Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Nathan Drake has always claimed to be descended from the famed explorer Sir Francis Drake, so when a clue turns up that leads to a forgotten island in the middle of the Pacific Island, the modern day adventurer sets out to find a fortune. Along with his friends Elana Fisher and Victor Sullivan, he soon finds himself confronted by modern-day pirates and trapped in the lush, tropical jungles in a fight for survival. Take on humans and other enemies in hand-to-hand combat or using firearms and grenades.

You can fire blindly from behind cover or shoot over and around it for effect but be sure to take advantage of it. Enemies are smart and resilient foes who will attempt to flank you. Action includes fighting from vehicles with the opportunity to switch between characters as one drives and the other shoots. Instead of a health meter, the screen desaturates in color as you take damage – restoring after you've taken a breather. In addition, Nathan will have to solve environmental puzzles, climb walls, leap chasms and swing on vines on his way to recovering hidden treasure as well as unlocking hidden secrets 400 years old.

The environments truly come to life ranging from the moving shadows as the sun filters through the jungle canopy to the rusted hulk of a German sub. Similarly, the graphics are top-notch with clothing actually getting wet during rain storms or after swimming in the lagoon. The characters are fluidly animated using motion-capture and the dialog and voice acting is superb to provide a truly cinematic experience that is completely immersive. The spot-on AI of Elana and Victor mean that they are non-player characters who truly help out. Four levels of difficulty, 60 hidden treasures and 47 unlockable achievements provide hours of gameplay with the achievements providing in-game advantages. You'll swear that it's the jungle heat that you're feeling.

3 out of 5 eggsFun But...

Pros: This game started out really great. Not too much swear words.

Cons: Very Repetitive. Weird Ending.

Other Thoughts: Would play on easy mode so you can play Uncharted 2 as soon as possible.

5 out of 5 eggsStands the Test of Time

Pros: The story winds around in interesting ways and the cutscenes blend perfectly between in-game and fmv. The combat system is superb letting you use any weapon you find or sneak up and kill with your hands, and control and timing are spot on so you never find yourself dying because of bad controls -just operator error... The graphics are spectacular even three years on. The voice acting is only bested by Uncharted 2. The platforming and puzzling are top notch.

Cons: The graphics, as good as they are, are a little too shiny and water is a little unnatural -although really good compared to most other games. Occasionally drake dies standing up and the enemies just walk by like they are on a coffee break. The camera angles are excellent throughout except for maybe half a dozen times when I was forced to stop, turn the camera only to find that it didn't go the way I wanted because of terrain or something. Mostly great though. The story takes a really stupid turn towards Nazis (who else!?) near the end and the zombies are a bit of silliness the game didn't need, but those are minor quibbles. One has to wonder how with a pack of Spaniards back in the 1600s and then Nazis in the 1930s how on earth all of the clues and artifacts are just sitting around on tables and whatnot, forget about the mess we all know zombies can make... ;)

Other Thoughts: The story is compelling and fun even though it's obviously a load of crud. (can I say that word?) Hey, it's a video game!
I played Uncharted 2 before I picked this game up and while you can tell it is an earlier build, the overall impact is awesome. Naughty Dog obviously had a growing mastery of the six-cores in the PS3 even during this game's creation. Textures take just a little longer to load (not slowing gameplay at all, but regeneration in new scenes) so you see a guy, then his shirt has more shape, then the stains show up, then the threads and buttons. It's actually pretty cool to watch, and they completely fixed every graphical glitch in Uncharted 2, and improved on this series in every way.

5 out of 5 eggsUncharted: Drake's Fortune

Pros: Oh man where to start. The graphics are spectacular, the story line is involved but not overwhelming, the game play is smooth and streamlined, and the versatility is unmatched by any other game on PS3 thus far. By far, the best game available for PS3, well except for the second uncharted which is even better... Can't wait for the 3rd on 11/1/11

Cons: There is a large difference between difficulties. It is a pro and a con because if you decide to go from medium to hard, you might be playing the same level for a while.

Other Thoughts: A MUST OWN for all PS3 users.

3 out of 5 eggsI'm not even a gamer...

Pros: As everyone else has said, the graphics are beyond compare. Very life like. Story is great and the characters are very likable and draw you in.

Cons: Like my title says I'm not even a gamer and I finished this on hard in a few days of moderate play time. Being able to carry only two weapons is quite realistic, but, isn't more fun to have many at your disposal? Picking up ammo can be awkward at times and trying to take cover and ending up on the opposite side of it sucks!

Other Thoughts: The way Nates clothes get wet is cool if you think about it. I would have given this game 2 eggs but the graphics are too good!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Game

Pros: Game of the Year for a reason. You will feel immersed as if you were playing a movie, it's an incredible story laid over a great game engine. Controls are fluid and transitions between levels and gameplay-to-video are seamless, you will never feel left out of the action.

Cons: A little short, yet still worth it.

Other Thoughts: The replay value of this game mostly directly relates to your desire to get trophies, however, personally, I've played through this game over half a dozen times, just because I enjoyed it. If you're wondering if you should pick up this game, stress about it no more, this game is still higher caliber than most of the games on the market today.

5 out of 5 eggsEggcellent Game

Pros: This is a great real-time adventure/shoot-out game. The graphics, terrain, story and otherwise are straight off the top-shelf. This is definitely a must-play game for the PS3.

Cons: I have to agree with another reviewer, after beating the game I had no desire and go back to play it again. It's not that the game was bad, but it was like a great movie that you've just recently seen. Perhaps I'll hang on to it for a while and if I forget all the details, I'll pull it back off the shelf again for another go. I will say that there may be some replay value to those who like to get achievements and attempt to rank high in online statistics for popular games.

Other Thoughts: For New Egg's price, go ahead and buy it; however, if your're fairly good at these sorts of games, you'll beat it in under a week . . . so you may wish to rent it.

4 out of 5 eggsDefinately try this game.

Pros: A game with a great story, interesting characters, and fun gameplay. If you own a PS3, love Action/Adventure games or want your first taste of a great game, pick this title up.

Cons: I don't know why, but I didn't want to replay it afterwards... It's odd... The game had a great storyline and everything but... I lost interest in it after beating it.
