When Emperor Uriel Septim VII is assassinated, the transdimensional gates between the world of Cyrodiil and the Planes of Oblivion open and the demonic Daedra invade. Your character is tasked to return the last surviving member of the Septim line, recover the Amulet of Kings and close the gates.

How you do this is entirely up to you as the world of Cyrodiil is not only lushly rendered using the latest next-gen graphics and lighting and shading effects, but it is vast and designed for non-linear sandbox play with dynamic weather and lighting. The Plane of Oblivion – the otherworldly home of the Daedra – is also given the same level of detail. Wilderness quests, ruins and dungeons await as do urban environments – all populated by NPC's utilizing the Radiant AI system which brings them to life.

Rather than having to repeatedly walk through the same areas, rideable horses have returned as has the ability to teleport back to areas your character has already visited. Stealth, magic and combat skills have been rebalanced with combat skills streamlined. Missile attacks are now resolved based on actual hits and characters can actively block incoming enemy attacks with a successful block causing the foe to recoil – and creating the opportunity for an attack of your own. Exclusive to the PS3, the Knights of the Nine expansion is included to offer new lands, new opponents, new quests and more adventure. Additional content, equipment and missions can be downloaded to aid your quest.

Features

Features
Oblivion is a single-player game that takes place in Tamriel's capital province, Cyrodiil. You are given the task of finding the hidden heir to a throne that sits empty, the previous emperor having been killed by an unknown assassin. With no true Emperor, the gates to Oblivion (the equivalent of hell in the world of Tamriel) open, and demons begin to invade Cyrodiil and attack its people and towns. It's up to you to find the lost heir to the throne and unravel the sinister plot that threatens to destroy all of Tamriel.

In keeping with the Elder Scrolls tradition, players will have the option to experience the main quest at their own pace, and there will be plenty of opportunities to explore the vast world and make your own way. Numerous factions can be joined, such as the thieves or mages guilds, and each contains its own complete storyline and the chance to rise to the head of the faction and reap further rewards.

Oblivion features a groundbreaking new AI system, called Radiant AI, which gives non-player characters (NPCs) the ability to make their own choices based on the world around them. They'll decide where to eat or who to talk to and what they'll say. They'll sleep, go to church, and even steal items, all based on their individual characteristics. Full facial animations and lip-synching, combined with full speech for all dialog, allows NPCs to come to life like never before.

5 out of 5 eggsGame of the Decade?

Pros: Super addictive RPG. Hours and hours of game play, open world concept. If you don't know about Oblivion now, you must have just crawled out from underneath a rock. It's not an online game, which is nice, don't have to deal with whiny kids. This is the Greatest Hits edition, not the Game of the Year addition (GOTY), so there are more workarounds for the bugs dealing with the Shivering Isles expansion.

Cons: Super addictive RPG. Very easy to sink a couple hundred hours into. It's not online... I know, it was one of the pros, but sometimes it would be fun to do some co-op with friends.

Other Thoughts: Bought the original TES4: Oblivion for the PS3 when it came out, purchased another PS3 for my son, who is taking the original copy. Had to buy a copy for my daughter, this is the Greatest Hits version, not the GOTY edition, so a copy of the expansion Shivering Isles is needed if you want to play that expansion.

5 out of 5 eggsYep, it's good!

Pros: Ok where to start, Graphics, sound, playability, 10+ just make sure you use hdmi for your ps3 and a decent tv otherwise you wont be giving this game enough credit for its sound and graphics when you review it after you buy it. This has something in it for everyones taste, whether its strategy, action, quest, etc... it has a good addicting balance of every thing to it. Personally it satisfied my left over hunger from when I first picked up a copy of ff7 with the original ps. I could write a couple of pages describing why its great but I will make a comparable reference instead. I have personally put down these games so that I could play this one, gta IV, battlefield bad company, resistence, assasins creed, hl2 orange, and a few ps2 titles like ff12, metal gear etc...

Cons: Do not buy this if you have a full time job and are a full time student like me, as you will find that it will make you late for both, and take time away from your social life, and even your personal hygiene time!! Not to mention that sleep becomes an even greater rarity... I make a lot of saves through out the game so I have never been unhappy with any out come.

Other Thoughts: I'm an IT pro and used to build those gaming pc's but I went the ps3 route and am very happy now with the replacement. I purchased this game just based on reviews by sorting it in the games list section of the search without really knowing what it was about, now I am really looking forward to buying the newer release as soon as I am done with this one "if ever!". This game is so incredibly expansive its like another world, but it's well designed so you never get lost or dazed by its size. Incredidble, the amount of programmers it must have taken just to make one of these! I suspect bethesda must outsource greatly to lndia or something of the like becuase hiring a few thousand programmers to make some thing like this gets expensive at 70k a pop!

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the best

Pros: This is one of the best games ever made. the graphics are incredible, especially compared to my old computer i used to play on. Visual distace is really good, you can see distant mountains and buildings and cities. the NPCs have great face expressions and voice acting. Character customization is awesome and adds alot of replay value. The skill and attribute system is nice and very customizable. Overall a must have for the PS3.

Cons: I owned the PC version, and it's really buggy. I actually quit playing it because an NPC i needed to talk to for a quest just dissapeared. I haven't seen any gltches yet, but i'm sure i'll see one.
I wish the game was 1080p instead of 720p.

Other Thoughts: If you have a high end PC, get the PC version. but if you have a crummy computer like me and want to see this game in its glory and have a ps3, then get this game! now!

5 out of 5 eggsThe ultimate next-gen RPG

Pros: Wow... Where to start. Character customization is great, many classes and races to choose from or even make your own class. The graphics are phenomenal and the spell effects are awesome. The creatures you fight look great and the combat system is so fun. You can choose to use blade weapons or blunt, or maybe a little of both! If you like using a melee weapon but also like magic there's no stopping you from using it just because you chose a certain class. I've played well over 100 hours. Including all my other characters play time I'd say about 150 hours. No joke. My brother also has clocked in major hours playing this game. For how cheap this game is, you get like 5 hours of gameplay for every dollar you spend on this game. The voice acting is great though you hear a lot of the same voices over again. The world is very expansive and colorful. The story is pretty good. I could go on and on and on but I won't. Just get this game.

Cons: It doesn't have any sort of crafting system besides enchanting your own armor and weapons using Soul Gems, but that really doesn't take away from the gameplay at all.

Other Thoughts: THIS GAME IS WORTH 3 TIMES THE AMOUNT YOU WILL PAY FOR IT.

5 out of 5 eggsLooks Good on the "Big Screen"

Pros: Looks great on a 65" DLP. Good compromise between frame rate and graphic quality. Sound and music work well on a large surround sound system. Inellegent controller layout.

Cons: Only 720p graphics and not the same quality as high end PC with a high end video card. An occasional crash. Controller is not as precise as mouse and keyboard, especially for archery.

Other Thoughts: Should be able to load ESP file mods as they are essentially cripts and not dependent on PowerPC architecture of the Cell. Would love to have saddle bags and the larger map/menu screens

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but not the best version

Pros: Good graphics, excellent playability, almost endless gameplay (you will get bored at some point after all the quests are finished)

Cons: no mods yet, locks up once in a while but thats Bethesda, not PS3. I've tried it on three different PS3s and its the same problem.

Other Thoughts: I have a 2.4GHz Core2Duo, 2GB RAM, and an ATI X1650.....among the other required tidbits. At 1600x1200 the graphics are better than the PS3. Period. Especially at longer distances. However, in the PS3s favor, when I bought that system I paid $1500 and didn't get a Blu-ray player.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Game

Pros: Look great, plays great. Awesome rpg game in general, letting you do pretty much whatever you want. Also comes with downloadble content already "installed," so you can start off with the Knights of the Nine like I did.

Cons: Crashed a couple times but that might be the PS3. Also, no news of the Shivering Isle yet.

Other Thoughts: Totally pointless if you've already played on PC or Xbox360.

5 out of 5 eggsUnbelievable

Pros: The greatest game ever to be released on a Sony console and the only PS3 game worth $60. You'll never truly "finish" the game.

Cons: Will make you a worthless couch potato and you start talking like a nerd around your friends who have no idea what a level 19 Breton is.

Other Thoughts: This game is HUGE. ENDLESS. And extremely addictive (just ask the bags under my eyes).

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb game

Pros: One of the most engrossing, well-designed, and enjoyable games I've played.

Cons: This might sound silly, but it really bugs me: after you accumulate some gold in the game, you can buy houses in the various cities. But the houses available for sale are pretty crummy, regardless of price. Other NPC's have beautiful houses. Why not let the player get nice digs? How about a spiffy town house in the Imperial City?

Other Thoughts: I've wasted a huge amount of time in this addictive and very fun game. I've been a pc gamer for many years, since the original Doom, in fact. But recently bought a PS3, and found this to be the best PS3 game by far at this time. Graphics aren't as good as a high-end pc, but they're fine.
