1 out of 5 eggsTry Another Remote

Pros: The installation of the remote was very simple as no additional drivers need to be setup in order to get the remote to function.

Cons: I purchased two of these to replace the old microsoft ones that we have been using since Windows XP. After a dozen uses or so, one of the two remotes stopped sending a signal to the receiver plugged into the media pc. I would recommend looking at a different remote, or perhaps a different brand, especially since the remote was kind enough to stop working on Christmas Eve as I was testing out a new media pc for my in-laws.

1 out of 5 eggscan you give zero eggs?

Pros: None

Cons: Stopped working a few days outside of the warranty. Like other reviewers, I just needed an IR receiver and remote to control my entire computer, but I was mislead into buying this thing which only works in Windows Media Center. No netflix, no VLC, no Windows Media player... unless you buy special software.

Other Thoughts: It's pretty much worthless and failed after just over a month. What a horrible purchase.

1 out of 5 eggsOnly works intermittently

Pros: Very functional when it works.

Cons: Only worked well for about 2 weeks

Other Thoughts: After about two weeks the device started to develop problems. After running Win7 diagnostics and fixing the one known issue it worked briefly. Within days after that, the device began to intermittently fail and will either work flawlessly or not at all unless the remote is held directly against the receiver. I would have tried a replacement, but the unit is out of stock. Of course, Newegg is great about providing a refund, but will not offer a comparable substitute, so I'm left searching for another device; but why bother spending my money here if they aren't willing to help?

1 out of 5 eggsWhat The???

Pros: Functions with Windows 7

Cons: 1) The power button turns my computer off!!!!!! Why would anyone want that?
2) The Specs made it sound like I could use this remote to turn off my TV, which is why I bought this remote. I do not believe that there is any way to turn off a TV with this remote.

Other Thoughts: It may be possible to turn off a TV with the hardware provided, however the instructions only provided instructions for programming a "set-top box". I have searched the internet to find out if it is possible to use my IR blaster to turn of my TV but have found nothing :-(

1 out of 5 eggsMore disapointed than I expected

Pros: This remote comes with an eHome IR reciever which is all I really needed anyway.

The IR reciever does work and will wake the computer from S3 sleep.

It came with 2 batteries which worked.

Cons: The specs on the New Egg page and the manufacturers web site are misleading. They give the impression that you will be able to controll both the media center and your TV with this remote. That is not true. This remote is not programable, and will only controll the media center pc within the Windows media center application.

Even though this remote states that it comes with a 1 year warranty, tech support at fails to respond to my email posts on their online forum. So asume no waranty.
This remote is undersized for the number of buttons it has. It is difficult to press one button at a time.

The manual that came with this remote was printed on cheap paper and was mostly illegible without a magnifying glass and the ability to interpret broken english. The model number of this remote was not even listed in the models described in the manual.

Some times multiple button presses are required to get the PC to respond.

Other Thoughts: I will not be returning this remote, because I don't want to deal with the loss of cost of shipping and I will be able to use the IR blaster and IR reciever. I did not test the IR blaster yet.

I would not reccomend doing business with Media Gate based on my experience with this product.

NewEgg should review their product description of this remote and remove the following line as I do not belive it is accurate.

"Power your Media Center PC and / or TV with our remote control"

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless!

Pros: Half the buttons work.

Cons: The other half don't.

Other Thoughts: Highly disappointed in this product. It's supposed to be certified for Windows 7 MC and yet it still does not work properly. The buttons I'm referring to mainly are the pause and back buttons. Without those it makes having a remote just about pointless in MC. I've also tried the AVS Gear GP-IR01BK Windows Vista Infrared MCE Black Remote Control and was having the exact same issue, so I RMA'd that for a refund and figured this one would work since it's 7 certified, but I was wrong. Stay away from buying remotes from this company.
