4 out of 5 eggsSolid Camera

Pros: High-res camera. More accurate colors than your standard ipCam. I've own the Foscam FI8918W, Two Zmodo CM-I11123BKs, one Cisco Linksys WVC210. This camera is the best of the 4 that I use. The image is very sharp, and the camera is always up. I use dyndns services and the camera is always reachable. I've had to reset this camera only once.

Cons: No night vision, but I knew that when I purchased it. The SC card slot and saving functions should just be written out. It flat out wouldn't work, no matter what I tried. Luckily I did not purchase the camera for this purpose.

Other Thoughts: Overall a good buy if you are using your camera to keep watch remotely over your home or kids. If you're looking for a camera which will save, or one for continuous recording suggest looking elsewhere. In fact you should purchase a DVR system for that. I will continue to buy edimax. If you're using an iPhone be sure to download IP Cam Viewer Pro

3 out of 5 eggsGood daytime camera with caveats

Pros: Very good daylight images.

Cons: Terrible low-light images.
Frequent dropped and not recovered wireless signal.
User interface will intimidate non-techies but it gets the job done.

Other Thoughts: Abandoned the wireless, went with wired connection.
If you plan to record at night you'll need extreme illumination.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry for your feedback.

IC-3030Wn has no Infrared so it does not have night vision function. We have a different product which can do night vision.

Regarding the wireless dropped issue, we may need to get more information in order to assist. Please feel free to contact our tech support at 408-496-1105 or email to support@edimax.us.

1 out of 5 eggsDeceptive Claims

Pros: Price. No WiFi issues.

Cons: The manual is terrible with broken English. The software design is awful. It forces you to use Internet Explorer. You can't turn off the audio. UPnP doesn't even work. h264 is limited to IE and won't work with iOS/Android apps. And get this - motion detection and the scheduler can't trigger normal recordings!!! They can only record snapshots!!! Also, you can't stand it upright without the mount because the ports are inexplicably on the base. And if you lay it on its side, you can't rotate the image 90 degrees.
The Android app freezes when you click on settings, and the video quality is bad and unwatchable with a max framerate of 6. Quality is even worse on the iPhone app - the reason is that it's not streaming h264. It only streams MJPEG to anything that isn't Internet Explorer. In fact I don't think it even streams h264 to IE - I think it streams MJPEG and IE re-encodes it to h264. I don't know this for a fact, but it would explain why this thing's so crippled.

Other Thoughts: Mobile devices have hardware decoders for h264. They can handle 720p/30 smoothly without straining the battery. But feed it MJPEG and you're lucky to get 5fps for low res as its CPU maxes out and drains power. So its mobile apps are worthless.
For the PC, I'm used to bundled software from Taiwanese brands being bad, but this software is so bad it exceeded my expectations. I assumed I could use this with 3rd party software that supports IP cams if need be. Yet h264 doesn't work with 3rd party software. It doesn't even work with the EDIMax 1st party software for mobile devices!
This is one of the worst experiences I've had with a new electronic product in possibly a decade. It feels like a sleazy used car salesman just sold me a lemon. The fact that it touts h264 support as well as iPhone/Android support on the same page -- but neglects to mention that you can't have both at the same time -- is fraudulent.
Note that I'm running the latest firmware (1.9).

5 out of 5 eggsNot what I expected

Pros: Purchased this about a month ago and couldn't be happier. For the price it can be beat. It has been monitoring my front office flawlessly over wifi and was very easy to set up. I use TinyIP on my Android to monitor from the outside. The mic is pretty sensitive and works well to listen from my phone. I have a 3030 that's hardwired in another part of my office and that works flawlessly as well. Seems good in lower light too. I can see outside the front of my office at night with just street lighting. It does see IR so I might try a cheap IR illuminator to light things up at night.

Cons: Wish it had a built in speaker in addition to the audio out jack.

Other Thoughts: I picked up a second one during the Black Friday sale and plan to use it as a nursery monitor.

2 out of 5 eggsI dont like it

Pros: Cheap
Plenty of features

Cons: It's huge!!
Awful port placement. Power cable attached to the bottom.
Forget about low light recording. I knew that when I was buying it.
Very narrow field of view
Unstable ActiveX for IE. Keeps crashing in IE9

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these making me an owner of 4 Edimax cameras. (the other 2 are PTZ versions that are more compact) While I am satisfied with the first two these are not as good even at BF $60 deal.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Black Friday Deal

Pros: Pretty good video quality. Mounting hardware was good. Wireless is working well (keep range in mind). Cheapest 1.3mp out there. Color representation is fair and I like the focus wheel, although it is a bit challenging to get set just right.

Cons: I'm not sure the 1024x768 setting actually looks any better than 640x480 and it takes 4x the bandwidth which can tax your wifi, esp at long range. Lots of ports to forward (80, 4321, 554, 50000-60000) in order to make it viewable outside your LAN network, and half of these aren't even mentioned in the instructions. Major digging and an hour later I was up and running.

Other Thoughts: Check your ISP upload bandwidth, it's probably capped at 100KB/s or less. This makes viewing camera streams online problematic and having multiple cameras viewed simultaneously would only compound the problem. It appears the cam needs about 200-300KB/s sustained for a MPEG4 stream @ 640x480.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For the price, nothing comes close to beating this on multi-pixel resolution.
Ability to focus is great at this price (compared to my DSC-932L which can not be focused).
Edimax appears to only have a few cams, not big in this field.
Edimax tech support was great.

Cons: As with any IP camera, installation can be tricky. What I thought was a camera issue (and almost made me return it) was really a third party software product called Blue Iris. Finally got it working.

Other Thoughts: Can't beat this camera at this price on picture quality. I will purchase another.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: Finally got it viewable from outside local network.

Cons: Took 3 days, the stars needed to align properly, and the proper curse words needed to be uttered several times in succession to make it all work.

Other Thoughts: I finally figured it out. At least on my router configuration (WRT54GL v1.1 using Tomato) I had to do some interesting port forwarding. Many ISP's block port 80, so I configured the camera to operate on external port 3333 (you can use whatever, just make it obscure/non-standard). I then forwarded this port internally to port 80 in the router firmware. Many routers using standard firmware will probably not be able to do this, but it looks something like this:

IPCAM Internal Port Forward: 80 External Port Forward: 3333

This is the only way I could get the camera accessible from outside my local network and viewable from the internet. Hope this helps others. I have given the camera a final mark of 2 out of 5 eggs, subtracting 3 completely due to the time and effort it took to make it all work. The documentation was no help at all - I had to figure it all out myself. It does work well now, just be prepared to spend a lot of time potentially working out the bugs on your netw

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing, and we appreciate your feedback.

Indeed you need to do port forwarding in the router so that you can view the camera from a remote location. We have a FAQ section on www.edimax.us about remote access the camera from Internet.

If you need any of our assistance, please contact our tech support at 408-988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". We will try our best to help.

1 out of 5 eggsLocal Only

Pros: Works great for local network.

Cons: You need advanced certification in IT to configure it. Documentation provided is lacking and unclear.

Other Thoughts: I really wanted to love this camera. I have a heavy background in building PC's, computer software support and IT. I absolutely could not get this camera to work except on the local network.

First, the camera had to be upgraded to firmware 1.9 (from 1.5), as the wireless would not connect. I found this was a common problem when using WPA so upgraded firmware and wireless connected immediately with WPA-2 Personal. I tried everything in my arsenal of tricks including two different routers (WRT54GL & BEFW11S4) and could not monitor the camera from an internet connection outside my local network. Port forwarding, changing web ports on the camera, DMZ - nothing worked. Will be sending it back since this makes it useless for me.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Bang for Buck

Pros: Can e-mail movement triggered videos and snapshots without PC. Movement detection areas (3) can be set with indivdual sensitivity adjustments. Pointing out my back window I have it covered during daylight hours. Setup not for novis, but not hard either. I had no need to contact tech support. It is impossible to get a wireless camera with WPA2 security, movement triggering functions without a PC, storage on SD driver... wow.. specs better than my Panasonic camera at a much lower cost.

Cons: Not for night time use unless area is well lit.

Other Thoughts: I am onsidering buying another one even though I really don't need it. As always, Newegg is fast and good price, providing a great product. THANKS NEWEGG
