5 out of 5 eggsWMC Remote Review

Pros: Easy to set up.
Cheap.

Cons: No problems so far.

Other Thoughts: The learning feature isn't a true learning feature where you point the remotes at each other and one "learns" the others commands, instead it's done through WMC, but the end result is the same.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat, if you want it for the remote!

Pros: The remote works great
The price was right

Cons: The I/R dongle didn't work well with my Harmony Touch, so I bought a rosewill model #RHRC-12001 on sale a couple weeks ago because it looked like it came with a different style dongle, and that one works excellent with the Touch, just thought maybe this might help someone out...

5 out of 5 eggsSurprisingly Two Thumbs Up

Pros: At first I wasn't able to get it too work. Repositioned batteries and one clicked in further or the software installation took effect. Works great with windows media center. Just a little tricky to figure this out.

Cons: Tricky, but I think it works.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as Advertised!

Pros: Do not have to point it at the receiver. This is a huge plus because I hate when I have to point a remote directly at the receiver.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: While in MCE, does it all
Comes with IR blaster (pass-through on dongle)

Cons: Does NOT learn IR codes as specified

Other Thoughts: Would have returned it if it wasn't cheap enough to have as a backup/tester. Blaster is nice, but not useful outside of MCE (so far?).

2 out of 5 eggsThis is not a "Programmable" or "Learning" Remote

Pros: Does work for Windows Media Center for those who purchase this remote for that purpose.

Cons: The remote control can not learn other IR signals and is not programmable as the provided information would have the buyer believe. The remote control unit has fixed IR signals. One must have a video capture device or PC TV tuner device installed in order to use this remote for anything other than basic control of Windows Media Center. I purchased this remote with the intention of controlling my other non-computer media devices and future A/V PC hardware upgrades. But since I am unable to use it without a video capture device or PC TV tuner device, it is useless to me.

Other Thoughts: The user might be able to find other third party drivers and software to allow more functionality of the remote control outside of Windows Media Center. That is if you are willing to scour the interweb for such software.

2 out of 5 eggsThis is not a "Learning Remote"

Pros: It does work with Winblows Media Center provided you have a video capture device.

Cons: This is NOT a "Learning Remote" or "Programmable Remote" as the provided information would have you believe. The remote control device itself has fixed IR signals. All the learning and IR signal conversions are done PC side within the software alone. If you want to use this for anything other than a video capture card and do not have a video capture card, you are out of luck unless you wish to look for third party drivers and software to play with. Needless to say, I was disappointed that I am unable to use this device and I did not receive what I was expecting. I will be looking for a remote with a JP1 port for my need to program the remote control unit itself.

1 out of 5 eggsMisleading title

Pros: Works with Windows Media Center

Cons: Is NOT a learning remote. It cannot "learn" codes from other remotes.
It can send codes to cable receiver devices, but that "learning" is a Media Center function.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy if you need a remote that will learn to control the TV or Sound Receiver volumes.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not learn other remotes

Pros: Works with Xbox 360 right out of the box

Cons: I was under the impression this remote would learn the commands of other remotes. My plan was to use this remote to control the volume of my audio system which my computer is connected to. I also thought this would work with my Xbox 360 connected to my audio system.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this remote if you're looking for Media Center remote that can learn other remotes, this one does not do this.
