Disapointing
- Pros: The controls you will recognize from Smackdown vs Raw 2008. They kept the control configuration options the same which is good so you don't have to learn something all new. They opened up a whole new dimension to the game by allowing all moves to be used by every character instead of limiting due to weight or other options. Nice to see that I can choose what I really want my character to be capable of, even if I have to break a couple laws of physics to do it.
- Cons: No control on gaining points for your CAWs, limited ability to create finishers it was a good idea but poorly done here. Several moves I wanted to make the game would simply not allow. The lack of control when powering up your CAWs is truly disappointing. While easy to understand you get torn apart and can't advance any farther.
- Other Thoughts: If you want to run a CAW though 'career' mode more than once be ready to kiss your stats goodbye. Be ready also for somewhat of a disappointment in regards to the create a finisher. More freedom is needed. Feels very similar to playing Smackdown vs Raw 2008, and feels very long in the tooth as a result. Great play to start out with, then the truth about the game starts to hit home and it gets old very quickly. Even true WWE fans like myself will find this game rather played out. I'm surprised THQ would release the game like this.
Smackdown vs Raw 2009
- Pros: Better controll configuration than 2008 version. Allows player to choose which champion they want to seek in season mode. A few new match type. Load times are a lot quicker. More than 2 specials for each wrestler. More locations to fight...backstages...outside of buildings..parking lots...locker rooms...$20+ dollars cheaper than PS3/360 version.
- Cons: Control config is limited to two type. Less legends compared to previous smackdown vs raw. Have to play the game in certain way to unlock secrets and unlock wrestlers. Graphics could have been improve, but it's exactly like previous version since 2007. No progressive scan adjustment in this game. Would be better if they allow progressive scan...would sharpen up the graphics a little bit.
- Other Thoughts: This game is a good game to buy if you're into wrestling. Smackdown vs Raw on PS2 is showing it's age, but it's still fun to play with friends. It's not that much of an improvement over other previous version, it's just better than 2008 though. At $40 for this game, some people are still finding it hard to justify if it's worth buying this game. Only reason why the PS2 version have advantage over PS3/360 is the price + PS2 still have games being develop for the system. $65 for a PS3/360 game is too much...in tough times...game play is the same, just improvement on graphics for much more.
