Announced in November of 2004 (and finally announced officially at E3 2005 by Hideo Kojima). The title is a next-generation adventure set in the aftermath of MGS2: Sons of Liberty. Kojima is in charge of as game design, production, and direction (along with additional director Shuyo Murata), with Ken-Ichiro Imaizumi producing the title and Yoji Shinkawa handling character design.

The concept behind the project is "No place to hide", and the new edition of the series will force Solid Snake into unexpected circumstances in an all-new storyline that breaks away in some ways from the previous MGS franchise entries.

Features
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the final chapter in the saga of Solid Snake which sends him around the world in pursuit of his arch nemesis, Liquid Ocelot. Armed with new gadgets and abilities, Solid Snake must shift the tides of war into his favor, using the chaos of the battlefield to infiltrate deep into enemy territory. In his globetrotting final mission, Snake must sneak deep into enemy locations in the Middle East, South America, and other corners of the earth to foil Liquid Ocelot’s plans for total world domination.

Several elements from previous titles return in modified forms. Players will also use a new form of camouflage called "Octocamo", which replaces the camouflage system featured in Metal Gear Solid 3. Dark blue when disabled, the Octocamo suit allows the wearer to blend in with any surface within a few seconds. Snake will also be partnered with a robotic drone, the Metal Gear Mk. II, which allows him to communicate with other characters, in addition to the CODEC radio system from previous games. It is also capable of engaging enemies using an electric shock, as well as providing reconnaissance.

The Metal Gear Online Starter Pack, included with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, is a squad-based, online multiplayer tactical shooter that supports up to 16 players and takes place in the Metal Gear Solid universe.

MGS4 pushes the power of the PLAYSTATION 3 to its limits with cutting edge graphics and surround sound. It also aims to be the hallmark title for the new DUALSHOCK3 controller.

Command Snake in his final mission which spans the entire globe as he attempts to foil Liquid Ocelot and his massive army of PMCs.

Influence the tides of war through both passive and active means. Snake can directly aid local militia who engage invading PMCs soldiers, or encourage more fighting to slip past undetected amidst the commotion.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic graphics!

Pros: Incredible game, I don't know where to start. The graphics as many have noted, are fantastic. If you like a stealth game, sneaking around rather than confrontation, this is definitely the game for you. The missions range from medium to hard difficulty and the story line, although complicated, is very entertaining and well explained.

Cons: There are so many cut-scenes! One of the criticisms of this game is that it can be like an interactive movie. This isn't necessarily a con, but I would rather spend more time in the action rather than watching.

Other Thoughts: I got this game last year, and it was already at least a year old. Still a fun and high quality game!

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good game

Pros: The game is graphically impressive and the storyline does a fairly good job of wrapping up, or at least addressing, many of the ongoing plot lines in the Metal Gear Solid series.

Cons: This game is Hideo Kojima's baby and it shows in all the worst ways. Cutscenes go on for over ten minutes quite often, the script is in dire need of several cuts and edits, entire conversations go by with absolutely nothing new being said or learned, or conversely important topics are glossed over and left completely unaddressed, and so on. People expect that from Kojima, though, so that largely gets a pass from fans. The worst part about this game--nay, the unforgivable part--is that combat is absolutely necessary, and the shooting in this game is abysmal. To fire your weapon from a first-person perspective, you'll have to press three different buttons. You can't move while you shoot. You frequently have several enemies firing at you, but you can't soak bullets; you will die because you're stuck trying to shoot when you need to be running.

Other Thoughts: It's a shame that the fourth chapter of the MGS series (and big system seller for the PS3) turned out to be so awful in the gameplay department. Konami tried to introduce cover-based shooting mechanics and just ended up watering down their franchise.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Intense!

Pros: This game is so intense! Great cutscenes. Great gameplay.

Cons: No PC version, I wish there was one.

Other Thoughts: don't start this game in the series, it gets too confusing. And when you play the other games it's more intense in 4.
