2 out of 5 eggsEhh...

Pros: I purchased this camera so that I could use it for viewing my reef tank when I was away from home. At first it seemed like a decent camera, but it started continuously losing connection to the wireless and/or cloud service. I have to power cycle this camera quite often. The PTZ feature is really nice, when it works. My plan was to put this into a clear cylinder and insert it into my reef tank. Then I could PTZ the inside of the tank while I was away from home. Right now, it's just mounted to the side of the tank, using a suction cup GPS mount.

Anyway, when it work's, I really like it. When it doesn't, it's quite frustrating. It seems to NOT work more than it does work.

Cons: Has to be power cycled quite often.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well - very satisfied

Pros: It does what I want - emailss 6 quick photos when someone walks into the field that I defined on the set up screen. The quality is good enough to be able to identify someone. Definitely worth the money. I have it sitting inside, facing the front door about 60 feet away. Plenty of time to take the photos and get them off to email.

Cons: It can be rather difficult if you don't understand or know how your wireless router works.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Fine

Pros: -Simple to setup, takes about 30+minute to get it working
-Advanced settings for enabling automatic recording and quality of video and various parameters of video settings
-App for the iphone works well for viewing camera in real time, camera direction can be adjusted in real time using the app
-High speed internet required, better PQ requires higher bandwidth
-App can only be used to take video screen shots to iphone
-SD available in the back of the camera for recording
-Seems to work well, I use this when I am out of town. It can detect movement and record/alert.

Cons: -Default light sensitivity settings will need to be adjusted, when in daylight the camera turns night vision on and the picture is black and white
-Setup can take a while and needs an Ethernet connection to router when first installing
-Remote recording not possible unless you pay for app
-Wifi connection not great

Other Thoughts: The device itself seems to work fine for the purpose of viewing in real time and recording using SD. It is white so it can be easily seen in a room. The camera settings will have to be adjusted from default. I noticed during the day the camera thought it was night and enabled night vision. If you're out of the house and wanna watch the dog or something, this would work fine!

3 out of 5 eggsGreat if hardwired and you don't care about the software

Pros: This camera has very good reslotion and picture quality. The nigh vision is better than expected as well with good visibility and range. Sound quality is also better than expected with better than average clarity and range. When working correctly, can be controlled easily by another PC/laptop or through the free app which you can then control with a tablet or smartphone. The camera has nearly a full 360 degree rotation to cover a lot of real estate. You can connect your own SD card and save filed locally or, you can save/sync to the cloud or your own network storage solution (if setup). You can be easily expanded with support for multiple cameras for whole-home coverage controlled by one software solution. The software has some very cool features but, they don't always work unfortunately.

Cons: This was far from easy to setup and connect with my network and is NOT something I would recommend for a novice. While is WPS capability, it would not sync with my Nighthawk router no matter what I tried. When connected directly to the router, it worked fine, but it would not auto-sync wirelessly via WPS or the software auto setup. In order for me to get this working wirelessly, I had to manually set everything which is something most people probably aren't comfortable with or willing to do.
Another nagging issue is that whenever the power is cut to the camera, the default camera position would end up pointing straight into the ground. The software allows you to change the default position, but it wouldn't keep the setting.
The motor is relatvely loud, so if someone is planning to use this as a baby monitor or other place you would want quiet operation, just know that if you move the camera, it may wake a little one.
The biggest problem I had was that it wouldn't stay connected to my network (wirelessly). This wasn't a problem with my router/network either. Trying to troubleshoot the issue by searching online, it doesn't seem to be a unique problem. With that, I wouldn't rely on this cameras connection unless hard wired.

Other Thoughts: If you plan on using multiple cameras from TRENDnet and plan to have them all hard wired to your network, then I highly recommend this setup. If you want a reliable wireless cam, I can't recommend this camera in its current state. The software has some nice features but they need to get the software in order with everything working or don't list it as a feature (i.e. the sweep/auto patrol mode doesn't work, app says you can push to talk but this won't work unless you have an external speaker/amp connected to the cam which isn't listed anywhere, the default value/position won't save and more often than not, when you make changes within the software, the program will lockup/freeze and you will have to reboot the software AND the camera to get it back).

3 out of 5 eggsWorked great for a while

Pros: Does work well,or should I say did work well.Really not a bad camera.

Cons: I have 2 of these units and this one ,the wifi just quit. Very frustrating. Tried setting up 2 ,3 times, just no wifi. It will work with Lan cable connected. The other unit I have is working just fine on wifi.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware

Pros: Easy set up. Nice features. Cloudview is a plus.

Cons: Defective tilt mechanism. Not sure if this is just related to my particular device or the whole lot. Does not keep vertical preset positions. When you set a preset and then go back to that preset after moving the camera around, it is vertically off either up or down. So if camera reboots for some reason (say power failure) it will not go back to the exact preset home position.

Slow motion effect on some profiles. Fixed this by reducing the frame rate.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsGreat 1st Camera

Pros: The Camera functions exactly as expected. Immediate response to movement commands. Camera rotation is very good, and allows for a large area to record. Like different options as far as view resolution. Once the app and software are setup correctly, very satisfied with setup so far. Family can view from any device when there is a knock at the door.

Cons: There are 2 different ways to use the camera. I mention Pros above regarding the standalone camera webpage. I just have to figure out what I need to do to get the TRENDnetView Pro software to work on my dedicated computer. The weird thing is the Server software sees the camera, but I get "Error 0xa12409aa" after setup. Not crying about it yet, haven't spent enough time to troubleshoot.

Other Thoughts: This is a definite buy. If you're looking to spend between $100-150, like me, go with this one.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA - Can't be found on Network

Pros: None to speak of at the moment. Will re-review on replacement.

Cons: No matter how many ways I try, this camera is not showing itself on my network. I have tried WPS, Manual Wireless, and wired network as well as two separate routers and trying different network cables. As such, I cannot even get to the install camera phase.

The camera seems to go through it's startup routine... blue light comes on and the camera does an initial pan and tilt. However, it never gets beyond that point.

Other Thoughts: I will give this camera one more try and hope to post a more positive review. Hopefully, this was just a one-time faulty unit.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: I really like this IP cam. Decent pictures day and night, lots of options for image quality and recording (including recording to a NAS), motion and sound triggering, smooth(ish) pan & tilt. Can email pics and video when triggered. Decent free app to view the camera over the internet. Camera can also be accessed via a web browser; I've tested FF 29, Chrome 35, and IE 11, and it works with all of them. Built-in mic and line out for a speaker. Very good price. Wireless seems to have good range.

Cons: Pictures are a bit noisier than I like. No option to limit the amount of space to use for recording; you can set the amount of free space to leave, but that's awkward on a big network drive (I could ask it to leave 1.9TB free on a 2TB drive, but then if I store a bunch of videos there's no space left for the cam). Cloud access via the app seems to be limited to one mobile device; I have the app installed on three Nexi, but only one can access the camera from outside my LAN (all can access it from inside). This limitation is easy to get around with a 3rd party app (I use IP Cam Viewer) and port forwarding. Browser access requires plug-ins (possibly unavoidable but a nuisance). No optical zoom (but not expected for the price) and focus is via a manual focus ring.

Other Thoughts: Haven't tried the included TrendnetView Pro software.

The first company that marries an IP camera like this with a cheap point & shoot (to get true optical zoom, autofocus/electronic focus, and high-res stills with flash) and sells it for under $200 will sell billions.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I bought this camera as a gift to my sister who just had her baby. I compared baby monitors in the store and found this IP camera would provide most features. We setup the camera in the baby room upstairs and monitor the baby from her home office just downstairs. The image quality is good and very easy to setup. Installation is very easy and the cloud feature make viewing live images on her computer even more convenient. We also installed the free app on my sister’s iphone controlling the camera’s pan and tilt. There is 2-way audio, works just great. We love it.

Cons: No so far.
