With a two decade career, the Madden NFL series has lasted longer than the careers of most players, but still scores a touchdown when it comes to putting you on the gridiron and having a great game. The new "Madden IQ" system adapts to your skill level based on your performance in the Virtual Trainer drills - and adjusts the game's difficulty. The EA Sports Backtrack replay feature analyzes the plays in a TV-style telestrator format, helping you improve your game. If you blow a crucial play, you can use the Rewind feature to do it over. Two players with differing skill levels can compete on an even playing field using the handicapping feature.
Revamped graphics are highlighted by improved stadium models and details including realistic weather effects that'll see the turf turned to mud during scrimmages in the rain –which will affect your players' performance. Television-style openings, booth commentators and HD quality video, along with improved player models, faces and clear visors will make you believe this is Monday Night Football.
Take total control of your team with Franchise mode, or just the running back using an improved animation system that'll have you breaking tackles on your way down the field. Return missed field goals, set audibles and even choose your style of celebrating a touchdown. For the first time, online league play is available with up to 32 players taking part in a NFL season including an NFL draft and making trades among their teams. Capture your triumphant moments and create your own highlight reel to share on EA Sports World.

Madden 09
- Pros: No pros.
- Cons: Yes....All garbage....same game just like previous Maddens. Real lagging issues on PS2 version...5-6 secs delay after every down...Unenjoyable.
- Other Thoughts: At $40+ it's still very hard to justify purchasing this game. Fanboys, don't have to agree, just think outside of the box.
Madden '09
- Pros: Hmmm, have to get back to you on that.
- Cons: Man only a 1,000 characters allowed! 500 rap songs. The commentators have been saying the same things for 5 years. The "end of the game" animations exactly the same for 5 years. Graphical leaks, you can see thru some players heads, and thru the sidelines. Touchdown animations sometimes go thru the back of the endzone, into the stands, you can't see the player doing his little dance. The worst? For me, it's not being able to use your custom playbook in game. Only can use it for practice. Who the heck practices anyways?! Should be allowed to use custom playbhook in season mode. What's the purpose of having it then?
- Other Thoughts: Every year, same thing. EA hasn't changed the game in 5 - 6 years. I have to question, why everyone keeps buying this game. It's the same thing with updated rosters. The updated rosters leaves enough to be desired, sometimes they are just dead wrong. Why does the game come out, before the rosters are finalized? The game should come out the 2nd week of the regular season. So you have the right players on the right team, and you can tweek the stats for players based on their pre-season actions. I rented this, I wasn't dumb enough to buy it. I will not be purchasing this game.
