2 out of 5 eggsCrashes on iOS 7.0

Pros: Local WiFi is great. For the price a good camera.

Cons: Over a cellular network it crashes as soon as it connects to the camera. If I am home and connected to my local WiFi it works great. However the main reason I purchased the camera was to be able to monitor my house while I am away. I have not found an update on iTunes for SecurView MOBILE and a web search finds others with this problem in iOS 6.0 and iOS 7.0.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

I am so sorry that the mobile app is crashing on you. I would suggest you to re-visit the Apple store and download the latest TRENDnetView mobile app which should support either iOS 6.0 or 7.0. If this still doesn’t help please email me directly at with “Newegg TV-IP401WN review” in the subject line and I will contact you immediately to assist. I look forward to your reply soon.

Warmest regards,

4 out of 5 eggsFollow up 2 First Review

Pros: See original post Above

Cons: See original post Above

Other Thoughts: As in respect to the NO SSL issue to the internal software, the reason that was so important to me is because U can use Ispy for free, and then have the camera send out its own alerts to E-mail. Otherwise if you do use Ispy software you will have to pay the Subscription cost to have that feature. If you use have, or plan to use external software that has SSL built in then the not having SSL on the camera is a non issue, just do a little work in planning everything out, before buying

4 out of 5 eggsNot Too bad

Pros: For the price, it does what it is suppose to do. The Embedded Server software is pretty basic, but it has all the setups needed to use without additional software.
The quality of the picture is good in most lightening scenarios, and the color is pretty accurate, depending on the ambient light level, which is understandable.
The range IMO is pretty decent, shooting about 45 - 50' on two of these, going thru 2 walls and still get about a 80 percent signal strength, although of course that router needs to be good also. I am using a Netgear 3500L, with tomato24 Usb, with the signal strength power set to 79 (Recommended)
PTZ works good for what it is, fairly smooth and covers a lot of area. Simply click the Live Feed screen where you want it to go.
I get an average of about 20 Fps on both cameras using the wireless N Setup/
Another plus, for me anyways is that it works with Windows 8, with the exception of the Movement Setup screen
So far Very Happy with the purchase

Cons: 1 Major issue !

First of all I said the Internal Camera Server software was basic, and basic to the point of 1 GLARING issue!! The E-Mail setup DOES NOT SUPPORT SSL Connections! ? WHAT ? YUP
There are NO Leading E-Mail services out there that does not USE SSL, but just out of luck Comcast has a setup for non SSL connections, and they are the only ones I could find after HOURS of searching !!, so I really lucked out already having Comcast ;_)),
If you have a ATT, Yahoo, Charter, Verizon, Google- Gmail, (which I actually wanted to use), Plus about 80 percent other E-mail services, forgot about E-mail off the camera, IT WILL NOT WORK with no SSL. Which to me does not make sense, since most of the other Trendnet cams Does come with built in SSL???
Fixed Lens, So its really not a true PTZ camera. Has a digital zoom only, but I knew that going into the purchase.
:P: although even my 39 dollar webcam has a Real Zoom ;l-)
Does not save current time when power is lost, or update/

Other Thoughts: If you want to send E-mail alerts thru the included software that comes with the camera and have a SSL Provider, that also would be a very big NO GO !!!!, since the software takes the info off the camera !
For me I was VERY happy with ISpy software, so many nice features, including motion Tracking.
Its free software, if you do not want to send Any alerts to E-mail, or sms. If you want those features then you have to spend about 6 bucks a month for a subscription if you buy it at least a year at a time. Otherwise its like 8 bucks a month, with no SMS credits.
That is why it was SO important to me for the camera itself to send the E-mail alerts. Ispy will do EVERYTHING else, and I mean everything!
I highly recommend it. I spent about 3 FULL days trying out at least 6 or 7 different programs, and I really enjoyed ISPY. ;-), plus this camera was on the cam list which is hard to find on other software.
Sure can not beat the price ;-00
