Lara Croft is back and in the middle of the action in this 8th installment in the Tomb Raider series. The iconic archeologist is southern Mexico where she uncovers portals between our world and the Mayan underworld, Xibalba. This 3rd person action adventure game takes Lara around the world with Easter Island, the Golden Triangle and Mesopotamia among the exotic locations. Fluid motion capture brings Ms. Croft to life as she fights enemies and solves puzzles in photo-realistic action.

The innovative programming allows consistency of mechanics which allows Lara to simultaneously shoot at two targets with two weapons or to hold an object in one hand and use a rope in the second. Non-linear plots allow for varied game play. The environments are truly immersive with levels of interactivity never seen before. As Lara moves through the jungles of Chiapas, she can push the foliage out of her way with one or both hands, depending on whether she has a hand free.

Splattered mud will be washed away by the rain, and any destruction – to enemies or the environment – will remain. Objects can be manipulated in multiple manners – a grappling line can be used to drag an object and a pole can be used as a tool or a weapon. The weather becomes a dynamic factor with Lara more likely to slip off a wet ledge in the rain.

3 out of 5 eggsBlah

Pros: It's pretty long. The story is just interesting enough to keep me playing to the end. The levels are fairly challenging.

Cons: Graphics are glitchy and stuttering frame rates annoy when there are lots of effects like rain or bubbles on screen. Collision detection is very weak. I found myself half inside rocks or walls many many times. Camera angles are better than some games but the sheer number of times I had to move it to get plants out of my grill was shocking. From the first level forward you will have to babysit the camera. Most of the large platforming levels are just too much jump, hang, climb, repeat. You can walk into a room, look around 360 degrees and see that you will have to climb up and around it two or three times to get out. There are a lot of needlessly difficult jumps that kill you if done wrong. The facial/ skin renderings are weak and cartoonish -especially after playing Uncharted 1/2.

Other Thoughts: The saving grace of this game is that auto save points happen at the beginning of nearly every dangerous task so when you find yourself dying over and over at least you re-spawn very close to where you died. Load times are decent if not super fast, weapon choice is limited but effective, vehicles are kind of fun. The puzzles are disproportionately simple compared to the platforming.
Still, it's a solid Tomb Raider game.

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Someone in my family suggested this game to me and I scoffed at it, but I had quite a lot of fun with it. The graphics are excellent. If you enjoy puzzling your way through the ruins of ancient temples, you'll like it too.

Cons: Camera can be frustrating, movement is less than satisfactory, especially when navigating the motorcycle. Doesn't have a lot of replay value.

2 out of 5 eggssubpar at best

Pros: The graphics are quite good. Good enviromental details and I liked the fact you could choose how you were going to outfit Lara.

Cons: As most others, the camera angles were just plain horrible. The "freedom" involved in gameplay could let you just wander aimlessly without keeping you on target. The 3rd person shooter aspect is just plain boring.

Other Thoughts: This is one tired gameplay. It is time for Lara to retire. I could not finish the game, just not fun at all.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a game

Pros: This is a very good game for those that are in to the series. Looks great on the PS3. It's come a long way since the PS One versions.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Got this for a great deal on Black Friday. Nice addition to my collection.

4 out of 5 eggsFun Game

Pros: Great sequel to the series. Graphics are pretty nice. Puzzles are challenging. Bought if at a GREAT price. Thank you NEWEGG!

Cons: At times the contols are a bit rough. For the most part they are fine, but on occasions can be aggravating. Camera angles could be better. For this reason, I had to drop it one egg.

Other Thoughts: Best looking Tomb Raider to date!

5 out of 5 eggsNice Game

Pros: Its a fun game to play. Graphics are amazing.

Cons: I have always hated the controls. Everything seems inverted. Cameras will make you dizzy, but you get used to it.

Other Thoughts: I havent played a Tomb Raider game since 1998 and that was on the original PS. This really brings back memories. The graphics back then were choppy, but on the PS3 it looks great. This game is a bargain for twenty, I got it on here for thirteen. Money well spent.

5 out of 5 eggsFun Adventure Game!

Pros: Beautiful graphics from underwater caverns to jungles to tropical islands to frozen landscapes. Game was very fun to play. It's 80% adventure and 20% 3rd person shooter so you get to enjoy finding the way to work the world without constantly battling hordes of enemies.

Cons: Like the other reviewers mention, the cameras can make you move the wrong way. Seems the curse of the 3rd person game free camera game.

Other Thoughts: If you take the time to smell the roses and find the treasures the game has many hours of fun. If on the other hand you don't like playing games and want to just get it over with you can be done in 15hrs. I am not sure why you would play an ADVENTURE game to see how fast you can beat it, at least your first time through......

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Another tomb raider, nice graphics, pretty good story

Cons: Too short, beat it in less than 12 hours, although i haven't gone through a second time in "Treasure Hunt Mode". the same thing that wrong with all games like this, if you don't make sure to line up the camera, then line up your character before you make any kind off jump it acts stupid, like jumping towards a ladder but she decided to land a foot the the right and fall to her death.

Other Thoughts: All in all a pretty good game, might want to wait until the price comes down, but well worth the 60$ if your a die hard tomb raider fan.
