Features

Features
Need for Speed™ SHIFT is an award-winning authentic racing game that combines the true driver’s experience with real-world physics, pixel-perfect car models, and a wide range of authentic race tracks. Need for Speed SHIFT takes players in a different direction to create a simulation experience that replicates the true feeling of driving high-end performance cars.

Features

True Driver’s Experience – A variety of visual cues delivers the true driver’s experience including a three-dimensional HUD that mimics driver head movement, inertia and G-forces. The depth of field also adjusts based on the speed of the car; so when the car is travelling at high speeds the perspective will shift to the distance putting the car/cockpit out of focus.

Driver Profile – What kind of driver are you? Driver profile tracks the player’s evolution as a race driver from event to event. This system is made up of a driver’s personality on the track, their success rate and any profile points and badges accrued all of which work together to create a tailor-made career and gameplay experience. Driver profile is pervasive throughout all modes: career and online.

Dynamic Crash Effect - When the player hits a static object or opponent car, the player will feel like they are 'taking damage'. A combination of visual and audio effects will leave the player disorientated and briefly disrupt the race.

Total Customization – Need for Speed SHIFT features a comprehensive customization option that lets the player tailor every aspect of the cars performance and styling. Go under the hood to upgrade and tune your vehicle to increase its performance. The visual customization system allows players to personalize both the exterior and trick out the interior to reflect their individual style and preferences.

5 out of 5 eggsHUsoldier Feels The Need For Speed

Pros: Nice quality racing game with stunning visuals and excellent sound. The cars sound great and each car has an accurate engine/exhaust note. The NFS Shift intro. is epic! Shift is very challenging and takes quite a while to become great, which I like in racing games. Shift is challenging and earning money takes time, but you can sell aftermarket parts you bought and the car itself for the same price you paid for it. This allows you try out cars and see if you like them instaed of being stuck with it or taking a large loss trading it in like in the other NFS games.

Cons: Loading time is not great. Cars have good customization, but could have a lot more. EA never has Ferrari in their racing games. This game is far from a racing simulator like advertised, but luckily I know what to expect from EA so I was not disappointed at all.

Other Thoughts: Game is not GT5, but is a quality racing game that is challenging and will take quite a bit of time to complete, which is good to see from a racing game. Gave it 5 eggs because this is about as good as an "EA" racing game is going to get so grab it and start racing now!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat game, great service

Pros: Great service by newegg, great game like real life driving experience.

Cons: Ps3 loads the game, so slow between races; other then that great game, I enjoyed it a lot.

Other Thoughts: Ps3 games are so expensive, if you want to stuck with one game, and want to play it for relaxing purpose it is worth it.

3 out of 5 eggsI Feel the Need For Speed

Pros: I like most of the cars available, with only minor exceptions. Graphics are good, and so is sound. The game is straight forward and simple, but challenging. Vehicles are fully customizable, and can be tweaked to race, or drift specifications. The tracks that are provided are great also, you really feel like you’re in the race. Multiple hud modes are great, the cockpit hud is cool, but ineffective. You level up your driving level by completing challenges throughout the event. Like: knocking out opponents without going off the track yourself, or performing clean laps without going off track. It’s pretty realistic in a sense, but not near a simulator.

Cons: I said the game was challenging, but in a sense it is really just extremely complicated. You have to be intricate with your maneuvers or you wipe out all together, you really have to be focused to play well. If the racing is hard, the drift is more problematic, it took me several days to master drift and I’m still not there yet all the way. Loading takes an eternity, why? Also adjusting the right settings on any car takes forever, because you need to tweak based on trial and error. So every time I change the spring rate I have to wait for the race, or time attack to load. If I don’t get it right I have to do it all over again. Big hassle makes the game not worth playing.

Other Thoughts: I’m angry about the fact NewEgg is selling NFS for $40, when I paid $60 somewhere else. By far the best NFS ever made, but not quite at the level of Gran Tourismo. If you like difficult games then its worth getting, especially at $40 bucks, it will hold you over until GT5 comes out.

4 out of 5 eggsNeed for Speed: Shift

Pros: Great game with "mind-bending" visuals. Over the past few years, NFS games kind of sucked. Ever since NFS Most Wanted, I was really expecting something better from EA. And finally, they made a game comparable to NFS MW. Not really a hard core racing game fan, I mean...I like all intense games (i.e. FPS), but this game is intense, great online, and has most of the cars people love. Another thing I like about this game is the race tracks are incredibly accurate, such as Nüremberg and Laguna Seca. Cars are fast and loud, nailed the sound on the tire screeching. Plus, you can sell your car for exactly the amount of money you put into it, unlike Most Wanted.

Cons: Game on my PS3 takes terribly long to load. No Ferraris, and EA, if you are reading this, you have to have FERRARIS in your game. There are Lambos, Porches, Mercs, BMWs, practically every supercar you can imagine, but no Ferrari. Should make more money doing endurance racing, for doing 10-20 laps on a long track, I expect to make 500,000 not 40,000. The game has been out for a while, and really needs to go down in price.

Other Thoughts: Overall, a good game. Has some flaws, but is still really great. I can't wait to get this on my gaming rig I'm building! :)

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Game - A lot of fun!

Pros: Great game, a lot of fun to play! You get points both for racing well and knocking out your opponents at the same time. It's always fun to be rewarded for bad behavior :)

The lineup of cars is really nice, my Lamborghini Murcielago drives like a dream. Racing the Bugatti Veyron is also a lot of fun. The graphics are nice, i'd give them a 4 out of 5 there. 1080 would be nice on the next go round. The game is just a lot of fun to play all around.

Cons: No major cons. The game does keep trying to get you log online at the beginning which is a bit annoying if you don't want to do so. Maybe you can turn that off, I haven't dug into it yet.

2 out of 5 eggsNot as advertised...

Pros: A nice little arcade racing game (check Cons) with great graphics and all the cars I grew to love over the years. It's NFS so I didn't expect much...

Cons: My main issue with the game is that it was marketed and hyped as a racing simulator. I got this game to pass the time until Gran Turismo 5 came out. The opening cinematic had me excited. When I got to racing though, I realized something. It's GRID, but EA style. GRID itself felt like a dressed up arcade racer that had its difficulty pumped up. That's NFS:Shift in a nutshell... I quit after a few races out of disgust...

Also, to the guys at the Newegg California warehouse: You shipped this and Uncharted 2 a day later than when I ordered them. I didn't get it until today due to the holidays, but I won't hold it against the product. Just thought I would add it.

Other Thoughts: If you want a racing game that's harder than conventional arcade racers, try this game out. Otherwise, pass it. It will only disappoint those who are looking for a simulator.

4 out of 5 eggsCool game with some minor quirks

Pros: Graphics are the best i've seen in a racing game, the physics are pretty realistic too. I like how EA combined elements of a sim racer with an arcade racer. This combination creates a very fun and enjoyable racing game that doesn't get too repetitive and boring over time.

Cons: Graphics output only supports 720p. I don't know what EA was thinking when they decided not to allow the game to upscale to 1080i/p, which basically every other game for ps3 can do. Given that most HDTV's support 720p outputs though, its not that big of a deal. However, if you have an older TV that only supports 1080i for instance, you will not be able to play this game in HD.

Also, I don't care for the drifting events in this game. It reminds me of that terrible fast and the furious movie.

1 out of 5 eggsdon't waste your money

Pros: graphics and sound

New Egg rocks!!!

Cons: car physics are absolute garbage. cars react twitchy, drifting is impossible. computer cars AI act as if you aren't there, this is no way like a racing simulator. car customization is medocre at best. applying custom graphics is next to impossile due to the lack of tools available to actually customize the look of your car.

Other Thoughts: honestly I do not know what EA was thinking. I tried to like this game and give it a fair shot, but it is just not fun to play and is absolutely annoying. do yourself a favor, save 60 bucks or get dirt 2. If you are yearning for a good racing sim. wait until GT5 comes out (if ever). They say this was suppose to be a cross between a sim and an arcade style game...it FAILS miserably. Now I am stuck with a 60 dollar paperweight until I can trade it in and possibly recoup some of my $$.because it will never go in my PS3 again.

1 out of 5 eggsNot DONE!

Pros: Graphics are ok...
Physics are good if you can keep from bouncing
good car selection
has potential

Cons: It really feels like the developers didn't get to finish the game, and the reason i say didn't get to instead of didn't is bacause the game is sooo full of bugs. Let me list the ones i've found.
-Sound starts to skip when you go fast
-Sound sometimes gets really deep like underwater
-Can't apply vinyl.
-The game seems to slow down when there is a lot going on, then all of the sudden pick up and you end up in the wall.
-AI don't care about your car, the follow the preset line for the track
-many more plus the ones already shared.

They need to come out with a patch, quick. I can't believe such a game was even put out to the market.

Other Thoughts: don't buy it, yet....
