5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Remote

Pros: Once programmed it functions perfectly each and every time you use it. Combine it with a MRF-260 or MRF-350 receiver and you will have one rock solid remote system for your office or home. This remote is ultra reliable and super easy to work on once you make your way through the software for the 1st time. Don't get me wrong, the software does have a learning curve to it, but it is way smarter than the Harmony software as all options are available to you right off the bat and not hidden in menu's that you can only access when trying to troubleshoot an activity like the Harmony. Plus this remote charges from a wall transformer with a barrel connector unlike the Harmony's stupid cradle system which never works properly. To put it frankly, this remote smokes the Harmony big time and is very similar in functionality as an activity based remote. I can't recommend it enough.

Cons: Like most URC professional remotes, URC will not provide you the software unless you're a certified dealer spending many thousands a year on their product line. Luckily I have a friend that worked for a large A/V company so I was able to obtain the software but it only functions on Windows XP. URC is completely aware of this issue and suggests you either A.)Keep an old laptop with XP on it or B.) Download XP mode for Windows 7. Newegg really shouldn't be selling this remote to the public unless they are providing the software with it or it will put a negative spin on a very excellent remote. URC's device database is dismal so be prepared to bust out your original remotes and learn their signals. This is where Harmony has them beat for sure. You'd think a universal remote company would do a better job on this.

Other Thoughts: There is nothing complicated about this remote that requires a dealer to have to set it up for you. I was able to program this remote in a fraction of the time it took me to program my Logitech Harmony 890 remote. The problem I had with the Harmony was getting the remote to send signals reliably to my equipment with each activity. It seriously took me weeks to get it right only to have my volume buttons wear out on the remote shortly thereafter. This remote is not only constructed about a 1000x better than the Harmony but the programming is significantly easier and the remote itself is far more reliable. You will need an understanding of universal remotes and programming them or you will struggle. All I can say is it's all about timing. Add delays between each signal to give your components time to process the signals they're receiving and all should be well.

1 out of 5 eggsEpic Failure

Pros: Makes for an attractive paper weight.

Cons: Three year old technology.
Website doesn't even list this remote anymore and the "software" required to program the remote is nowhere to be found. Google could not even find the software for me. Manufacturer is closed and no tech support.

Other Thoughts: Called and got an RMA within 30 minutes of opening the box. I am buying Universal Remote first class tickets for a ride on the FailBoat. Steer clear of this piece.
