Controls are retarted!
- Pros: Fun to play with somebody that doesn't know how the controls work either.
- Cons: CONTROLS! Ive been playing the NHL series from the 01 game, then 03, then 06, then 08 on ps2, and now 08 on ps3. But the ps3 version of NHL 08 is horrible, even If I try and switch to classic controls it will still put the "Skill Stick" into the gameplay. Its impossible to do the moves they do in their video's, Ill just get the PS2 one again ....
- Other Thoughts: Graphics are good and stuff, but whats the point if you cant play the game!
Great game
- Pros: Great quick game play. Good difficulty levels to match skill but keep it challenging as you improve. Player control feels natural both in skating and puck control. Multi-player is fun both cooping and versus. Game detail is awesome: stadium art, facial features (not perfect, but better than I expected), jerseys, you name it.
- Cons: Goalie control is hard/lacking and I hardly ever turn it on. Passing occasionally goes to the wrong player (like going back out to the point instead of the man traversing the slot when on offense).
- Other Thoughts: I am a huge hockey fan and this game does not disappoint. There are a fair amount of game features that I have not investigated that seem pretty cool like play creation and dynasty mode. I usually just boot it up to play a quick game. Go PENS!

No more button mashers
- Pros: Great graphics. Impressive commentary that not only sounds good but gives you sound advice on your game. Good sound. AI is much improved over previous NHL titles. Practice mode lets you work on just about any scenario that could occur in a hockey game. All the bells and whistles you would expect from the latest generation EA sports game.
- Cons: Haven't really come across a con yet.
- Other Thoughts: Although I'll give the game a good review I will say it is the least played title that I have. Not because it's a bad game it's just that the other three I own are awesome (MGS4, GTA4, COD4). The new control setup has a step learning curve and can feel not so natural if you've been playing NHL games for a while. However, as with other games that have been coming out for PS3 they aren't really designing them for kids anymore. This is a truly challenging hockey game and if you are a fan of hockey games this is a good buy for your PS3.

Introduction
Electronic Arts goes all-out to bring you a game that so closely captures the experience of an NHL game that you'll swear you're watching the real deal. A completely revamped skating engine coupled with a dynamic AI system combine to deliver puck-slapping realism to the palm of your hand. Vary your speed on the ice – just like reality – with the ability to move from skating smoothly to sprinting after the puck and down to gliding along the ice.
The adaptive On the Fly AI provides as challenging, realistic feel with opponents setting screens and attempting to spread the defense or charging rebounds on offense and smoothly shifting to defense where it'll attempt to close lanes, clear the puck or just plain get physical down low. The AI will adjust to your style of play - kill and patience will be rewarded while being over-aggressive could cost you the game.
The in-game announcing duo of Gary Thorne and Bill Clement do more than provide color commentary, they'll provide hints about how the opposing team is shifting strategies. The Create-A-Play feature lets you generate about 70 different plays to match almost any situation on the ice – just like in training. The ability to deke has been added to the control system allowing you to control where you point your skates and the puck to play around a defenseman. Every AHL roster has been added, enabling you to call up players and Goalie Mode puts you between the pipes for an entire game. Online leagues with full stat tracking are accompanied by the ability to play three vs. three to prove who truly has ice in their veins.
