1 out of 5 eggsCheap but does it work?

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: Low price

Cons: I am staring at a blank screen from both my iphone and my PC. Software bug? Hello Dlink?

Other Thoughts: It worked for a while. Now it only displays a blank screen.

4 out of 5 eggsInexpensive network camera

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: As far as a cheap, inexpensive network camera goes, this is a good as it gets.

- Well, it works after a lot trial and error.
- Did I mention it was cheap and inexpensive?

Cons: - It's very difficult to configure.
- Documentation is lacking in many areas, particularly in how to set up motion capture to email offsite.
- The stand doesn't have the best build quality. Once installed, it's rather difficult to unmount if you want to move it.
- Lack of timestamp or camera name in motion capture images.

Other Thoughts: i bought this as a security camera for the front door of my girlfriend's place. I give it 4 stars only because it's relatively cheap compared to other network cameras that I have installed (Linksys brand). A lot of flaws (especially the lack of timestamping) but in the end it works once configured.

For those of you that can't seem to motion capture to work, the trick that did it for me is making sure all the boxes are outlined in color when selecting which regions to motion capture. The documentation doesn't indicate which way is enabled (outlined or not). It also requires JRE to display the motion capture grid during configuration. I prefer not to have JRE on my computers to keep that attack vector closed.

1 out of 5 eggsCam good Stand Bad =worthless

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: The camera is full of features and works well- but the stand is so cheap it breaks- making the camera Un-able to stay in position. Yes, that is right- the technology is great- the easy part- plastic stand D-link messed up on.

Cons: 2 separate cams the stands have broken. I was VERY careful with them. The Plastic is brittle. The bad part is the cameras are worthless with out the stands. Customer support at d-link is worthless.

Other Thoughts: I love the cams but 2 of them the stand has broken and I can either stare at the floor or the ceiling. I will never buy D-link again

4 out of 5 eggsGood enough

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: Web interface, smartphone app, wireless

Cons: Java applet flakey, tend to use Internet Explorer and ActiveX instead.

DLink's website veiwer doesn't work, even with latest firmware. Don't know why. But I can view the cameras outside the home from my smartphone fine using their app.

Other Thoughts: Not a super polished solution although it does offer a lot, so the little bit that isn't working for me isn't a deal killer. Just expect issues for the price point.

4 out of 5 eggsGood cheap camera

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: - at $32 it is definitely the cheapest wireless IP camera available.
- resolution is adjustable and while not amazing more than good enough for a security camera. If you want refresh rates higher just lower the resolution a little.
- It does have a web interface hosted on the device for configuring it with quite a few options for a regular user like myself.
- Seems to support multiple users, so you could add someone temporarily then remove them.
- It seems to handle looking through my window just fine, although the sun isn't bright; there is definitely glare and reflection, but I would expect that and I can see through it.
- The web interface is easy to use, especially considering I didn't have to mess with my firewall, or do anything special.
- The Android app also works well, and has the ability to scan for local and cloud cameras which is a nice feature for refresh rates when used as a baby monitor rather than security camera.

Cons: - Definitely not for a novice, it requires at least an intermediate IT level to install and configure.
- The CD install wouldn't run without updating itself, but couldn't update itself on windows 8.1, so I had to manually install the update it downloaded.
- While it does adjust itself for lighting level, it's not great and bright light coming in through the window does wash my face out.

Other Thoughts: It is a cheap camera, and so far I am loving it. I have only just set it up so I don't know how bad the java updates people complain about are, but it did ask me to update mine on first access. There is a setting to switch viewing to ActiveX on the camera, if the java issue gets too bad I might try that.

At this moment I am very happy with it, and if things continue I will probably buy a few more.

3 out of 5 eggsgood item so far

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: good physical size, good picture quality, smartphone app works good.

Cons: hard to find what you need on the Dlink website. Not sure why it needs to update Java everytime you access camera from a pc....Initial setup required lots of updates. Wireless setup not easy and not for a novice.
Dlink site says latest firmware is 1.08 but running 1.09?

Manufacturer Response:

We thank you for the feedback and greatly appreciate the comments. Please take note that if you visit D-Link's support site (http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DCS-930L) there are firmware upgrades, tutorials, FAQ's, and user manuals that are designed to be easily accessible to the user. Regarding the issue of the constant update of Java, we suggest that you make sure Java is enabled in your internet browser. If you are still experiencing issues feel free to contact D-Link technical support by visiting www.support.dlink.com or by calling 1-877-453-5465. An agent will assist you in resolving any problems. We thank you for being a D-Link customer.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, 640x480 Resolution, mydlink enabled

Pros: inexpensive

Cons: took a while to set up. unlike the description in the write-up here

Other Thoughts: Hey it's a cheap price but it does the job. But only during the day or when the lights are on at night. I use this to view my ailing father (who lives with me) while I am at work. From the app it only takes a few seconds and then the picture appears. It works just fine
