NCAA Football 2009 captures the dynamic energy that is college football – both on and off the field. The improved branching animation feature not only frees your player from having to complete one action before beginning another, but lets you link together jukes, spins and stiff-arms into fluid action as you weave your way through the defense towards the end zone. Running backs aren't the only beneficiaries as your quarterback can pump fake and receivers can make one-handed catches while defensive linemen can hit high or low and gang up on tackles.
If your quarterback throws an interception, he can become rattled. The new "Quarterback Quiz" mini-game gives you the chance for him to regain his composure by reviewing photos on the sidelines to determine which defense was run to stop the play. Success means he's recovered while failure is sure to lead to more mistakes. Around you, the accurately rendered stadiums are brought to life with sideline personnel and crowds that chant and bands playing fight songs. If your quarterback has lost his nerve, the crowd acts as a "twelfth man" to further erode his confidence. But for successful plays, the crowd and sidelines come alive and you can trigger your choice of celebrations – including getting the mascot involved.
The Campus Legend mode returns letting you build up your athlete from high school star to Heisman candidate. Balance academic and athletic performance to boost your player's attributes. Dynasty mode also returns and lets you get deeply involved in the activities of building a successful football program including detailed pitching of potential players. Family Play mode offers simplified gameplay for novices with single-button presses and even voice instructions and play suggestions.
