4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: I use these for monitoring my aquatic tanks when I am away from home. For the most part, I have had no issues from these cameras. They have only had to be power cycled once in the past year. The resolution is as expected for 640x480. I do like the night vision and it works well.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Good picture.

Cons: The reset button is not very reliable - may be a defective piece, but could reset the unit once.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Tech Support EVER!

Pros: Cheap ... got it on clearance for $20.00 and it hasn't set my home on fire (yet).

Cons: TECH SUPPORT: Camera had beautiful pic out of box, but even set to record motion ONLY, records 2 frames every 3 seconds. Called tech support to show me where I may have missed something in setting up camera. Their first solution was to update firmware. Ok, that along with the inconvenience of climbing up to unmount the camera and connect to a network cable wasn't too bad. Update the firmware, reset the camera and all is good, right? No Way!!

Now the image is washed out most of the day. I have 12 hours of mostly white images taken at 2 frames every 3 seconds.

No help, multiple calls. Their solution is always reset the camera ... which I am getting tired of doing and in fact refused to do the last time I called. (same tech, same script, of course I should expect a different result)

Other Thoughts: I have actually installed surveillance cameras and DVRs for my employment, but we have not used IP cameras on any of our systems.

I needed a camera to monitor a small portion of my property which has had several attempted break ins. Figured for $20 I'd try an IP camera. This one was just a poor choice on my part. However, it does come with LOUSY TECH SUPPORT.

1 out of 5 eggstrendnet camera

Pros: Very bad quality cameras

Cons: I ordered 2 of these and got what I paid for,,JUNK. It took hours to hook them up and the audio will not work on either one of them. I will never buy anything from trendnet again.

Other Thoughts: These cameras are pieces of junk. No wonder newegg had them for so cheap.

5 out of 5 eggsNice camera

Pros: Very nice picture for it's class. Got it on sale for $30.

Cons: none it does what it's supposed to do.

Other Thoughts: When I first looked at this camera's image, it was almost fogged out. I adjusted the focus ring and it's good now. I've been able to record stills and video with this and the ptz Trendnet camera with linux motion. Nice pictures with time and date stamped on them. I'd like to see a small button to just togggle the ir illuminators off and leave the camera in ir mode for use through a windw with outside ir illumination. I can't seem to block the camera's ir illumination adequately enough to do this. Would be a nice feature.

5 out of 5 eggsNothing special, but it'll do

Pros: Decent picture indoors (controlled lighting) after focusing. One way audio is great for watching and listening to the kids while they're playing and you're computing. Good small room IR illumination. Cheap internal monitoring solution.

Cons: It's a cheap webcam, bad with the good. Trendnet's reputably bad device security - another webcam that won't leave the internal network. I do this out of caution, the new firmwares may be more secure.

Other Thoughts: Cheap webcam. Nothing special. Does it's job - as long as you focus the device.

1 out of 5 eggsAbysmal

Pros: powered-on, easy to access for the first setup, would probably be an OK web-cam.

Cons: - Short power cable ... I mean you will need an extention cord for any setup other than on your desk.
- Abysmal video quality
- Very sensitive to light changes ... really hard to adjust it. You basically have to make a change, save, check, go back to the settings and repeat the whole process.
- The mount adjustment is either very loose or very tight ... nothing in between. You might need second set of hands to get the setting just right.
- Manual focus is not very good ... very loose and very sensitive.
- I was not successful in getting good results out of IR night feature. Quite bad quality.
- Di I mention a short cable yet? >:(

Other Thoughts: Yeah, not worth even the 40$ price tag ... unless you want a mediocre web-cam.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Built-in IR; quick transition from dark to light; manual settings for day/night only; good clarity once focused (for 640x480); decent wifi range.

Cons: Ability to adjust to outside ambient light compared to other models near non-existent. Hours wasted attempting to dial in brightness, contrast & color saturation.

Other Thoughts: If using these in a strictly interior home/office scene, where light conditions are more controlled and dominated by artificial light, these cameras are very nice for the price point. In areas w/ predominant exterior lighting, e.g. four season room or protect porch area, this has to be one of worst cameras I've dealt w/. Trendnet cameras have dominated the majority of installs I've performed and proven to be stalwart units in every climate and condition, from sub-zero to trapped in a box under the sun. But while the IP551 d/n camera has no fewer options vs. some of the older, similar and less expensive models, it was completely useless in areas where natural sunlight provided nearly all illumination during daylight hours. These were to replace 2 older model Trendnet cameras assisted at night by external IR flood lamps. No luck. Relegated to basements and hallways now.

5 out of 5 eggsTV-IP551 video led to arrest of attempted burglary

Pros: House broken into but TRENDnet TV-IP551WI caught the suspect on camera. This led to the arrest of the suspect based on photo evidence (auto and body/face pictures).

Camera is setup indoors looking out the front window. Police were very pleased with the photo quality and low cost of the camera.

Purchased 2 more. Latest hardware shipping is v1.1R (latest available as of July 2014).

Cons: Included software is limited.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend the TRENDnet line of cameras. Video recording is a must for any security system.
