URC WR7 Universal Infrared Remote Control

Pros: This is by far my favorite universal remote thus far, and I've owned a fair amount.
The 1st and potentially greatest feature is the "Quick Setup" I've set up alot of these over the years; and am aware that it can be difficult for many.That being said if you take your time reading page 1 you should have little or no trouble at all setting up your tv and other common devices.
Moving along, my next favorite feature; Those pesky buttons that just don't function the same as on your other remote...this is no longer an issue as you can point the two remotes at each other and program your WR7's individual buttons as needed, per device/remote.
With a few simple steps.

The Led light feature is spot on, (great while still learning a remote/ and at night ) the light is a vibrant red which turns off after like 20-30'seconds.

Plenty of buttons /options.

Cons: I have large hands and the design of the back side makes using the number pad somewhat cumbersome without readjusting grip.

Other Thoughts: This is more remote than i need, and it has many more features than I have touched on.
Would recommend.

Pros: ease of use, programming, works my olders stuff, my newer stuff, and my media center as well!! love the red backlighting! and its BIG! which means its harder to lose!!!!

Cons: Its big! hard to reach all the buttons without doing the hand shuffle move. but thats a good thing too! as its hard to lose too.!

Pros: Standard code sets worked great with my TV, VCR, and cable box. A code set was even close enough for my MythTV remote (using a Hauppauge PVR). It was easy to set the punch-through for volume, and it was able to learn all the other buttons I needed from other remotes. I now have every button doing exactly what I want it to do.

I like the feel of it and the button placement. I also like AA batteries.

Every time you press a button, the device button (e.g., TV or DVD) blinks, reminding you what mode the remote is. This is a nice touch so that you know instantly if it's in the wrong mode.

Separate power-on and power-off buttons are nice; if only more devices supported them. It's ideal for the macro turn-everything-on feature.

Cons: Learning codes from other remotes is tricky. Do each button separately, as it sometimes takes several tries for it to take.

It's very touchy. When I press a button, it is not unusual for it to send the signal twice. On a related note, the buttons don't have quite as solid of a physical click when I press them as other remotes.

Short of learning every button, I don't see a way to program a device on the wrong mode, such as a VCR on the DVD button.

Other Thoughts: This is not a JP-1 remote (unlike the one it replaced), so you can't figure out exactly what code or codes you want each button to send, set it all up on a spreadsheet, and then program it with a cable from your computer. If URC would add such a port and release specs, even if not officially supporting it, it would make these remotes a lot more popular with the geekier crowd.

Learning a new remote is no fun, and my previous one was discontinued. If I'm not too annoyed with the double-button issue, I may buy a spare or two in a few months.

Pros: I have owned and given away as gifts several of these remotes and I can say that they last, for me, about a year and then some of the buttons start to deteriorate. It takes ever increasing pressure to activate the button until it refuses to work. I know this remote and do not want to relearn another. I see that they are beginning to get more expensive. I guess the "pro" would be that it is still available.

Cons: Some buttons, other than the "favorites" at the bottom, do not accept alternate "learning", as in the channel buttons accepting a "volume" learning command. I have had some buttons, like the mute, accept "volume down" learning but no other button close to it will accept the "volume up". The "favorites" buttons are to low to be quickly or easily accessible.

Other Thoughts: My volume buttons are going quickly and soon it will require more strength than I have for the button to activate. I just keep replacing these after a little more than a year of daily service. I know it and I love it, even after all these years, can anyone say that about most of their relationships?

Pros: Lots of programming modes. I was a bit scared because some reviews said it wouldn't handle Vizio TVs. I have a fairly old one (though I don't think of it that way), a VX32L and I programmed it first using the Code Search method. It worked well enough but I wanted to control the Input function, so I tried the 3 digit code and one worked and now I have that too. I have a JVC DVD reader and it controls that too. I have an old Panasonic VHS and I'll eventually try that. It has codes for my HP MS Media Center but haven't tried it. Its nice that the whole thing lights up.

Cons: The manual is not so great. I haven't had the patience to figure out the Favorites buttons.

Other Thoughts: The remote controls its replacing simply do not work anymore. Some keys work, some don't so this thing is essential.
With HD TV channels like 4-1, standard explicit channel selection just doesn't work, though probably no fault to fhe remote control.

Pros: - Unbelievably Low Price
- Great button shape/size/spacing/layout
- Excellent super-bright red backlight with button to turn on/off in perfect location
- Button assortment perfect for DVR, DVD, TV, and Receiver use
- Uses AA batteries (and only two at that - should still be more power capacity than the common 4xAAA units)
- Programming, whether using the built in codes or learning, is exceedingly simple, better than URC MX500 or URC R50.
- Case has a definite top and bottom instead of being symmetrical, makes it easy to hold properly just by touch
- 'Punch Through' for volume, transport, channel are highly useful and can be assigned from any one device to any other device
- 'Input' button !! Neither of my two previous and far more expensive URC remotes had this button, score! I use it in each device to tell my receiver to switch it's input to that device. I could do this in a macro on the device button itself if wanted, but I like being able to do it manually.

Cons: - Back is a bit too slippery and the thinner top section doesn't help when you're using the buttons on the upper half. Should be curable with a thin stick-on foam applied to the back.
- Built in codes could not control my JVC Blu-Ray player, but learning worked fine.

Other Thoughts: I didn't purchase this from Newegg, only because at the time I wanted to order it wasn't in stock and had no ETA. This is about the best money I've ever spent on a piece of electronics. The ergonomics of this unit simply blow away the much more expensive URC R50, and aside from the slippery case, also beat the venerable MX500, yes! Who would have thunk it from the insanely low price? It even came from the factory with the TV and CD devices set to Sony, exactly as my system needed, sweet! Supposedly you can only learn around 160 commands on this remote, but used along with the built-in codes, that is more than adequate for my seven devices. The programming process could not be simpler. It's much more streamlined than the LCD screen based URC learners. And finally, an almost perfectly designed direction pad! I can't say enough good things about this unit. It may not be super durable, but there's no screen to break, and hey, it's cheap enough that I could buy one every year!

Pros: Inexpensive. Operates my Blue Ray player and Cable box.

Cons: I bought this because my Cable box remote wouldn't control my Olevia HDTV. Neither would this Universal remote.

Other Thoughts: I'm not going to buy another TV just to be able to adjust the volume and change channels with one remote.

Pros: Learns codes by pointing other remotes at it. Only universal remote I have seen that will operate Comcast "digital transport adapter" boxes.

Cons: No problems

Pros: Dropped it a few times and it still working. Illuminated keys are great specially when your watching TV with all the lights off.

Cons: Multi power on only works when turing on all your devices. You need to turn off everything one by one.

Other Thoughts: I have had this remote for over a year. I didnt expect much from it, but boy was I blown away and I only paid $20 for it. I was able to program my TV, Blueray, Reciever and Cable box so easily. All the buttons I needed I was able to reprogram on this remote. I still havent tried it with my Xbox 360. I dont think I need to anyway. But if your looking for an average remote this is it.

*Fairly priced, terrific remote
*Great, easy to follow instruction manual written natively in English - not translated
*Easy programming
*Works flawlessly

Cons: This section should not exist for this product or this company.

Other Thoughts: I had pre-purchase questions about this remote and a $40 Logitech Harmony. Called Logitech first - 25 minutes on hold and I hung up - this was the SALES dept, I can't even imagine calling tech support! Called URC, live person answered on the 2nd ring and switched me to a person who answered IMMEDIATELY, understood and answered my questions - total time: maybe 3 minutes!

I had a problem with the "learning mode" (my fault) so called again for tech support. Same miraculous customer service - amazing! This is the only company that I will even consider for remotes in the future and to recommend to others.

STARTLING GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE - AMAZING!

...and, the remote works flawlessly!
