1 out of 5 eggsNot For the Tech Savvy

Pros: Works as described. Easy to setup

Cons: Macro support (Activities) may be good for those who are unable to work their Video Sound system but are lame for anyone who want to be inventive. Range not that good

Other Thoughts: If you are a techy I would pass on this product and look for something else. Very big disappointment.

4 out of 5 eggsMuch impressed

Pros: Works on anything short of Bluetooth devices (and possibly some of those even with an adapter). The setup software has a robust list of devices, but even obscure devices can be controlled using the IR learning feature. Button macros are easy to set up to handle multiple tasks with one click. The Media option lets you load up graphics to assign to favorite channels, ie, instead of having to remember channel numbers, you can just click buttons that have the channel logos on them. IR Blaster setup allows you to hide devices behind cabinet doors - or even in another room if you like - which helps for keeping a wall-mounted TV setup nice and neat looking.
There's also a handy Help feature, which can assist if a macro mis-fires and sets your equipment out of synch -- such as hitting the power button turns the TV Off but puts the receiver On. Help takes you step-by-step through your device list to make sure everything is on & set to the correct input for you.

Cons: A previous reviewer mentioned this, and I have to agree: the charging station is way too fussy about how the remote is docked. The slightest nudge can disconnect it, and it is sometimes difficult to tell if it is charging properly. Battery lasts for days though, so missing a nightly charge is not such a big deal. Largest detractor is the price. I was lucky enough to find a decent refurbished model for a substantial discount - without that I never would have considered purchasing this remote.

Other Thoughts: If I can find another deal, I plan on getting another of these for the in-laws as a gift for them. Well, honestly, it'll be a gift for myself, ifyaknowhutimean.

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible quality

Pros: Is great when works (was able to program CC on CC off function on my DVR to work with one button press). Worked great for my partner who is technology illiterate and could not handle a setup of a modern entertainment system. Charger is a +. Survived past 2 year mark.

Cons: Must be positioned into the charging cradle with an aide of a high-precision measuring instruments, otherwise charging contacts won't align. Tech support is very limited. Hardware drivers are wonky - the remote is not always recognized by the PC or MAC. Stopped working after 2 years of ownership (349USD were paid originally). After the last charge the LCD stopped showing any graphics yet would be backlit. Buttons work but only the hard ones all the time and the soft in the activity selection mode which I now need to operate blindly. Did not respond to the standard and advanced troubleshooting. There is an anecdotal evidence that the problem is widespread (just search google).

Other Thoughts: Waiting on the response from tech support for 4 business days now.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Remote

Pros: This is such a great remote I don't know where to begin. I mean, any universal remote can control all your devices - but they always end up with very odd layouts, or mislabeled buttons because they can't match your original remotes. This one has a near-perfect button layout that applies to most devices out there, and you can put your own labels on the commands that you have to display on screen. No more confusion. And since the IR codes come from an online database, even if you lost one of your remotes chances are that they still have all the commands there.

But the best part about this remote is the RF->IR extender that comes with it. Weather you have your components in a closed cabinet or not, it completely eliminates having to hold and point your remote in weird positions to use them. Or you can use a single cable box for multiple rooms - just have a coax line split from the box's output to all the TVs you want, and use this remote anywhere in the house.

Cons: The way the power is controlled for the devices gets a bit annoying. For normal use its fine - but with my setup I have the cable box's audio hooked up to both the TV and stereo - the TV sound is good enough for watching most shows but the surround makes movies so much nicer. Anyway, I wanted to put power and volume buttons for the stereo on the remote's screen under the "Watch TV", but you can't do that without adding the stereo as a device and having it turn on automatically when you select that activity. No way to stop that from happening.

Also, there's a small problem with devices that have only one "Power Toggle" command (as opposed to separate commands. So if you power something off by selecting the command from the "Devices" menu, it doesn't recognize that you did. So say I turn off the stereo like that while watching TV (after it automatically turned it on), once I switch from that activity it turns the stereo on, thinking that it was turned off instead.

Other Thoughts: If you don't care for the RF ability (with the wireless extender), don't bother getting this remote - go with one of the cheaper logitechs. They all have exactly the same buttons and do the exact same thing. You'll only get plain text on the screen instead of icons, but those icons aren't worth an extra $150+.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Remote Overall

Pros: I find the 890 to be effective replacement for all my remotes. The remote and the software are a powerful combination. I did not find any major difficulties in configuring the remote or the RF extender to my systems. Overall I am very pleased with purchase. I will follow-up with an update after further time with the unit.

Cons: The help feature is effective but not 100% of the time, especially in regards to the AppleTV. The 890 does control the AppleTV just like the original remote but
the off button of the 890 does not function correctly with the AppleTV. I must bring the AppleTV to it’s main menu and then select the OK button to turn off before I select another activity. This is the only method to date that I have found that gives me consistent results with AppleTV

5 out of 5 eggsGreat remote & great company!

Pros: Great remote! It controls everything I have. I love how I can program sequencese in to change the receiver to one channel, the TV to a certain input, etc. I even have a sequence that turns on my DVD player, waits for it to fully come on (it's an HD DVD player that takes forever to startup), turns the TV to the proper input, turns my receiver to DVD, ejects the DVD tray, and sets the light level in the room. How can you beat that? Plus it has made it very easy for my wife to finally be able to watch DVD's or watch the HTPC without my help.

Cons: I wish the screen had a better resolution on it but I guess you can't have everything in such a small package. It really is an amazing unit considering how much it does in such a small package. I feel like the software could be a little more GUI and a little less like the look and feel of a webpage but it's intuitive and usable.

Other Thoughts: The unit I had was a little goofy at first. The #6 button didn't work well and I almost RMA'd it but decided I could live with it then the problem went away. Just over a year later the remote died (and just a few months out of warranty). Logitech was excellent! The technician I spoke with was very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Even though I was a few months out of my warranty they sent me a new remote! Not a refurb, a NEW one. I guess they understand that sometimes a person might be a little upset if their $300 remote control broke just months out of the warranty. I thought I was going to have to have a big arguement ahead of me but that wasn't the case. They really came through.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT remote!!!!!

Pros: wow, Works every where best remote comes with extra IR for your equipment easy to configure, love the docking station, have left it off dock for 24 hours and still maintains charge, as soon as you pick it up it lights up.

Cons: letters small on the side like the PREVIOUS, or MUTE button but once you get used to it it wont be a problem

Other Thoughts: if you are thinking of putting your audio equipment in a closet or a cabinet with closed doors this is the perfect remote for you, I have all my audio equipment in a closet and the IRs pointing at my equipment and it works great. As usual Newegg always comes through with great shipping and great prices.

5 out of 5 eggsTrue Quality Product

Pros: Ease of set up, everything in one box, easy to follow instructions, not too high tech-just write for anyone to set-up/operate. Backlit buttons are easily viewable in dim/dark. Online database is ginormous

Cons: buttons a bit small but got familiar quickly

Other Thoughts: Reading all the other reviews I don't get the negativity. Charge the battery first (overnight). Get all your model numbers. Follow the instructions 1, 2, 3.... set-up took me 30 minutes for 5 components and 4 activities. Online component database had everything from a 15 year old VCR to a new model Denon AV/R. 1 small error in set up choices I made but the help function corrected my error and applied the fix to all activites.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Remote is easy to use, has an impressive array of functions. The IR emitters that come with it are small and emit in nearly all directions, making it easy to set up multiple devices so that you don't actually need line-of-sight with the remote. I was able to put my X Box 360 and PS2 behind the TV, and the AV receiver behind the center speaker, and can control each perfectly even when in another room.

Cons: Doesn't seem to control all aspects of every device, but in some cases this is because not all functions can be controlled without going into a menu of some kind. Per-device controls are not always intuitive, but in fairness, they are sometimes still easier to use than some of the more obtuse device remotes. The wireless extender must be reprogrammed with the remote if you're using it at all anytime a change is made, and it can be a pain to remove it and reconnect it to a computer if said computer isn't within USB cable range of your entertainment center.

Other Thoughts: The wireless range extender is actually an IR emitter itself and can simply be aimed at some devices to control them without connecting any of the secondary emitters. It comes with 4 IR emitters which are actually split wires with 2 emitters on each end. Interestingly, I was able to connect a mono TRS audio cable from one of the jacks on the extender to the "IR In" on my Yamaha A/V receiver, and the receiver takes the signals without flaw through that lead. This can be a GREAT option for devices that have such a port, as you won't have to worry about figuring out where to stick one of those tacky little emitters, and the connection is 100% reliable. It may even be possible to use a Y-adapter to connect multiple devices directly like this. However, there are no guarantees that it'll work with a given device that does have the port, and my Yamaha receiver's IR OUT doesn't work with the emitters either so daisy-chains are out.

1 out of 5 eggsCool product, but the display stops working after 13 months of very light use

Pros: I enjoyed the product for 13 months until the display stopped working. I was able to control everything via RF extender in a separate room DVR, MVIX, Receivers, Dish Network, dvd, and home theater receiver by activity

Cons: The display stopped working after 13 months, and it only comes with 1yr warranty. Logitech knows displays are defective and said "We are sorry, buy will have to pay for repair and shipping or buy a new one"did not want to stand by the product some times it hangs and battery needs to be taken out to maket work again.

Other Thoughts: Buy with an extended warranty, you will need it!
