24/7 HD Surveillance
The DCS-2310L is built with a megapixel image sensor to give you high-quality snapshots and video with resolutions up to 720p HD. This gives you sharp, high-resolution snapshots and videos with rich detail. Get a closer look with ePTZ, which lets you zoom in, zoom out, and pan across your camera's video so you can survey a large area easily.
An infrared cut removable (ICR) filter is also built into the DCS-2310L, which blocks infrared light during the day for improved image quality. At night, it moves out of the way to use all available light for low-light surveillance, and paired with the IR LED illuminator, this camera can monitor an area even in complete darkness.
A great daytime cam.
Pros: For those of us who own the dcs-1100 and dcs-1130 by D-Link, this cam brings everything you like about them feature wise. Samba streaming is there, and the event driven notification is slightly more advanced. The picture quality is excellent during the day, and an upgrade over the 1100/1130 due to the extra sharpness from the higher resolution. The POE feature is great and this camera is very very green on power. I measured a watt or two with a kill-a-watt using POE. The night vision is great as long as you don't use it in absolute darkness.
Cons: The major con of this camera is the night vision in absolute darkness. It claims "See up to 15-ft in the dark" but I think that is stretching it a bit. It seemed to see more like 5 feet, if that. The upside is that if there is some light, as in not absolute darkness, the picture is fantastic at night. Our backyard is absolutely dark, and I had considered returning this camera since the night time image was unusable. However, after moving it to the front of my house, the ambient light at night from street lights is enough to provide for a fantastic night image. As an example, the dcs-932 could see much much further at night, and it costs much less. (But then the functionality isn't there for samba streaming and the like, and the resolution is much less.)
Other Thoughts: This is a nice camera as an upgrade from a dcs-1100/1130, and spoils you with its much higher resolution. As long as you go into it knowing that in absolute darkness it can't see more than a few feet, you shouldn't find any surprises.
