1 out of 5 eggsTrendnet TV IP422wn

Pros: Good price

Cons: Unit overheats and disconnects from my network. Will not re-connect until I turn it off and let it cool off. I have three other units that work well. this one has issues and they are out of stock. Even though I have an extended warranty, I can't get another unit since they are out of stock and have been for awhile. Not good. =-(

Other Thoughts: Don't get and extended warranty on a discontinued item.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello MB,

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the TV-IP422WN. Please update the camera with the latest firmware update found on our website. After the firmware update you will need to perform a factory reset finalize the process. If you continue to have issues please email Adrian@trendnet.com. The camera has a 3 year limited warranty. If it is still within its warranty period we can help you submit a warranty claim. Your extended warranty will not affect eligibility for the manufacturer warranty. Please include your contact information and a link to this review.

Regards,

Adrian

3 out of 5 eggsReally HOT Camera

Pros: This is my fifth Trendnet cam, and I have a generally good opinion about their camera hardware, not their documentation. This one appears to be one of their more expensive units when it was in production. It has very high speed movement when changing positions. The IR is OK for a 4 mm lens and it can be turned off manually. The patrol mode has good control and fast movement between positions (8 max).

Cons: This camera runs very HOT!. While I didn't measure the power, the specs say it dissipates 10 watts, and that seems realistic. The case has very poor ventilation, and after 15 minutes or more of operation, the bottom of the case is uncomfortably warm to the touch, even when I had the bottom elevated from the surroundings. The 4 mm lens can not be changed without major disassembly, which could damage some of the snap joints in the head. The firmware significantly lags the current Trendnet cams, and it can be a major effort to get everything to work with IE11 and the current Java tools. It's probably best to operate most things out of a camera management program rather than a web browser, for both home and mobile use.
This has a fixed metal mounting plate that lacks the flexibility of other cameras of this class.

Other Thoughts: I have already seen a couple hints of a temperature problem. The video showed a double image in the frame, and then it quit working temporarily. The ambient temp in the house was near 80 at the time (AZ in summer), and my other 4 cameras never skipped a beat at these temps. I don't think there is any chance that it will operate at the upper limit of its specification, 113 F. I wouldn't bet much money that it will last as long as the 90 day warranty and I won't make any mods on this one until the warranty is expired.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Newegg service was quick, helpful and able to resolve my problem (i.e., help me return the unsupported item).

Cons: No Support - While the setup instructions are brief and to the point, they are also incorrect. I attempted to contact Trendnet on more that one occasion to receive assistance and apart from the confirmation email that my question had been received, I was provided with no assistance and as a result returned the item.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsNice IP Camera!

Pros: Lots of Features, easy to run the camera without the trendnetviewpro software package. Like the multiple viewing stops you can set. Resolution is okay. Have not tried the emailing feature when it is triggered using the motion software. I consider the IP camera to be pretty useful and "low grade entertainment".

Cons: Had to email Trendnet for help with being able to get the javascript to run on my PC using any of the browsers- you need to move the Java security level to medium.

Other Thoughts: Trendnet has been very good at responding to emails for help when using the email provided within the reviews. My only wish would be that when using the Trendnet view Android software you could have the camera stop at its presets like you would when using the browser interface.
