5 out of 5 eggsEdimax cameras

Pros: Fair price, mount worked great, picture quality pretty
good (note this camera has a wide angle lens), software
worked OK. This is the 3rd Edimax camera I have bought
from Newegg. The first was the Pan/Tilt type and the 2nd was the IC-3030 all worked fine. The one point I wanted to make about all 3 is the focal length of the lenses are all different. The longest is the 3030 it is about like a 70mm lens, the Pan/Tilt lens is like a 50mm and this one is like a 28mm lens on my SLR. They all have been easy to set up and the documentation is good. They seem to be well built and I have had no
troubles with them so I cannot tell you about their customer support.

Cons: So far none that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I will be buying about 3-4 more of this model (I am using the Edimax cameras for store security system)

4 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: * Cheap
* Excellent image quality at max resolution (considering the price)
* Roughly 10+fps at max resolution over wired lan. I have not tried wireless but I suspect it would be a much lower frame rate.

Cons: * Video setting controls (brightness, contrast, etc) have a tendency to freeze the camera and cause it to reboot.
* Can't set exposure time (necessary to ensure sharp pics of moving subjects).
* Frames frequently get corrupted (as many as about 10 frames per minute) where most of the image will appear offset and split, and colors seem to get mixed up as well. Anyway this has a tendency to mess with motion detection software and it causes a nasty flicker if you are trying to monitor the camera live.
* A lot of the

Other Thoughts: I have tried firmwares 1.3 on two cameras and upgraded to 1.7 on one camera. The image corruption problem applies to both cameras regardless of firmware version. If anything, 1.7 is a bit less stable than 1.3 as I had to reboot the 1.7 device once when it stopped providing images.

1.7 added no-ip dynamic dns support.

Easy setup.

Cons: The mounting bracket is horrible.

Other Thoughts: Not bad for the price.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's 'OK'

Pros: This camera worked out of the box. It was cheap.

Cons: Absolutely minimal implementation. No Ad Hoc mode (manual says so, but permanently grayed out on UI). No ability to set WiFi channel (must pick existing AP from list). No ability to flip or reverse image. Pinhole lens; impossible to clean if splattered with something. Poor mount. No support of any kind to ask why Ad hoc exists, but is grayed out.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to use this as a movable rear view camera (Camper, boat - most cheap wireless cameras don't have the range) with my iPad. No way to do this without an intermediate AP (OK, that's an iPad limitation, too). But I can't reverse the picture (most IP cameras allow this), so this camera would have right and left reversed.

4 out of 5 eggsHappy but not completely satisfied

Pros: The actual picture quality is pretty good, you can't read license plates or see any fine details, but you could tell which of your friends was walking up to your house from 30+ ft away.

The setup is easy, just connect via the network cable, configure the wireless, disconnect the network cable.

The unit seems to remember its settings with no power for an extended period of time

Cheap, quick shipping

Android app to monitor them is free

Work in multiple browsers (though some features only work in IE)

The administrative panel gives you a fair amount of configuration options

The mounting hardware and included bits are all useful

Cons: The FPS and resolution are not as advertised, the highest resolution is not enabled by default, and when enabled you will not see much more than half a frame a second wireless, or maybe 2-5 fps via 100mbps hard wired. There will never be a situation where this camera runs at 30, 20, or even 10 FPS on highest resolution, wireless or not. I really expected the FPS they advertised at the resolution they advertised, and was disappointed.

You will have to run in 800x600 and even then you will only get 10fps or lower if you're more than 10 ft away or behind a wall or two.

The WiFi range is extremely low, FPS degrades with range. Every ten feet seems to halve the FPS, it's insane. It's hard to believe this unit is Wireless-N given it's performance.

There is no night vision on this camera, you can adjust the brightness and contrast to get a really crummy night picture, but you will basically have two black screens at night.

Other Thoughts: Overall I'm satisfied, even though I'm a bit disappointed. I wanted a way to see things happening around my house, and send messages/take pictures when someone walks up to my door. I got that, but the dishonesty about the FPS and resolution were pretty upsetting.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

When you observe the FPS value of IC-3015Wn, did you access the camera from a remote location or in the local network of the IC-3015Wn?

Basically the video streaming of IC-3015Wn uses tremendous upload Internet bandwidth. The FPS will be adjusted automatically based on the available upload bandwidth. Maybe that is why you do not receive maximum fps from IC-3015Wn.

3 out of 5 eggsPretty good, when it doesn't drop it's wireless conneciton

Pros: I had no problem setting this IP camera up. I assigned a manual IP to it and had it up and running in about 10 minutes. I was able to view it from an Android and iPhone app with no problems.

Cons: The wireless connection seems to drop quite often. When wired and monitored for hours, there is no problems. However, when connected wireless, there seems to be random drops and I must unplug the camera from the power source and reconnect it.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Was first shipped a defective unit, but the vendor was very quick to offer a replacement via RMA. The new one works very well!

Cons: First unit was defective, but thanksfully the RMA process was quick and easy

3 out of 5 eggsDecent camera

Pros: Image is nice. Wireless is solid and I get great frame rates on the wireless lan even at the highest resolution. Good price

Cons: Over the internet is a different story. I think the MJPEG compression must be terrrible. With a 1 meg up connection, I get about 1 frame a second at 640x480 and 3-4 frames a second at 320x240. At 1280x960 it's about .2-.3

Other Thoughts: Great price. Nice camera if you only use over wireless lan, but not good for internet viewing. Get a camera with H.264 compression.

5 out of 5 eggsGood buy!

Pros: Setup was a snap. Set it up via Ethernet cable first. Came right up! Then unhooked the cable, click the link button on my Wireless N Router and the link button on the camera and BOOM...hooked right up! Mounting hardware that is included is more than sufficient. Image quality is better than expected at this price point as well.

Cons: At night looking through a window the power and activity LEDs on the front reflect off the window and wash the picture. Repositioned the camera a few times and no wash, but the reflection of the LEDs off the glass still obstructs about 10-15% of the frame.

Other Thoughts: Great little camera for the beginner or for those on a budget. I believe a better price point would be in the $24.99 to $34.99 range. I would buy a few more if that were the case!

4 out of 5 eggsQuality image for price

Pros: Image has great colors and clearness for a 1.3Mp camera.
Good wireless range.
Excellent price.

Cons: Wifi setup is a disaster.
No sound (meh, not required for my needs).
Low FPS (4FPS at a distance, 20FPS close to router)

Other Thoughts: Mine defaulted to DHCP (not as the manual states), so figuring out what it's IP address was to begin with was a bit of a pain.
The wifi range is great, I have mine by the bird feeder outside about 80-feet from the Cisco 802.11n router. I get about 4-10 FPS at that range. Closer (but still outside) I get about 20 FPS. It connects very quickly to my network once given power. For streaming on my droid (moto triumph) I just use IP Cam Viewer Lite. The "TEST" button fails, but the app streams the camera just fine. I configured my router to let me hit my external IP address on port 8080 and forward to port 80 on the internal webcam IP so I can view it from anywhere in the world :). Overall, very happy with this purchase for bird-watching.
