frustrating. The worst is probably the story. As for the repetitiveness, lots of RPGs do that. Occasionally the game will freeze, much like Fallout.

Other Thoughts: It's pretty hard to rate, it's a tough mix of good and bad. If you can play with friends, that'll definitely be more fun and worth it. The game will probably require a lot of patience for most. But if you're a zombie fiend, waiting for the apocalypse to come, this game is perfect for you. If you play it the right way, it's an awesome game. I don't exactly know how to explain what I mean by that, but maybe you know what I mean.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: huge level of weapon customization i mean i thought fallout new vegas had decent customization options for an open world game but dead island puts it to shame, the graphics are very nice and the control layout was well thought out.

Cons: sometimes it feels like the controls were overthought sometimes you'll try to get in a car and get in on the other side or you pick up a weapon and it automatically switches with the weapon already equipped but these are minor flaws that you get used to.

Other Thoughts: the best zombie game i have ever played and i have played every one since re1, also one of the best open world shooters i have ever had the pleasure of playing. oh and you can spartan kick zombies in the face, very nice.
