5 out of 5 eggsStar Ocean review

Pros: Looks beautiful and smooth game play like all its predecessors. The combat system is still awesome, real time actions not turn based.

Cons: Wasnt free ;)

Other Thoughts: If you like final fantasy style games that include crafting and obtaining rare items and such this game is a blast.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat, But Save Locked for PS3

Pros: Nostalgia if you played and loved the first one.

The action combat system is consistently challenging and makes leveling up feel progressive. It allows you to replace grinding with skill, or complete each area to become more powerful before forging ahead.

Enemies and their attacks show good variety, making each new combination of enemies feel unique. The combat system keeps you on your toes and makes you develop strategies for your group in order to remain successful.

The game is fairly long, offering about 40 hours of storyline gameplay. However, if you do everything in the game, that can be pushed to around 100.

This is really a fun, in-depth and hardcore JRPG, not watered down at all for the casual gamer.

The music is beautiful, enthralling and appropriate.

Cons: Worst, most horrible thing I've encountered in a long time which I knocked two stars off for: save files are locked to the PS3 you play them on. I have two PS3s in different rooms and am now stuck playing this in the living room only. If you only have one PS3 and will be playing this solo, it will pose no issue. Think you'll take this to your friends' house? Nope, you'll be starting over from the beginning.

Some cut-scenes are literally twenty plus minutes in length. This is crazy and there's no warning when you get wrapped up in one. If you aren't sitting down to play for hours at a time, this is probably not the game for you.

Save points are few and far between. You can't save whenever you want to. Which means if something comes up and you have to step away from the game? You may have just lost 30-45 minutes of gameplay. Save points are literally about an hour away from each other at times.

Camera control is horrible and frustrating throughout the game.

Other Thoughts: All things considered, this would have probably been a dream game for me to have back in the Playstation era. I'm glad to have it and wish that the few incredibly glaring issues could have been polished over. Even so, I will probably look back fondly on this game once I forget the few grievous flaws which tarnished this otherwise outstanding example of the hardcore JRPG genre.

2 out of 5 eggschildish

Pros: I really dont know.

Cons: This game has no appeal to an adult male. EXTREMELY asian. The girls are googly eyed and unbearably annoying. The combat system is bland. The story line is totally uninspired. I quit after the third or fourth time I was subjected to the super high pitched annoying bubbly female voice overs. I couldnt take it.

Other Thoughts: I really dont know who this game's target audience is but it's not straight adult males. Youve been warned.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very enjoyable game. Plenty of skills to upgrade and a good length RPG

Cons: Takes a while to really get into the game. However taking a while to get into the meat of the game is rather common.

Other Thoughts: I'm really glade I bought this game.

5 out of 5 eggsone of my favorites

Pros: Great story for fans of quirky anime. The story really drove me to press on, just to hear the rest of it. Gameplay is enjoyable, and the weapon synthesis system is a great add for any RPG.

Cons: The battle system is fairly simplistic. It has the potential to be very deep, and if you take the time to learn it ( and chase the trophies ) it can become complex and rewarding. However, it is not necessary to do so in order to beat the game.

Other Thoughts: I beat the main story in around 50 hours. Currently I am finishing up all the side quest and the bonus dungeon, only available once the the primary game has been finished, and I have and additional 5 hours so far. I'm going to guess that it will be an additional 15 - 20 hours when I'm done.

2 out of 5 eggsGood potential, horrendous execution

Pros: Battle is fun. 8 characters to choose from and there is some overlap in their abilities. The crafting system is interesting. AI does not do stupid things.

Cons: Collecting materials for crafting ends up being something of a grind for rare drops, or you just plug through the story-line until you can purchase the mats from a store. Story-line is awful. AWFUL. Too many cut-scenes, and many of them are boring and way too long. Characters are very cliche and most of them are whiny and/or annoying. Occasionally in dungeons it is difficult to find a save-spot -- this is annoying when I've been playing for 45 minutes and someone comes home and suggests a movie, but it takes me another half-hour to find the next save-spot.

Other Thoughts: I've got around 50 hours sunk in to the game and I'm very close to the end. I have to say the worst thing about the game is the cut-scenes. Imagine, you beat a boss and are "treated" to a 5-minute cut-scene. You go back to your ship and head back in to space -- 10-minute cut-scene. You're given the opportunity to talk to some people during your ship's travel -- waste time or skip this step. You arrive at your destination -- 15-minute cut-scene. It's like someone said, "Hey, story is important!" and then they handed the writing off to some goob who didn't have a clue what he was doing and went waaaay overboard. This is compounded by the fact that most of the characters are just annoying. Seriously, I hope for bad things to happen to them instead of cheering them on.

At $16 it's not a bad value. I'll finish the game and check out the post-game. Honestly if not for the cut-scenes and annoying characters, I think this game would be a 4.

4 out of 5 eggsStar Ocean Last Hope International (PS3)

Pros: This game is great I just cant put it down. If you like games like the Final Fantasy series or Phantasy Star Universe series. You will more than likely get hooked to this game like i am. all the game is on one disc unlike the xbox 360 version that has three game discs. this game has fase load times the longest load time i have seen in game is about 2-3 seconds. and they only come up when entering villages or new areas. I would have to say one of the coolest parts of the game for me is being able to customize and make equipment or items from stuff that you collect or buy along the way

Cons: There are a few things that kinda held me back from giving this game 5 eggs like the emotionless faces. The word .....kay..... gets old very quickly thanks to lymle every sentence she says ends with kay?.... The story line is a little weak at times.

Other Thoughts: This game is awesome and holds its own. all and all the pros heavily out way the cons. once you start playing this game its kinda hard to put it down like with any good game.

4 out of 5 eggsBetter than the 360 version...at a few prices to pay.

Pros: Game is absolutely amazing. To fit a game that was on 3 discs onto one Blu-Ray, is simply amazing. The option for anime style pictures is a much welcomed feature, since the original CG faces are a bit stupid sometimes. Especially Lymle's fat face cheeks. (gives me nightmares yo.) They also allowed for control swaps this time, so when you push the right analog stick left or right, it turns the camera in the corrisponding direction, unlike on the 360 version. The main story is quite long, if you piddle around like I did, doing all the quests you could before moving on.

Cons: The graphics have taken a SEVERE blow. I can tell just how much they've been stepped down. But it's to be expected when shoving 3 discs into one, a hit has to be taken somewhere. Not horrible to look at, but noticable to me. Also some of the Cutscenes were removed. Could've done without all the Language and Subtitle options. I didn't buy the game to be a weeaboo and listen to it in Japanese.

Other Thoughts: Was hoping to pilot the Calnus in an Ace Combat style battle on the way to the Missing Procedure. Would've been a very nice feature. Heard there was an extra charecter added in, lies abound. Other than that, great game. Only 4 eggs because of the hit to graphics and no super awesome Calnus Mod. 3 Starfighter sequence.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very fun and challenging battle system.

The game looks incredibly beautiful.

Load times are very quick.

Its better than star ocean 3.

Cons: Story is weak.

Characters are annoying and emotionless. They will drive you crazy and wish you never bought this game at full price like I did. Only thing you can do about them is to turn off their battle sounds and skip a lot of cinematics. A lot of the story really just made me frustrated with how stupid the scriptwriter and the American dubbing ended up as, 'kay?

'kay? Lym will make you want to cut your ears off...... 'kay?

Other Thoughts: Surprised there was nothing else included except for the extra language packs.
