TV-IP751WIC Wireless Day / Night Cloud Camera

TRENDnet Logo

TRENDnet's Wireless Day/Night Cloud Camera, model TV-IP751WIC, takes the work out of viewing video over the internet. Previously to view video remotely, users needed to perform many complicated and time consuming steps: such as signing up for a third party dynamic IP service and reconfiguring their router. The TRENDnet Cloud service removes all of these complicated steps. Users simply open a web browser and log into the TRENDnet Cloud with their unique password to view and manage this camera. A free App for mobile devices brings live video to smart phones and tablets.

About the TV-IP751WIC

Records crisp video in complete darkness for distances of up to 7.5 meters. Wireless n technology connects the camera to a wireless network and provides unsurpassed wireless coverage and improved streaming video quality. Add this camera to your wireless network at the touch of a button with Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS). The TV-IP751WIC offers 640 x 480 (VGA) video at up to 20 frames per second (fps), one-way audio, motion detection recording, scheduled recordings, email alerts, date and time overlay, and four times digital zoom. A wall/ceiling mounting kit is included and the camera's off white housing blends into most environments.

4 out of 5 eggsInexpensive Camera with Potential Results

Pros: This camera is awesome, simple, inexpensive and easy to use once you get everything down. I will not go technical like some people because some of these items are mention on the overview tap of this page. But if you need a camera to spy on your neighbor because you suspect them of poisoning your dog or something simple like want to watch your newborn while there are sleeping while your in the kitchen cooking or simply watching your favorite soap opera and want to make sure everything looks good and SOUNDS good, this camera is for you. I personally use it to watch my nieces and nephews and I could hear what they are doing while I am in the computer writing this review.

Cons: Although this is a very inexpensive camera I think that the viewing quality could have been better, I personally think that the night vision options seems to be better for me then color because the room that I use this item most of the time has too much light and not enough windows to let natural light come in. The software on the Android APP is hard to find even when you use the bar code it’s a waste of time. Search it instead and you have to type it exactly like this “TRENDnet Cloud” without the quotes. The scan info is more like a manual and YouTube videos which take forever to load. I have a Samsung Galaxy S III and have no problems with the software; I guess if you have an older phone it might not be able to connect but any 4GLTE phones should have no problems with the Cloud software.

Other Thoughts: Once you get the TRENDnet Cloud APP installed on your phone is very simple to use from anywhere in the event that your want to check on the house, I wish the mic portion worked but that is another camera and more money. The SecurView Pro software for your computer is a bit complicated but you do need to configure that to be able to record things. Make sure that when you set it up you first follow the direction on the small sticker with all your information. Make sure to go to Administration button which will get you to a different window which will display the assigned IP Address your router gave to your Camera write it down because you’re going to need it to configure SecurView Pro on your home computer. Also if you change the username and password make sure you write it down because you will need it also. Once you have that info run the CD follow the prompts just make sure that when you get to Camera device properties make sure you hit the Properties button and make sure that under the Access tap you have the IP Address and the username and password you set up at the beginning for it to be able to connect and record. Also on this same window make sure you go to audio and set it to Internal Audio Source by default is at No Audio Source and you need that to record sound. If you are planning on recording you’re going to need more space I will recommend getting another hard drive where all the video and audio will be store and you could configure that under Data recording click on Global Recording Properties and choose the hard drive you want to have all the information saved in. Another thing you need to do which a lot of people don’t mention here is that in some routers you might need to open your NAT to be able to stream a little better specially in wireless mode. I had a little bit more connectivity issues with it but after opening the NAT and updating my routers firmware everything connects fine although I prefer the Ethernet connection as a better option. I did have this camera connected to switch which also worked great.

3 out of 5 eggsPowerful software with an average camera

Pros: The biggest pro with this TRENDnet camera is the software suite that is included, SecurView Pro. It's capable of monitoring/managing 32 cameras concurrently. There are more settings and configurations that can be tweaked than I could go through in several hours of playing. It's really an all in one security suite for entry level to advanced users.

Here are some other Pros that I've found with this IP camera:
• Using the setup wizard gets the camera up and running quickly on wired or wireless network.
• FREE cloud based monitoring and administration using a provided web address.
• Night vision mode is decently clear and surprisingly bright.
• Can upload to FTP if you can figure out how to host one, but it requires an always on PC and network connection.
• Can run on a time schedule or motion detection, or manual mode.
• Can send still shots via email, and apparently SMS but I haven't played with that yet.
• Works with several droid and IOS apps or with TRENDnet apps (free). I like Net Eye Cam or IP Cam Viewer because they are easy to configure, very lightweight, and are also free.
• Despite low end resolution, the picture is pretty clear (after you've adjusted the focus).
• Camera automatically adjusts to different surroundings and brightness.
• Front LED can be disabled for stealth mode, however the IR emitters are pretty visible at night and could be a dead giveaway if you want the camera hidden.

Cons: Unfortunately, as the title states, I believe the software is the biggest plus with this package. The camera itself just doesn't bring much to the table. Here's why:

• Low viewing angle is bad for indoors. It might work for a hallway or doorway, but not monitoring an entire room even when placed in the corner. This is an indoor camera, it should have an indoor viewing angle!
• Audio has a lot of white noise. I couldn't tweak the input much at all from the software settings, so I just disabled audio altogether.
• Zoom feature is all digital, so the image looks like Mario World (huge pixels) beyond 2x zoom. Almost nothing is identifyable at 4x.
• Focus is manually adjusted, and hard to fine tune between day and night mode. Day looks sharp, then night looks soft, and vis versa after adjusting.
• No PoE (power over ethernet) even after providing buyers with a pretty short A/C power cord. Really?
• No remote PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) features. Everything is manually adjusted with exception to turning off the LED light and toggling night vision mode.
• Same active-x problems as previous reviews noted when using the cloud interface. Java works fine, but warns of security vulnerabilities constantly.

Other Thoughts: TRENDnet should definitely be one of your options when shopping around for wireless IP security cameras. The software package is great, but this camera is your basic entry level piece of gear. If I were going to add another camera to my DIY home security setup I would want a higher resolution camera; 720p would be perfect. I would want a larger viewing angle to capture the most of a living space as possible. Lastly, I would want an autofocus feature to avoid fiddling with the picture quality everytime the camera switches from night to day modes. These requirements don't rule out TRENDnet cameras altogether, so they will definitely be included in my Newegg search filter =)

1 out of 5 eggsnot good

Pros: easy to set up

Cons: fails after a few days; the apps on the android phone and IPhone works sometimes; seams to work ok the an android tablet ok; app not available to the Ipad; stopped recording after a few days with still plenty of room on the hard drive; emailed support and they told me to check their video on their web sight which told me nothing; their videos are useless for troubleshooting; filled out a second help ticket and heard nothing else from them for three weeks now. their software for the PC crashes too.

Other Thoughts: you get what you pay for I guess.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent camera for the price... not for everyone though.

Pros: Powering up and setting up:

Setup couldn’t be easier. Plug the camera in, run the installer from the provided disk and you’re off and running. I didn’t go the WPS setup route, I choose to manually install with a wireless connection. Immediately following that choice, you have to plug the camera into either your router / switch so the camera can be programmed. Not a huge deal... the camera was still just sitting on my desk. Following the install wizard’s instructions... it programs the camera to your wireless network... then you disconnect it from your router / switch... then we’re ready to roll!

After setting up an FTP share on my NAS, plug in the settings through the camera web UI and set it to upload upon motion detection and AWAY WE GO! Pretty cool! (Although I wouldn’t expect everyone to A.) Have a NAS... B.) Know how to setup an FTP share... and then C.) feed those settings into the web UI of this camera to get it to upload on motion detection. Some-what of an advanced maneuver for the average user, but nice that it works for those in the know.

OTHER:

The TrendNet camera viewer app works well on my Droid X... let’s you view the video feed from the camera from wherever you are. Works on wifi or cell service. Also looks even better on my Nexus 7 tablet... nice to find a camera viewer app that works for tablets as well.

Motion detection is working like a charm. Set your hot zones and you are good to go.

Cons: First impressions (before powering up and setting up):

The AC power adapter is extremely short for a security camera... I was hoping to mount this somewhere in the corner of my entryway towards the ceiling, but this AC adapter is NOT going to make it that far from the power outlet. Maybe I could buy a longer one?

Can’t help but notice that nowhere in any of the documentation does it say anything about PoE... which is a bummer, because I could have used a power-injector over ethernet to fix the short length of the AC power adapter.

You don’t get PoE capability until you cross the $100 price mark and go for a “TRENDnet TV-IP572PI 1280 x 800 MAX Resolution RJ45 Megapixel PoE Day / Night Internet Camera”. If you wouldn’t be utilizing PoE anyway... you can save yourself a about $50 give or take and stay with the TV-IP751WIC.

Use:

I did receive an alert the first time I tried to access the camera from it’s web interface that there was a firmware update available. Alright... I’ll bite. Downloaded the firmware update and followed the instructions: Open the web interface, go to administration, tools, then firmware upgrade and a few minutes later it was done. In the firmware update instructions it says that after the camera reboots to do a “factory reset”... then the firmware update is complete. BUT I JUST SET IT UP! And then at the very end of the instructions it gives the steps on how to back-up your config BEFORE you do the firmware update and then how to restore your config AFTER the firmware update. Luckily, I hadn’t done much configuring yet AND setup is pretty darn easy... might as well step through it again, this time no more firmware updates and factory resets. Just seems kind of backwards to me to get the camera setup, attempt the firmware update, THEN tell the folks in the update instructions that they could have backed up their config BEFORE the firmware update.

The audio quality is just awful. Not like I was planning on using it anyways... but it sounds like a helicopter is flying around my entryway (there aren’t any fans or anything making noise at all). Kind of a bummer; would be a nice feature, had it worked and not sounded like a helicopter.

My first night with the camera setup covering the entryway in our house was disapointing. The camera is supposed to cover 7.5 meters (24 feet) in full darkness... but I did not get those results at all. My camera is setup on one side of my entryway covering our back sliding glass door and in complete darkness WITH night mode on (auto), I couldn’t see a darn thing. Going to try a few different setups to see if I can get video of my entry in complete darkness... but it doesn’t look good from the start. Measured our entryway and it’s less than 19 ft., so this camera should be doing its thing in the dark.

Other Thoughts: AFTER SOME TWEEKING (camera focus, placement / alignment), the night vision actually works well. I have the day / night set on a schedule which seems to work well.

I’ve always had to use the View Video (JAVA)... doesn’t matter what browser I use, never been able to get a video feed with the View Video (ACTIVE-X). Weird.

Packaging and Un-boxing:
Included in the packaging are the following:

1 - TRENDnet TV-IP751WIC 640 x 480 MAX Resolution RJ45 Wireless Day / Night Cloud Camera
1 - ethernet cable
1 - AC power adapter
1 - mounting bracket / hardware
1 - installation cd
1 - manuals / literature

Like I've said above... a decent camera for the price, but it's def. not for everyone. I wouldn't expect my sister or mother or father to be able to set this up properly (I'd be taking that phone call). A little previous setup and use of cameras / networking is required to get the full potential out of a camera such as this one.

3 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Easy setup initially - read more in other thoughts
Better image quality than expected for 480
More options than expected
E-mail function is sweet
QR scanner code to get app after setup
Low latency when viewing on smartphone via 4G or WiFi ~2 seconds
Firmware update completed in estimated time frame of 140 seconds.
Android app downloaded/installed quickly, and it is easy to use.
Good for use in a small area

Cons: I don't want to say the resolution is a con, because it is blatantly listed as 640x480. However, with this camera's feature set, it should have a better resolution.

Firmware update suggested immediately, which is HIGHLY SUGGESTED to be done over a wired connection. I found this out after I had already setup the camera over WPS. Doing the firmware update caused issues with WiFi connection. Read more in other thoughts.

The quick setup guide was humorous, with literally 2 steps and no words. Just a picture showing a disc going into a laptop drive, and then a pic of a mouse pointer clicking on “Install Camera”. Somewhere within the setup/install wizard it should have listed how to focus the camera.

ActiveX video does not appear to be functioning through Chrome.

Java works, but every time I select it I get a Java security warning stating: Java has discovered application components hat could indicate a security concern. Contact the application vendor to ensure that it has not been tampered with.

First time viewing video with audio enabled I got a very low repetitive crunchy bass note. My Logitech Z623 subwoofer was shaking my condo! My fiancée came running out of our bedroom to see what was going on LoL. I am keeping audio off for the time being.

Once you have entered the info to login on your phone it doesn’t prompt for login credentials, it immediately brings you to the camera feed. Using my task manager to kill the TRENDnet app, and even rebooting my phone doesn’t require login credentials. I can't find an option to change this.

Other Thoughts: Some settings that I changed immediately when first going through the configuration after logging into the cam:
• Camera name – Spaces not allowed, must use underscore
• Frame Rate – locked at 20
• Anti-flicker enabled
• Date/Time synced with PC

Camera ID for the app is the number within the URL to connect to the camera. For example: HTTP://12345678.cam.trendnetcloud.com the 12345678 is the camera ID.

The camera defaults to Auto detect day/night mode. My first 45 minutes of tinkering it has been in night mode. I’m not sure why as my desk cubby, living, and dining areas are well lit at the moment.

The camera makes a fairly loud *click* when switching between day/night mode.

****NOTE: SETUP WIZARD AND INSTALL WIZARD ARE 2 DIFFERENT THINGS****

Setup wizard is a separate program that needs to be installed. Install wizard comes up by using the autorun.exe on the CD.

I quickly/easily setup through WPS, and then used a LAN cable, as suggested, to do the firmware update. After the firmware I performed the factory reset as instructed. After disconnecting the LAN cable, I could not get reconnect via WiFi.

Disconnecting power or using the reset button(you will need a paperclip) on the side of the camera fixed it. So, I restarted the setup wizard and followed instructions for a wired connection. Completed the wired connection, disconnected the LAN cable, and then did WPS. It appeared to connect since I got the red LED blinking, but by time I typed the IP Address into my web browser the red LED stopped blinking. I disconnected power, and launched the Install Wizard again to follow the instructions for the WPS setup again. I got a red blinking LED, hit next on the install wizard for it to tell me the camera wasn’t connected and to go back. Went back one page, did WPS again and now I can’t even get the red LED. All I have is a fast(er than searching for WiFi) green blink from the WPS button.
Power cycled the cam, used the reset button 3 times consecutively(just to be sure), and rebooted my PC. Got a red blinking LED, but the WPS button is still flashing fast(er than searching for WiFi) and then the red LED stops. Install wizard told me to go back a step again, so I hit WPS on my router and again on the cam. This slows the WPS blink down to the searching for WiFi blink, but now I’m not getting a red LED, and the WPS has stayed blinking at the same rate.

Time to power cycle modem/router...and with that we have SUCCESS!

Need to tinker with it some more.

4 out of 5 eggsQuick & Easy Setup

Pros: A decent small Wi-Fi cam. Very simple to set up if you have a WPS capable router/modem, one touch of the WPS button on the camera and it’s connected! With the cloud connectivity, it makes it even simpler for you to connect….even if you’re lazy! It comes with an internet address that is specific to your camera if you turn the cloud feature on within the settings of the camera. This way, all you do is type in the supplied IP address with the specified number and you are viewing the camera!

This device also has a hard-wire Ethernet port if you prefer to have it hard-wired to your network. If you know the assigned IP address on your network, just type it into your browser to access the settings within the camera. Even though its only 640x480, its quality is good enough for those situations where you’d like to set up a camera quickly or for monitoring a room, your basement, a hallway, etc. 640x480 looks fine on a smart phone or a tablet either in the browser or with the specifics apps. Of course, if you’re running a monitor with high resolution, the picture will look smaller.

Not only will the device work with the Trendnet Cloud View App, I found it also works with Secure View Pro App. Both of these can be found on Google Play and are free. Again, they are easy to set up and will allow you to view the camera through your mobile device or tablet and works on both your network at home or while you are away…..as long as you know your home IP address!

Cons: As mentioned in previous reviews, the point at which it mounts to the base is secured with a wing-nut. There is a supplied washer in the hardware bag, but it does not seem to help this minor issue. I would suggest adding a second washer, or finding one that is just slightly thicker, as this will take the play out and allow the wing-nut to tighten down and hold the mount to the camera tight. Also, the supplied program can be a little difficult to set up. It does work, but I had to uninstall and re-install it to get it to work properly.

Other Thoughts: This cannot be used outdoors and, of course, must be located close to an electrical outlet so that its power supply can be plugged in. The cord on the power supply is just over 4 ft long. Email alerts and FTP all work fine if you know how to set that up. You can also set it up to use your cell phones text address so that it can just text alerts directly to you if needed which is nice. There are a lot of nice features if you are into really tweaking it out.

3 out of 5 eggsHalf 'n Half

Pros: It is a well made design and and is built sturdy. Mounting brackets and all the screws needed to mount it on the wall. It is adjustable in any direction and angles possible.

Supports wireless N and is backward compatible to b/g, however streaming videos on b or g networks is very slow. 100M fast Ethernet is also an option if you can run cables to it.

Also has microphone which can be turned on or off through the software or the web interface.
The main feature of this camera is the free cloud service that comes with it. I believe the higher price for this camera is also because of the cloud service, but, i have mixed feelings for the way cloud service works. See cons.

The picture quality and audio quality is very good. Even though the resolution is only 640x480 the video is very very clear.

The 4 infrared LED's for night vision work very well. I can recognize people about 20-25 ft away from the camera pretty well during night outdoors. Night-vision indoors is even more awesome.
Motion detection can be done within the camera or by the software. If you have many cameras and/or the server computer is little bit slow, you can offload the motion detection work to the camera it will reduce the stress on the server. I had to crank the motion sensitivity way up in order to make the motion detection work.

Through the login page of the camera you can not only view the live video feed, you can also set it up to send images to a FTP server or send you emails at regular intervals. You can also add users other than admins who can view the live feed but not control the features of the camera. For the network usage there are lots of features like static IPs, DHCP, PPPoE, Dynamic DNS and port forwarding. There is also an option to disable the cloud link and setup DDNS in order to view the feed away from the home.

I do like the 3 years warranty.

Cons: I don't know where to start. First of all installation was a little skewed. They don't supply the default login with the camera and I had to google for that information (default logon is admin:admin). I think they want us to use WPS, which any tech savvy or near tech savvy person would never use.

The camera doesn't have a default ip, by default it is configured to listen for a DHCP server. I had connect it to the router and logon into it to find out what IP it was using. But after that using that ip to log on to the camera made it much easier to look into the various features of the camera.

Trendnet secureview pro is a good software and has many features like motion detection, selection of areas exclude from motion etc, but navigating through the archives for recorded footage is pain. Secureview doesn't let direct control for the camera like night vision toggle, LED control. You have to logon to the camera from the browser in order to access those features.

While using indoors I ran into problem of the night vision switching on and of quite frequently under low light condition so I had to force it to stay on NV.

The LED's in front of the cameras are attention grabbers, especially when outdoors, but they can be turned off through the camera's page.

The cloud link makes it easy for to view the camera when away from home but it lacks any kind of control to the camera. To use the cloud link you have to install a plugin which is a .msi package that takes out Linux users completely not being able to utilize the feature. Why use a .msi package rather than browser based .xpi plugin installers?

Also secureview is not supported on linux. Zoneminder is not being able to logon to the camera and there are no other viable options to record the camera feed on linux, I am not being able to use my linux based home server as a DVR.

Other Thoughts: After using this camera for about a couple weeks I have come to conclusion that this camera indeed fits the need for average people but for me there are some quirks. It not only fits the bill, but excels in many ways. It has tonnes of features and tweak options. Video quality is very good but I would have appreciated if it was of higher resolution. Night vision is also excellent, motion capture works but for night use the sensitivity has to be cranked high.

The cloud thing is awesome on one hand but limited on other. Say if I forgot to switch it to automatic mode and kept it on day mode and left my home for a few days, there is no way for me to turn the night vision on from the cloud. I am also an avid supporter of linux and the cloud doesn't even work with linux, not only that the linux support for this camera is almost non existent. This is a major setback for me and possibly many others who already have linux based home servers and want a surveillance system for their home. It is a shame that the camera itself is running on a linux platform but lacks support for linux based end users.

4 out of 5 eggsTRENDnet TV-IP751WIC

Pros: This Wi-Fi camera works really good I set it up within 15 minutes, has ok quality video and audio the android app works ok, I can log in and see what's going on at my house anytime. It also can feed to a server to save the video feed. The video stream over internet has a slight delay but only about 2 seconds. Camera supports motion detection IR night vision the night vision switches to black and white.
This camera has manual focus and night vision very surprised how well this item works in low light. Software Is easy to use for advanced users but can be a bit daunting for basic users.

Cons: The mounting bracket adjustment is kind of cheaply made

power cord could also be a little longer. Higher quality

video would be nice.

Other Thoughts: This is a great start for trend net getting into this market of

Wi-Fi cameras but they need to refine a little bit but is a

great start keep up the good work.

2 out of 5 eggscamera

Pros: Not a very good picture at 640 X 480 maximum resolution, but much higher quality picture than I expected. This is not a professional security camera and does not have an HD picture.

Night mode works well, but the range is pretty short and colors wash out as should be expected with any 0 lux camera.

Firmware upgrade is easy. The directions say to plug it into an ethernet cable to do the upgrade, but I was in the process of doing the upgrade when I read that and it worked fine. It took a lot longer than it should doing it wireless versus over Ethernet cable, other than that no issues.

LED power and action indicator lights can be turned off, or left on for a nightlight.

Once I got around the installation glitches, I could watch live streaming using the camera wirelessly on my home network with no problem. But for the average user, this product’s software will be very user-unfriendly.

Packaged very well.

Cons: Software installation is red-flagged by Windows.

Trendnet app will not install onto my Android phone, even though it has the required Android version. I get an “incompatible with this phone” error.

The most useful advertised feature of this camera, the remote access, is limited to older computers and I can’t use it on my phone which is the only remote use I wanted. So if you only want to use it in the home as a baby monitor it should work fine. That is, if you want to be able to determine if your baby is still in the crib this camera will show you that. But if you need to determine if your baby is still breathing this camera is not sharp enough for that unless your baby snores really loudly.

The metal bracket has very sharp edges. This could really slice a hand open. It is very cheap to de-burr metal parts but that expense was spared on this bracket leaving me with an overall impression of low quality for this product. And this is odd considering how extremely well packaged it is.

Other Thoughts: Camera makes a distinct clicking noise when switching between day & night mode. If your application requires absolute silence this may be an issue, but in my case it is no problem.

Overall the camera seems like a good unit, but the software leaves a lot to be desired. If Android support is beefed up I would recommend this product. But like it is, I do not recommend.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear TRENdnet Customer,

However, we would like to understand better about red-flagged software installation and suggest to un-install and re-install newly posted TRENDnet Cloudview to see if it helps or not. 4 out of 5 eggsGreat indoor camera

Pros: The best thing about this camera is how easy it is to set up and use. The device comes with everything you need to connect it to your existing network and mount it to a wall or other surface.

The included cloud storage account gives you a place to save the captured video/images. You can also send the captures to any FTP or SMTP (email) server.

The WPS button is a nice touch, because it allows you to connect it your router or access point just by pressing both buttons within 30 seconds.

Motion detection is works well, and you can turn it on or off for specific quadrants of the image.

You can set up users and access control for advanced situations.

There is a CD for novice users and as well as a web interface. The software on the CD could be helpful for some, but it is not required.

The camera uses very little bandwidth and storage.

The IR light source is very bright and should have no trouble illuminating any room.

Cons: You have to spin the lens a lot to focus it.

The IR light from the camera will bounce off of glass or window screens making it less useful if pointed out a window. ( You can disable the IR )

Setting up the cloud link is not obvious if you don't read the manual. You have to create the account and add the camera to your account instead of adding the account to your camera's settings. It would be nice if this could be accomplished from either direction.

The live stream requires activeX controls or java. It would be nice to have html5 support or support for mobile browsers.

Other Thoughts: The 640x480 doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. You can adjust the amount of jpeg compression as well.

You can still see a still if you are on a browser without java.

Overall this camera is a good experience and it has lots of features for tweaking.
