Battlefield Goes Next-Gen!

Battlefield 4 is powered by the advanced technology of DICE’s exclusive Frostbite 3 engine for a visceral, dramatic experience unlike any other. Blur the line between game and glory in Battlefield 4.

Only in Battlefield will you experience the intensity of Revolution, dynamically changing the environment by cutting the power to a building and shrouding your enemies in darkness or reducing a skyscraper to rubble. Only in Battlefield will you lead a naval assault from the back of a gun boat. Battlefield grants you the freedom to do more and be more while playing to your strengths and carving your own path to victory.

In addition to its hallmark multiplayer, Battlefield 4 features an intense, dramatic character-driven campaign that starts with the evacuation of American VIPs from Shanghai and follows your squad's struggle to find its way home.

4 out of 5 eggsStill Great!

Pros: Campaign isn't the main feature of this game, although it's quite enjoyable, of course after 1 play through it isn't very entertaining.
But the multiplayer is what people buy this game for and 64 player battles are great! Bought this game on last gen when it was first released and repurchased it for PS4 and I'm still loving it. Highly recommended.

Cons: Bumped this review down 1 egg because of the initial bugs it faced, although now I haven't encountered a bug or glitch in months!

1 out of 5 eggsToo Faulty to Play

Pros: The graphics are good. The story was entertaining. The weapon selection was good.

Cons: It Crashes and I can't play-on past the tank battle. I was really enjoying the game but once I got to the tank battle in the square along the river, the game kept crashing. I've re-started the game from the beginning but it keeps crashing making the game an unpleasant experience to go through.

Other Thoughts: I would have at least rated this game a 4 star if it weren't for the crashes.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's okay.

Pros: They brought back commander mode. The graphics and destructible environments are better than ever.

Cons: I've only had it for a few days and I've run into several bugs. They've done nothing to innovate over previous games in the series. The maps are small compared to BF2. The map design isn't all that good. Pay to win micro-transactions are evil, shame on you EA.

Other Thoughts: It's the best FPS on the PS4, at least until destiny comes out, but not as good as the older games in the series. Still, it's typical Battlefield so if you like the rest of the series you'll like this.

3 out of 5 eggsCampaign is worth it.

Pros: Very fun to watch.

Cons: Unstable and unreachable EA servers.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure that EA will eventually figure out how to run a server, i mean, if i can do it alone, then 20 payed employees should be able to do it 20 times faster... so 1 half of a day? sounds about right.

BF4 looks a lot like BF3... know why? because it is BF3, only face lifted to be what was promised in BF3. Now you know.

2 out of 5 eggsFun while it lasted

Pros: It's a really fun FPS. Graphics are smooth for the most part. I like the customization on weapons even down to the rail type and barrel. Maps are well designed. I love all the vehicles.

Cons: When starting a match, the graphics and audio take several seconds to 'catch up'. Internet connection is extremely fast, I get consistent 100/20.

Randomly crashed with the same errors everyone else gets.

The game is just plain broke. They released it incomplete with the plan of fixing it as they go, but it's now been 4 months and nothing has changed. In fact it's gotten worse......

Game stopped working randomly. All of my other games still work online. This one did not. I updated and it sat at the black screen with the white blinking cursor before even getting to a menu. All my ports are open, I have the recommended NAT type. Nothing worked. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and the same thing. Nothing changed from the day before with my internet, my connection, my PS4... one night it was working, the next day it wouldn't even start.

I submitted the error and contacted EA. I haven't heard a single word about it, it's been 3 weeks. This is my first time buying a Battlefield game, and it will be my last. I'll never buy another EA video game after this. Essentially $100 down the drain.

Other Thoughts: The game was fun when it was working. I've been a programmer for 15 years and before that a network admin. Every time I tell people my issue they point the finger at me as if I don't know what I'm doing or I didn't open my ports right. I assure you, this isn't the case. I have done everything above and beyond to fix the issue.

The thing is this, though. I'm very tech savvy. If I'm unable to get this game to work with all of the port forwarding/DMZ settings/etc... what chance does the regular Joe who doesn't do this stuff for a living have of successfully playing this game? A better question is; why should he even have to do this garbage?

EA couldn't care less about my problem. How do I know, besides the fact that I haven't heard a response in 3 weeks? Because what are they busy fixing? They're adding ADS... yes ADVERTISEMENTS! to Battlefield... instead of fixing the issues. I don't want to get too far into that, but if I pay for your game outright, and you want to put popups at the menus, don't expect me to ever purchase your products ever again.

The only reason I'm giving it above 1 star is because when the game 'worked' it was pretty fun.

Buy this game if you like to gamble.

4 out of 5 eggsMuch better looking on PS4 than PS3, but

Pros: I have it on PS3 and got it on PS4 for the measly 10 buck upgrade. It is far more crisp and smooth playing on the PS4. It also crashes far less than it does on ps3, and when it does crash it doesn't lockup your system, just gives a crash report and option to submit it. However, that is due to the PS4, not the game.

Cons: Still crashes, but I have had other PS4 games crash too. Such is the way of software.

My real beef with it is that they changed the trigger buttons. I am use to having my fire button as R1 from playing on the PS3, however on PS4 it is R2 and you cant change it for the life of you. It's probably the PS4's fault with how they designed the R2/L2 buttons to feel like triggers, but DICE really could and should have had the option to change the fire button back to R1 for those who are use to playing like that. -1 egg for that!

They also have this thing where assignments, weapons, and game modes you cant even download the DLC for yet are select-able in-game and on the game mode select screen. Really wish they wouldn't do that :/ teases are not cool.

Other Thoughts: Overall, happy with it. Tho the DLC tease is bad, I am happy to see that the battlefield 2125 carrier assault is coming back. I really missed that and cant wait til it becomes available, even tho it isnt set in the future with floating ships and shield systems. BF4 has more weapon choices than 2125 anyways, so meh.

1 out of 5 eggsskip it

Pros: Buildings collapse?.. whatever

Cons: buggy, crashes, online is terrible. I am coming from BF3 on PC, so maybe some of it is due to the PS4. But I am thoroughly disgusted with the downhill slide of the BF franchise. How do you go from the best ever to the worst ever that quick? Its like they decided that they could put out a piece of junk and still sell it and make millions.

Other Thoughts: Some maybe due to PS4, button/controller lags, massive delay on online MP, but I have not noticed the lag in COD, Online servers are terrible.... I could go on and on...

3 out of 5 eggsCmon EA!

Pros: Incredible 'next-gen' graphics if you have a card good enough. I just dropped 500 bucks on an nVidia GTX 780. However, my mobo only has PCI-e 2.0, I don't think it bottlenecks the graphics all that much, if at all. I get 60FPS on optimal settings and ~23FPS if I've got everything on Ultra. This card can't even handle the game on Ultra graphics settings. I applaud BF4 for being that detailed on graphics. Because it really does look great even with optimal performance settings (Medium/high).

Cons: This game runs on Frostbite 3 engine, which still has really weird bugs: randomly dying when walking by debris, occasional extreme shakiness in vehicles (even with low ping), etc...

Also, the tickrate on most BF4 servers is only 10Hz, which is almost a joke compared to games that are much older with 120Hz precision. It's just annoying when you're playing as recon(sniper) class and you clearly hit someone, your game client registers the hit, but the server doesn't. and if you play this game as recon, TRUST ME, YOU WILL NOTICE!

OH and don't even get me started on Origin. Terrible game client launcher.. I swear it's like Steam's annoying younger brother. It's clumsy software, crashes often, operates slowly, and there's no way to limit your download speed.

Other Thoughts: I've been a fan of battlefield ever since BF1942, and I'd say that EA has come a long way in terms of concepts.. But sometimes I just feel like the Frostbite needs to go ruin some other game. EA should hire a better team of developers or just tell them to start from scratch for Battlefield 5.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat as expected

Pros: It's Battlefield.

Cons: It's buggy. And anyone without a thought can blame dice or EA FOR THE BUGS, but really, it's a new console, and a new game, there's gonna be bugs. And there's gonna be patches that fix them too. So sure be closed minded and ignorant if you choose to, but wait until the game (AND PLATFORM) have been out a while so you don't sound special.

Other Thoughts: Kthx.
