2 out of 5 eggsLousy camera image

Pros: fast and quiet pan and tilt. nice web interface. great frame rate with Blue Iris software.

Cons: Lousy image no matter how much I tried to focus it.
Called trendnet and was met with an arrogant and uninterested CSR who did not identify himself. This alone made me return this camera as everything else was great! TOO BAD!!!
NOT recommended!
FYI... Newegg is great and it is NOT their fault!!

Other Thoughts: I called trendnet and asked about the lens because I needed to replace it with a longer lens, and was basically told "too bad!". I submitted a complaint about the CSR and his lousy attitude and lack of willingness to fix my situation.
This camera would be great for everything EXCEPT the bad image quality. I am returning it to Newegg!

4 out of 5 eggsGood Camera for Price

Pros: Good Image quality, night vision. Good mic for sound listening.
PTZ.

Cons: PTZ won't return to "home" automatically after a time limit. Camera stays where you leave it "forever" once you are done viewing it. No jpeg mode (nice for some mobile phones that won't support mpeg4 or mjpeg video or 3gp.) It works great on iphone with Live Cams app. Adding external speakers to "talk" seems to cause camera to drop wireless connection. Disconnected them even though they are AC powered, and connection improved.
Also, poor documentation for setting this up. Easy to have it emailing you hundreds of pictures without your knowledge...took some trial and error for the settings.
Mounting camera: Had to mount camera upside down for wall mount to get the PTZ range I needed to see down and invert the image thru the setup.

Other Thoughts: I have the wireless version of this camera TV-IP422W.
To all those who say their video is fuzzy or blurred, the camera has a focus ring around the lens. You can adjust the focus this way. Don't think it's documented. Had the camera for awhile until I found this out.
Night vision is ok. Range probably about 10 ft. for recognizable image of a person. Considering adding some infrared lights on a timer.
I also own the Panasonic BL-C131a, and it has better image quality, but useless in low light, and no night vision or infrared capability.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Recommended

Pros: Easy to install. Nice UI.

Cons: The Video quality is bad. The picture is washed off and blurry. The picture in their ad looked amazing but that was a contrary to what this cam has. This company should be sued for false advertising. IF a burgler comes into your house, I'm pretty sure the cops wont be able to use the video as evidence because their faces are not recognizable esp if the bad thing happens during day time. This cam has very bad resolution if there's a sunlight.

Other Thoughts: I won't recommend that you buy this overrated product. It's just not worth it. I thought some software updates from trendnet would eventually resolve this issue but i guess it wont. I've been waiting for sometime now. Although i hope they do.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat nightvision camera

Pros: -Nightvision is sensational. Unlike many "low-light" cams, this one actually works in the dark
-The search range is good, and it supports ceiling mount
-The image is big compared to other cameras
-Setup and use (basic functions) is easy
-Works fine with WPA-2, AES. MAC filtering
-Frame rates are reasonable to wireless station

Cons: -Had to return first unit; it was defective; apparently common
-Daylight colors are a little off (black looks purple)
-Daylight focus is blurry (but offset by superior image size)
-Unit has big footprint. However, has good mount kit
-Sound quality isn't great: might improve with ext .microphone
-Power cord pretty much demands extension cord for wall (true for almost all of the mid-price security cameras)

Other Thoughts: Bottom line is that if you're looking for a night-vision camera, this one works very well. You might get a dud, and have to return it. Network connection problems are common complaint with these units. But even so, it's worth the hassle. When these units work, you'll love them - esp the nightvision. Big disclaimer: Other than a very strict security model, I don't use many of the advanced features (FTP, email, etc.)

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Camera - Economical Price

Pros: You can't beat the value of this unit. The nightvision is awesome, even for 10 ft away! I considered lots of cameras for use as a baby monitor for my toddler but decided on this one and we're very satisfied with the quality, reliability, but most of all the capabilities. We've had no problems with any of the functionality. I had no problem setting up the web view once I figured out the port forwarding on my router. We have it setup on the mirror about 6ft up to watch a 12x14 room.

Cons: The audio monitor does not have a db cutoff so it's all or nothing, which means you hear all the background noise. The motion detection is not sensitive enough, even with the threshold turned all the way up. It requires major scene changes to trigger recording. Our kid is pretty small in from across the room, so this could be overcome with placement. There is some confusion because the firmware contains all the functionality but the SecurView software packages with the unit does the same thing except the autorecord is saved differently and simultaneously as the firmware. I would be compete if it had a speaker instead of an audio out jack.

Other Thoughts: The motor is really quiet, but my 18mo old can hear it with no other sounds in the room. It freaks her out when we have to pan around to see her and she runs into her bed, so it's doing more than monitoring for us ;) The quality is adequate as long as you are expecting VGA resolution.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Not much....it looked good, I guess. Newegg.com's customer service was excellent

Cons: It didn't work right out of the box! Newegg sent me another one....that didn't work either!! It would never do a camera calibration or hook up to the network. Worked with Trendnet tech support for 2 hours on second unit, they still couldn't get it working.

Other Thoughts: Stay away from this one!! You will be disappointed in the product, but not in newegg support.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: Same results as others, looses network connectivity after a few minutes. And that is not a value added feature, and it appears a standard one for this model.

Other Thoughts: After verifying the problem is not a cheap power supply fluxuation, and connecting to every kind of switch we have, various Linksys $30 off the shelf unmanaged 5/8/16 port switches, Dell PowerConnect, Cisco Catalyst switches, and even HP ProCurve Gigabit VoIP POE switches, all with the same result F.A.I.L!!

NewEgg, please discontinue this item. But keep their wireless version ip-tv422w, we have these in various locations and they work well (so far)

1 out of 5 eggsGood Luck

Pros: Good size and features for the price (if it works).

Cons: RMA'd the first one because the video did not work at all. The replacement I received (new) would lock-up after being on the network a few minutes; it had to be power cycled to operate again. After discussing the issue with tech support, this camera was sent back to Trendnet for replacement. The replacement camera arrived 2+ weeks later after 2 phone calls to the RMA dept. The replacement was used, missing mounting hardware, had a lot of bad pixels, and still locked up when accessed. I am currently working with Trendnet to get a third replacement for this camera…

Other Thoughts: Impressed with Newegg RMA process.
I have 4 other Trendnet cameras (2 x 110, 1 x 110W, 1 x 410) and they all work fine so this problem may be isolated to the 422 design.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: I have the wireless version and think it's great. The antenna is only good for 30 feet. I installed a better antenna and it works great outside of the house. It's been in -40f temps with raging blizzards and still works great. It has taken a licking and still keeps on ticking.

Cons: It needs a better antenna. I've never gotten the record video to work. I believe it's due to my wireless security setup. WPA2. Digital zoom works, but clearity is lost.

Other Thoughts: This is a great little camera for the price. It can go stealth when you turn the power light off. Only the sound of the motor turning the head is noticable. Family and friends can watch the weather unfold in ND.
I may be buying several more for other family members.
