5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy setup and far less expensive than similar units on the market. Tried 2 different Q-See products from s'yrF electronics both DOA. This unit half the price and more features. Unlike prior reviews I feel no hard drive is advantage. From new egg a 750GB hard drive for $60-70, and good luck finding a DVR even twice as much as this that can support hard drivre that size. Motion detection setup amazingly simple. Great system for home or business monitoring at low price.

Cons: Poorly written instructions, obvious budget cuts on translators. But easy menu to figure out and even came with mouse to make navigation better, oops this is cons section. Having some difficulty with network connection, hopefully can have addressed when I upgrade my cameras this month.

Other Thoughts: Don't let the lack of hard drive be an issue if looking to buy. Other much more expensive DVR units come with 120-300GB hard drives and sell for $100-200 more at least, and you can easily add a hard drive with simple formatting by the unit. My 750GB hard drive was simple install and works like a charm.

1 out of 5 eggsFlaky

Pros: It's cheap

Cons: -glitchy. Mine randomly changed menu option language to Chinese.
-bad QA. My 1st one(which I returned) came with a bad BNC plug.
-no hard drve. Nowhere does it state that this DVR does not come with a hard drive. You only find out after turning it on.
-bad button layout. Kept pressing wrong button in navigation because button layout was not very intuitive.

Other Thoughts: It's cheap and you're getting pretty much what you paid for. Got RMA once because of defect. Returned 2nd RMA after getting frustrated with it for a week because of glitches. Beware the 15% restocking fee. I learned the hard way.

5 out of 5 eggsBest choice for 4 cam instllation

Pros: Unbeatable price and surprisingly good quality. Best choice for 4 cam installation.

Installed it early this year at client's house. Haven't heard back thus far. Installed plenty of DVR's 3-4 times more expensive, this one works just as great.

Cons: DDNS feature works funny if you're behind a router.

4 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: - Price
- Lots of features comparable to high end models
- Compact !
- Motion detection can activate an internal relay.

Cons: - Only captures at 720x240 resolution maximum.
- Even at best recording quality the picture is very
grainy with lots of artifacting.
- Unit resets a lot when playing back videos

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for, but if you are on a limited
budget this is a decent little DVR. The interface is
pretty easy to figure out even if the manual is not.
PC software is flakey but all these low end units suffer
from this. Playback is a little choppy, it seems to play a little
like slow motion. The occasional resetting when you are
playing back vids is a little annoying, maybe it's the
particular hard drive ?
