1 out of 5 eggsBEWARE - THE BAD REVIEWS ARE ALL TRUE

Pros: NONE

Cons: -DOES NOT WORK
-APPEARS SIMPLE - BUT IT DOES NOT WORK
-FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS FOR COMPLEX ACTIONS - LEAD TO TOTAL RESETTING TO TRY AGAIN
-FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE TROUBLE FINDING/ORGANIZING .... THIS REMOTE WILL DRIVE YOU CRAZY TRYING TO GET IT TO WORK.
-THE ACTUAL 'BEEP' TO FIND IS ALMOST INAUDIBLE WITH A FRESH BATTERY.

Other Thoughts: Every time I see this remote (which I got for like $6 on sale and despite the low cost, actually went to the effort to return - on principal. (not through newegg). It simply does not work (and I have dozens of remotes - some good, some bad, some almost useless ... but this is the only one I've ever returned because it does not work).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat remote, easy setup

Pros: Easy to set up for TV and cable box, lightweight, key finder function is pretty neat

Cons: None thus far

Other Thoughts: I read the reviews of this remote and thought "Oh my gosh, what a piece of junk!" But since it came free with a TV purchase, I figured I had nothing to lose. Imagine my surprise when I had it out of the pack and programmed for my TV and digital cable box in under 10 minutes. Neither my TV brand nor the cable box brand were listed in the manual, so I had to do the code search. Each one was found in under 10 pushes of the button. Very easy, works great. The key finder function is pretty cool too. I have three kids who like to play with my keys and put them in obscure places, so this is really handy. The only thing I worry about is what I am going to do when I lose both the remote and my keys! Overall great remote. It's not the most expensive or top of the line, but it's a nice remote that does the job.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works, mostly.

Pros: It works on the two devices I've tried it on, an old Sony CRT TV and an older DVD/VCR player. It works perfectly on the TV.

The FIND IT feature is amazing. I've used it several times to locate the remote when it was not immediately visible. I imagine it would also be useful in reverse if you are liable to lose your keys, but I just leave the finder next to the TV.

Cons: The old-school Samsung DVD/VCR player I have utilizes only the seek buttons, not the skip buttons on the remote even when watching DVDs. Press the seek button once to skip, hold down to seek.

The DVD/VCR player will not power on with the remote, it must be done manually with the power button. It's not so bad, because you have to put the media in, anyway. I think it's just because the device is so old, not necessarily the fault of the remote.

Other Thoughts: For the price, if you just need a remote for an old component in need of one, it works great.

1 out of 5 eggsGot it free wi TV purchase and it was DOA

Pros: Free

Cons: It doesn't work. Nothing lights up when buttons are pressed. One one button seem to light up the LED and it is for the finder. After you hit it once, it doesn't light again until you take batteries out and put back in it. Does not allow code to be entered.

Other Thoughts: I read the reviews before receiving this, but since it was a free add-on for a TV that I bought, I thought that it would be ok. I'm not sure if it is even worth RMAing as I don't want to pay to ship it back to get another.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat a waste of time and money.

Pros: It didn't destroy the planet.

Cons: Who would have thought of black buttons on a black background?? Someone who never used a remote in their life probably. The code listed for my device came up as an invalid code when I tried many times to key it in.

Other Thoughts: I've purchased many things from NewEgg over the years and have usually been highly satisfied but this is by far the worst disappointment. I'd give this dud a -1 egg if it was possible.

1 out of 5 eggsIt's a remote, you expect it to "just work" right?

Pros: It works for about 2 minutes at a time.

Cons: This remote is seriously glitchy. I was using it for an older Magnavox TV. The remote's manual listed half a dozen different codes that might work for Magnavox, so I tried each one in order. None of them worked.

So I assumed that I must have made a typo, and I started over, and still none worked.

Frustrated, I tried each, waiting a minute or so between each code press. I discovered that one worked. It seemed the remote needed a minute to "set itself" between code enters. Too bad the manual didn't warn of that.

The best part is though, after it finally started working, I walked away for 30 minutes and then tried to use it again. It didn't work. No signal registered on the TV. So I entered the code again and (after waiting a minute) it started working again.

Three times now it has "lost" the code that was entered and stopped working.

Don't get this piece of trash.

Other Thoughts: It's marked down from $30 to $7 for a reason. Stay away.

1 out of 5 eggsDoh, doh, doh?!?

Pros: works on TV.

Buttons will take at least 500 pushes without breaking - that's how many times I've hit the code button since I got this thing.

Cons: None of the codes seem to work on the Sat/DVR - makes it kind of useless as a Universal remote. I've tried abou 30 different codes all to no avail. Also, autodevice coded finder didn't work, but I did get to push the buttons about 400 times.

1 out of 5 eggsTHE WORST UNIVERSAL REMOTE I'VE EVER BOUGHT

Pros: ABSOLUTELY NONE

THE LOW, LOW, LOW SALE PRICE THAT THIS PRODUCT IS ONLY A 'CON' IF YOU REALIZE IT MUST BE A TERRIBLE REMOTE IF IT IS CONSTANTLY GOING ON SALE FOR $5 DOLLARS.

OTHERWISE THAT SUPER LOW PRICE IS THE BIGGEST CON BECAUSE THAT TEMPTATION TO TRY IT, IT MUST AT LEAST DO BASIC TV FUNCTIONS.

THAT LOW, LOW PRICE WILL COST YOU MORE IT TIME AND AGGRAVATION TRYING OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO GET IT TO WORK.

IT SEEMS SO SIMPLE, AND IT SEEMS TO BE SET UP CORRECTLY . . . BUT IT NEVER REALLY IS.

AND THE 'FIND A KEY' IS USELESS. IT IS WAY TO SOFT A SOUND AND THE SHORTEST RAGE, YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE LESS THAN 2' FROM THE MISSING DEVICE TO FIND IT BY PRESSING THE BUTTING AND LISTENING.

Cons: THIS DOES NOT WORK AT ALL.

EVEN WORSE ... IT MAKE YOU THINK "Wait, I think I got it, it's working, its working, it wor.......... wait what happened? I had it."

It will drive you crazy.

Other Thoughts: I would have tossed it aside and blew off the five dollars wasted but for the amount of time and frustration involved.

The "GE" name brand means NOTHING with this remote.

The SIMPLE, Straight forward Instructions makes it just easy enough to "TRY IT ONE MORE TIME FROM THE BEGINNING." .... over and over again.

The Sony $9 plain and unattractive learning universal remote had had more than a decade of excellent reviews on every sight I've ever seen it.

If you want an inexpensive functional remote control.
