5 out of 5 eggsJust Love It!

Pros: Installed on Ubuntu 9.04, XBMC, HTPC without a problem, LIRC install "just works".

Cons: I would like to buy another receiver, for 2nd PC. But i don't think you can buy them alone :( doh!

Other Thoughts: This remote is RC-6 compatable, When installing it w/ LIRC configure it as a MCEUSB remote.

Note: Once it's working you can program a Universal Remote, to control the PC, i'm using a Harmony remote

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with lirc, seems well-built...

Pros: Feels good in my hand, seems to be pretty sturdy, works well in Linux with lirc

Cons: I wish the volume buttons were a bit closer to the play/pause and navigation buttons. I have to shift the remote down in my hand to turn it up or down. It is contoured to fit in your hand with your thumb at about the "OK" and "play" button area. Not a huge deal.

Other Thoughts: I've only used this in Linux. I couldn't seem to get it working properly under Debian for some reason, even compiling it from source after the package didn't work for me. Probably operator error. It did work out of the box in Ubuntu after installing the lirc packages. Just choose "Windows MCE remote." I used the newer one, not the legacy MCE configuration. I've only used it in VLC, and it works without a hitch. Just make sure to create a .lircrc file in your home directory. You sill need to know the actual commands to properly configure this file. If you open a terminal and type "vlc --help -advanced" you can get a list of all the commands to put in the config lines. For instance, the entry for the play button looks like this:

# Pause playback
begin
prog = vlc
button = PLAY
repeat = 3
config = key-play-pause
end

PS - every button showed up when using irw. All the "Music," "Guide," "Recorded TV" buttons, etc. I have not used it in MythTV, but I hear it works great.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works as listed.

Cons: New Egg messed up the shipping. They usually show what shipping carrier you are going to be receiving the item through on the invoice. However, this time they didn't and I ended up having to drive 20 miles to pick the product up.

Other Thoughts: New Egg gets 0 eggs for poor shipping arrangements. The product gets 4.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with DC50X set-top box and Media Center

Pros: Works great with the Comcast Digital Cable set top box DC50X and Windows Media Center. Easy to use. Well designed. Buttons work well and don't require a lot of pressure to function. So far, I'm really pleased.

Cons: The double stick tape on the back of the IR emitter is a bit weak and the emitter falls off of the set top box occasionally. Can be fixed with more double stick tape though so this is very minor.

Other Thoughts: I ended up buying this after Comcast switched to Digital Cable and suddenly my (Vista)Windows Media Center remote would not work. It turns out that the set top box that Comcast was distributing (Pace DC50X) used something called xmp protocol and I could never get Media Center to change channels via the DC50X. I took a gamble on buying this device hoping it would work. After adjusting my TV setup in Windows Media Center and selecting the remote codes for the Comcast (not Pace) set top box (the first code listed) it immediately worked. Now I am back up and running. I'm assuming that the IR receiver must accept xmp protocol and that's why it works. Regardless, I'm very happy with this purchase!

5 out of 5 eggsGood buy

Pros: works well, have it running on an HTPC, so far so good

Cons: it doesn't work on Windows XP Professional, not that it mattered, since I wanted the media center experience anyways.

Other Thoughts: Running boxee on Hardy, and it works quite well. I had tried XBMC on Vista x64, and that worked ok - couldn't get it to get out of sleep using the remote. Overall, it's a value buy.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Seems to work well with Vista on Laptop.

Cons: na

Other Thoughts: Doesn't work with Win XP anyway that I have been able to figure out. I was hoping to get it working with XP to use it with XBMC.

5 out of 5 eggsWORKS in Windows XP Media Center Edition MCE 2005

Pros: It works in Windows XP Media Center Edition MCE 2005. I took a chance on this. I was checking out with some parts and a 40 buck trackball remote and saw a combo deal to get this for 20, so... I gave it a shot. I don't imagine the IR blaster works with a set top cable box, but it may. I don't need that. It works with every button on it, but power. I may remedy that soon, I've only had it today. You can do standby or shutdown from the MCE menu. You just can't get the computer to wake up remotely. YET :)

Cons: Some mouse functionality would be nice, but children and trackballs don't mix well.

Other Thoughts: This is not made for Windows XP Media Center Edition, but if you want it to work in XP MCE, try this:

plug in IR blaster (just in case it does work)
plug in the USB Reciever
wait for driver window popup......

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great but forget about it learning

Pros: Works with MythTV and Linux out of box. with lirc installed and the remote setup, irw showed the commands clearly.

If you are building your MythTV for the first time, go with this remote and save yourself the trouble of a keyboard.

Has good range and will work with your Xbox360, Vista laptop, etc.

Comes with IR blaster to potentially workaround the one Con.

Cons: -Learning flatout does not work. The manual flat out lies about it.

Having this and I would have given 5 eggs.

You *should* be able to map the power button and the channel/vol/numbers but can't.

Other Thoughts: NOTE: This will also work with Xbox360. I use the controller for that, so I put some electrical tape over it's IR port.
My install process:
Compile/install LIRC. choose a MCE remote during config. Copy the generated lircrc to ~/.mythTV and ~. If you don't have a mappings file, search Google for one.

For Mythbuntu users, just go to the configuration screen and set up a new MCE remote and click Generate mappings. LIRC will get installed if you need to do it.

Once setup in mythTV, close the MythTV frontend and go to ~/.mythtv
Open the lircrc file and modify the VolUp and VolDown repeat to 1(this allows you to hold it down rather than keep pressing it).

Copy one of the entries and paste it at the bottom.
Replace button with: Back
Replace config with: Escape

Of course, this will depend if you have changed any the defaults.
Start the frontend and begin enjoying your new remote!

If your not sure your remote is working, use irw in console. It will show the commands i

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: - Worked fine for me out of the box.
- Looks pretty good.
- Does not feel cheap as noted by a few reviews. It's not a Harmony, but you get what you pay for. I'm not trying to hide it from anyone, that's for sure.

Cons: - If I have to put something (other than "none") it's the cost of shipping. Not a problem with the product itself. This is not that big of a deal if you order multiple items without free shipping (increase in shipping costs is fairly small, evens out the high initial shipping cost)

Other Thoughts: Currently using with the built-in IR receiver on an Antec Fusion Black 430. No setup required at all for me, it just worked.
