Cheap, Works
- Pros: Comparatively cheap
Has audio on all video feeds
Not a huge card so no problems installing in a Mini-ITX case with an Atom board (case needs to support full height cards)
So far the software has captured, manipulated files and displayed them with no errors or lockups.
Came with paper and pdf manual which are pretty good and mostly translated well enough to be understood.
- Cons: These are nitpicking but as I had no major complaints I figured I would bring them up.
The software came burned on a blank unlabeled CD-R disk named Maxmax.
The web interface misspelled "Camara".
My "Retail" version as it was called was just a plain unlabeled white box with different size foam shoved in.
- Other Thoughts: Linux support would have been a nice extra.
Web interface would be nicer if configurable.
Decent capture card for the money....
- Pros: * Relatively simple to set up and use.
* Can capture 8 feeds at once running in real time (30 fps) at 320x240 NTSC without choppyness.
* Can watch up to 16 feeds at once with the provided software. It can also automatically cycle thru the cams with one feed in a larger area but the other feeds still visible in smaller areas. Also has customizable Motion Detection ability.
* Using MS MPEG-4 compression, a 30 minute capture running at 100 quality and 30 fps is roughly a 237 MB file.
*Can use pretty much whatever codec you like to encode the files (MS MPEG-4, XviD, DivX, etc....).
- Cons: * Can only capture 3 feeds running at 640x480 in real time (30 fps). When you activate the 4th feed the video gets random choppyness across all feeds (I have not tried taking the frame rate down yet because I need to capture the video in real time).
* Video is captured in a .pmf file format and you have to convert to .avi with the .pmf veiwer that is provided with the software, but you can select your codec there as well for the conversion.
* Tried getting the card to work in Ubuntu with a DVR software package called ZoneMinder. Based on the card chipset it should not have issues running, but for some reason I cannot get it to work where I have had success with relatively ANCIENT capture cards (Osprey 100...lol).
So far that is all that I have experienced on the Cons side......
- Other Thoughts: This is not too bad of a DVR/capture card for the money, like I said it is simple to use, the software is pretty straight forward and it does not beat up your machine too bad (I was able to run it on a 4 year old Pentium 4 HT 3.6 GHZ processor without issue as well as an AMD 64 X2 Dual 4600+).
I use this card with a few different branded IR cams in Paranormal Investigations and so far I have not been disappointed with the speed, the performance or the video quality.
I called the RapidOS/Aposonic USA distributor for newegg.com before buying this card to inquire about another RapidOS card, the RW-3120P (MUCH more expensive...) and they actually recommended the RW-1240R card and said it was lower in price and MUCH more easier to use. I have to give them KUDOS for that......
Mutliple card support
- Pros: Good Cheap card- It supports 8 BNC connectors for cameras, but the software supports up to 16 cameras. Either 2x 8 port cards, or 4x 4 port cards.
- Cons: None yet
- Other Thoughts: Nope
