4 out of 5 eggsNot for beginners

Pros: Great picture compared to some other brands, especially for the sub-40 price mark. Great low light performance compared to my other brands of similar cameras. Running four on a common gigabit LAN @ ~ 10-11 FPS with no bandwidth or performance issues.

Cons: Bundled Windows client software seems like an unsupported one-off designed for something quick and dirty to include with the device. Not directly supported by most third party viewer software, but it will work with these if you are a hacker or software expert.

Other Thoughts: Worth every penny, but this era device is not mature for the consumer market. Some of the newer and upcoming cameras may be a lot easier for the average user to operate.

2 out of 5 eggsListen to the Other Reviews

Pros: Price

Cons: I had no problems connecting another D-Link camera, the DCS-930L to my wireless network. That camera performs well. This one does not. Will not connect to wireless AT ALL. Even on a wired connection, video is blurry, grainy and overall of poor quality.

Other Thoughts: Do not waste your money.

1 out of 5 eggsCan only be monitored with a PC - not Kindle (Android) or iPhone

Pros: Good product for monitoring with a Windows PC with Java Plug in

Cons: The apps for iPhone and Android are rated 1 star by most users. In fact, I cannot find an app that supports this model of camera -- check carefully -- mydlink lite and others do not include this model on the list

Other Thoughts: I have spent maybe 3 hours on 4 separate calls with DLink support. They act like it can be fixed but I think they know the apps work for very few people. I have an iPad 1, iPad 3, iPhone 4s and original Kindle Fire. The ONLY one that works is the Kindle Fire, and then only in the house on the same network. Leave your home, and none of the apps will work even after updating camera software and even after updating the apps. On Apple products, the app will crash the moment it opens

3 out of 5 eggsOK but could be better

Pros: Sturdy base/mounting hardware. Nice resolution for price-point

Cons: Limited MacOS/Linux support (requires ActiveX for configuring motion detection and for recording video).

1 out of 5 eggsFollow up - Still Hopeless

Pros: I am struggling to find any. The camera appears to work pretty well in low light. I have hung on to this camera in the hope of firmware / support improvements... But they haven't come.

Cons: I've had this camera almost 2 months and even though D-Link has released two App updates for ios5 issues and the release of ios6 this camera still crashes the mydlinklite app. I also purchased the mydlink+ app and the app is unable to ever connect to this camera. Remote access appears only available on a Windows PC.

Other Thoughts: I purchase hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment for my business, and currently D-Link is contacting me about becoming a VIP+ partner. I don't think I am interested if you are going to not support you products. I have now seen the more expensive Logitech cameras in action and viewed on an iPhone.... If you are looking for a remote camera solution, then maybe looks at those.

3 out of 5 eggsupdate

Pros: I can watch my dog sleep.

Cons: Needs lower and slower settings to function as a smartphone IP camera. The error messages on mydlinklite app are not helpful. Dlink did not reply to my request for help and their site's FAQs did not have information to help me. Picture is okay, like bank/security cameras a few years ago. Most security cameras pics I see these days are better than this, you don't have to be their mom to recognize them as you would have to be with this cam.

Other Thoughts: My prior 1 star review was wrong, sort of. I had gone to mydlink.com and under advanced settings had set what I wanted the camera to do and it wasn't working. I went back and chose lower settings and it will work as a smartphone IP camera. As you raise the settings you can watch the picture fail on your phone seconds later. You have to chose lower and slower settings. The higher settings worked in a browser on a pc, just not on a phone.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't bother

Pros: microphone works

Cons: Needs to be close to the router as in the same room. Or, I got it to work wired to a pc which was wifi connected to my router. By itself, its range is one room, no walls between it and a router. Only works with internet explorer. I was able to use it and watch my son play WOW from another room. Saved me walking in there. Otherwise, why have this. It does NOT work with the mydlinklite app so I can't use it away from home. My employer wouldn't like me using their electrons on one of their vintage dell pcs to watch rom work and I am in the field mostly so it is useless to me if it won't work with our galaxy s2 or galaxy s3 phones.

Other Thoughts: Even if the problem is the mydlinklite app and they upgrade/fix the app to work with samsung phones it still has such poor wireless range that I don't know if it is worth bothering with. I guess it depends if you want to aim the camera at something in the room with your router or if you have a network connected pc you can connect it to with cat-5.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't do it

Pros: Inexpensive and has nice packaging.

Cons: Not up to par with other D-Link cameras. Cheaply built, can't view from anything except PC. They almost appear to be knock-offs.

Other Thoughts: Don't fall for the 940L. Get the 930, 932 or 942. They all work fine. I have 16 total in 4 locations.

2 out of 5 eggsDCS-940L - Does NOT work with mydlink app

Pros: The cams video stream can be viewed using the web browser (IE only, doesn't work with chrome) of a PC using the devices IP address. Setup wizard included on CD was relatively easy and straight forward.

Was able to setup and connect to wireless.

Cons: Unable to get video to show on any devices using the "mydlink lite" app. Tried it on iphone 4, iphone 4s, ipad and Android, the app either times out, gives an error or crashes and exists to desktop. Even after I upgraded the cams firmware version from v1 to v1.0.34, no change. There weren't even release notes for the upgrade, why not?

Tried to configure using netbook that didn't have a CD drive so I downloaded the install wizard from Dlinks website. Got an error about being unable to find Safari web browser. I downloaded the Windows specific version yet it prompts for Safari, ehhhh?

Ended up using a desktop to configure the device which went pretty well all things considered.

Created tech support ticket with DLINK, but in trying to search online for error codes or support of this model there really isn't much.

Other Thoughts: The whole reason I got it was because of the apps for apple and android devices. The setup was quick, but since the mydlink app doesn't work it is so far a huge disappointment.

Had firmware rev 1.0 out of the box. Upgraded to v1.0.34 but there aren't even any release notes to know what was addressed.

Will update if/when I hear back from Dlink Tech support.

Technically the web cam is working, just not with the Apps. Considering the whole reason I bought the thing was for the supposed ease of access on different devices I am giving this a 2 out of 5.

3 out of 5 eggssecond one seems to work

Pros: Cheap when on sale. Was able to nail down the IP address to avoid DHCP after reading the manual and setup WPA personal security for WiFi.

Cons: Cheap. First one was DOA. Read other reviews about slow frame rate and poor low light performance. Browser must be IE.
