3 out of 5 eggsIt's ok.

Pros: Small and compact.. works very well in recording from up to 9 cameras, great for the price.

Cons: Poor playback. You can only playback 1 channel at a time. Requires software to be run from a PC or MAC to add the device to the mydlink.com cloud interface...

Other Thoughts: Why does it only playback one channel? It gives you the option of playing back more than 1, but then gives an error that the maximum number of channels has been exceeded. So don't offer me the option of choosing more than 1... if one is the limit.

The playback is very difficult to follow. If you know the time you want, it's ok... but to review an entire evening for example, to see if something happened on one of the 9 channels, would take hours..... so hopefully you know when it happened....

This hardware is basically the dlink camera software, which I didn't like either.... I expected better from a hardware device, but got the same result as it's the same software, just on a small Linux box.

I still haven't been able to register the box on mydlink.com as dlink forces you to use software on your Windows (or mac) PC to configure the mydlink.com connection, and it always reports that the device doesn't have internet access.... which it does..

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good, But Not Great

Pros: Able to view multiple streams at once
Integrates well with D-Link cameras
Doubles as a NAS

Cons: Only works with Internet Explorer
Only integrates with D-Link cameras

Other Thoughts: This NVR works pretty much as expected. I am currently using it with D-Link DCS-2230 cameras and it integrates well with these. I would like if it integrated with other manufacturer's cameras also, but I can see why D-Link wouldn't do that.

The live playback screen works well. It allows you to show up to 9 (3x3) video feeds at once. The recorded playback interface is slightly sluggish, but works as expected. The playback (both live and recorded) only works with Internet Explorer, however, because it requires a C++ redistributable that only seems to be available in IE.

I also like the fact that you can use this as a NAS in addition to an NVR. The one drawback is that RAID 1 is not available when NAS is enabled (one disk is for video and one disk is for the network drive).

Overall, the NVR has met all of my expectations, but hasn't exceeded them. I would recommend it for somebody who wants to setup their own security system.
