2 out of 5 eggsSimilar to Prototype...

Pros: A mostly open world where you are first limited to one of three islands. Later you can access all three islands as they open up.

The game pushes you to either do good and become a hero, or be evil and become infamous, staying neutral merely limits you to being unable to grow as some powers can only be accessible when you grow in rank on either the good or bad side.

Voice acting is pretty good, and the story is okay. Graphical Art is okay as well. There's also FMV (Full Motion Video) but that's pretty much limited to the TV broadcasts done by the news and an anti-hero.

Missions are varied and enemy selection is interesting and gets more diverse as time goes on. There's also various trick shots you can do, and some interesting looking movement abilities later. You're encouraged to use trick shots as they are more often than not worth more experience than just defeating enemies normally.

Most missions give decent experience for completing them.

Cons: The game lacks severely in it's platforming. In prototype you could scale large buildings fairly easily and quickly, here however you are forced into tedious latching onto windows, ledges, pipes, protrusions. This is greatly increased as you are set to get collectable 'blast shards' which would increase your ability to hold more electricity to power your moves. Worse is every time you jump or willingly let go of a ledge, you immediately grab onto the next or nearest one making going down an utter pain. Platforming is often used to railroad you through an area, like a maze-like shipyard or a small hobo village. This artificially inflates the length of the game in order to beat it rather than adding to it, and in my opinion sucks. True you can skate across power lines, cables and railroad tracks, but only a third of the buildings or so support this, making it tedious if you don't see an easy path from one building to another, and end up taking a few minutes to climb a single building to get to an objective.

Another annoyance is you are limited to only powers and melee attacks. Most enemies carry guns, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, and will happily run away while shooting at you making melee nearly useless. Using ranged attacks is tedious as you have to aim every shot and every enemy takes 4+ hits to take down (or down to 1 if you do a head-shot). Quite often you'll find yourself out-numbered 10 to one or more and you'll die quite often.

The game also occasionally 'upgrades' your difficulty forcing you into hard mode when you didn't ask for it.

Every action gives you a small amount of experience, as low as 1 for restraining or killing enemies, 5 or more for disabling turrets or enemies, and sometimes 25 or more for larger enemies that take too long for the amount you get from it.

Side missions get dull quickly, as you have like 15 to an island. Most of them are repeats which also artificially inflates the length of the game; Especially ones involving surveillance (which is basically shard collection except you're destroying boxes on one building, and you HAVE to go to them as they are shielded).

Although there are movement abilities, you can't upgrade them: You can't run faster, jump higher, skate faster, fly, get from A to B faster, etc.

Every time you 'fail' you return to an earlier checkpoint or get stuck across town where you woke up, making progress annoying. And you WILL die a lot.

Other Thoughts: The annoyances in the game are enough that I've lost interest in trying to beat it, and have shelved the game. True I haven't played the second game or the DLC provided code; It's too annoying that I don't want to anymore and I wish I didn't buy it.

If movement wasn't so annoying, constantly latching onto things I don't want (yet never landing where I want it to when it's near a wire), or the difficulty of everyone shooting at you at once and constantly dying, then perhaps I would have enjoyed the game a lot more.

The game heavily is based on gameplay in that of Prototype, but falls short quite a bit, leaving you with unwanted platforming and inflated length time through the platforming.

I don't recommend the game, but if you can get past it's shortcomings, then by all means get the game. If not, don't get it, it's not for you.
