Two girls are key players in the incident...What do they know!?

Multiple reports of kidnapping have shaken Tokyo to its core. Regrettably, these reports are not baseless rumors...

The victims are mainly young people and their numbers have been steadily rising. Variants and members of a mysterious group have been sighted at the scene of the kidnappings. Students from Hinowa Academy—the very school attended by members of the Xth Squad—are in danger.

In pursuit of the truth, closely held secrets will be exposed...

But this is far from the only incident plaguing the city.

There are reports of strange incidents known as Sprawl Terrors, in which buildings and people suddenly vanish into thin air. A powerful enemy with mysterious origins opposes your efforts to investigate this phenomena. Furthermore, there appear to be some familiar faces among your enemies.

As the situation grows more desperate, loyalties will be questioned!

INTRODUCTION

"Everyday is boring."

Who first started saying that?

Hanging out with friends, walking through the school gate, going home along the same road...

Catching news feeds in the corner of our eye, sending kindhearted text messages...

This wonderful world was all we had.

Until...it all disappeared before our very eyes...

Catastrophe Slouches Toward Tokyo

The year is 20XX, and bloodthirsty creatures known as Variants have Tokyo under siege.

These murderous monsters have spread fear and panic all throughout the city. Even the police and military are powerless to stop them.

But there are young men and women who bravely face the Variants where they are most concentrated—a labyrinth known only as the Abyss.

These heroic youths are known simply as the Xth.

They eliminate Variants with such finesse and grace that stories of their exploits are treated like urban legends.

And now, their heroic battle within the Abyss will soon be revealed!

KEYWORDS

Xion

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy

Xth—Xion Transhuman

The government, the Code Physics Agency, and Mifune Corp. have established the Xth to strike back against the increasing Hazard Cases.

This secret task force specializes in exterminating monstrous creatures known as "Variants" that wander the city labyrinth.

Its members consist of teenage students who fight the Variants using their superhuman ability to "Code-Rise."

Most of these students attend Hinowa Academy and keep their Xth activities a secret as they go about their school lives.

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy

Code-Rise

When Xth members undergo the phenomenal process in which they absorb the power of a hero via a Blood Code, their bodies exert a superhuman power.

This power greatly increases the user's physical and magical abilities and can only be performed by Xth students. It also allows them to physically materialize weapons from Item Codes.

Ordinary weapons are ineffective against Variants, which makes the Xth the only effective way of combatting Variants.

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy

Blood Codes

These special codes are absorbed by Xth members. Upon activation, they unleash a superhuman strength into the user's body.

Blood Codes are created from the genome of historical heroes, and the abilities they grant reflect the distinct capabilities of these heroic figures.

During the long process of researching and developing Blood Codes, it's rumored that some Blood Codes were lost or sealed...

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy

CPA/XPD

Code Physics Agency (CPA)

A special agency that is devoted to the study of a new field of physics known as "Code Physics."

One of the agency's objectives is to investigate and solve Hazard Cases. The XPD and the Xth are both affiliated with the CPA.

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy

Xion Police Dept. (XPD)

A special police department that was established for the sole purpose of responding to the Hazard Cases plaguing the Hinowa District.

On the surface, they seem like a routine police force, but in actuality they are affiliated with the CPA and provide the Xth with support during their missions.

Their main duties consist of investigating and responding to Hazard Cases, patrolling the entrances of known Abysses, and providing temporary resistance against Variants until the Xth can arrive.

Hinowa District

Tokyo's Hinowa District

Located in the heart of Tokyo. Prior to the war, it was known as the Chiyoda District.

Hinowa Academy is in the center of the district. It is surrounded by congressional buildings, the police department, and other industries.

The district also contains large business buildings, as well as the largest entertainment district in Japan. The downtown areas of Hinowa District are home to the Tokyo Mid Hills business district, and an electric city known as Yuba City.

Hinowa Academy

A famous university that teac

hes all grades, from elementary school to college. The campus is located in the center of the Hinowa Distric

Hinowa Academy is the only incorporated educational institution that receives funding from both the Japanese government and Mifune Corp.

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy

Tokyo Mid Hills

A business district that is very popular with today's youth, carrying all the latest fashions and trends. At the center of the district is an office building known as Forest Tower.

Students of Hinowa Academy can often be seen hanging out at this location after school before they go home.

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy

Hinowa Big City

An enormous and elaborate amusement facility. Containing a sports stadium, a concert hall, an amusement park, and resort facilities, foreigners come far and wide to experience the Big City's many attractions.

A popular rollercoaster called Lightning Eagle recently opened this past summer. Many couples come here for dates.

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy

Abysses

Abysses

Dimensions that are created through Code Physics, and can often be found in abandoned tunnels, buildings, or other cancelled city projects. They are called "Abysses" because the ordinary laws of physics do not apply in these regions.

Abysses are scattered throughout the Hinowa District and the majority of them contain Variant nests. Subsequently, the CPA has restricted access to these hazardous areas so normal citizens cannot accidently wander into them.

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy

Variants

A general term for the monsters that attack humans in Hazard Cases. The XPD has been largely successful at keeping their existence a secret from the public, but in some parts of the world rumors continue to be spread about them.

There are many different types of variants—humanoid, animal, mechanical, and monstrous. There are reports of humans suddenly turning into Variants as well. Most Variants were former test subjects of a secret organization, and these Variants have often been sighted rampaging alongside their mechanical counterparts.

Variants are unique in that they're impervious to conventional firearms.
