3 out of 5 eggsok, but can not compare to D-link ipcam

Pros: Own this EDIMAX ipcam for more than a month, possitive about this device are:

1. set up is not complicated.
2. picture quality is ok, not great.
3. cheap
4. SD card lot for storage.

Cons: this ipcam work fine when i connect it with the ethernet cable. but when it try to connect it with wifi, it work fine when i put it 4 or 5 feet away from my router. But when I take it to my kid room and it start getting problem. the connection keep drop for couple minutes then it automatic connect back again for about 1 minutes, then it lost connection again. it keep do same thing again and again. this is annoying.

Other Thoughts: Over all for $40 i didn't expect must from it. But i will not purchase this again, the D-link ip camera is little bit more expensive, but it work great for me so far. I own 2 D-link ip camera for more than a year, and i have no problem with them. It easy to set up, good wifi connection, night view (this EDIMAX camera doesn't have night view), and one of the feature that I alway fall in love with D-link is every time I am alway from home and I need to connect my smart phone with the camera, it alway work.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsFunny Circle on image

Pros: low price for a 720p camera

Cons: image quality....ok but has a semicircular artifact on image,
on lan image is ok (interpolated to 1024) but using webview thru myedimax it leaves much to be desired...

Other Thoughts: trying to upload a "snip" to show artifact, but newegg only accepts moving pictures?

5 out of 5 eggsnice camera

Pros: Nice picture. Takes and stores pictures or short (1 minute) videos on sd card. No need to have computer on for this. My router crashed and it still watched things. Once router was restarted, camers did not connect right away. When I returned 10 hours later, camera was connected and no lapse of motion image recording to sd card happened.

Cons: It seems like the maximum time for short video recording to sd card is only 1 minute. # minutes woulld be much better.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if they would do a firmware upgrade to allow 3 minute video recording. Still got this on sale for $40. Glad I did it. Upgrade firmware as soon as you install the camera. It makes the wireless connection set up easier.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing. We appreciate your feedback and would like to help you solve the problem.

From the logs, the camera has wrong date of 2012/01/01 because it does not get the correct time from the NTP time server on Internet. We think the camera may have a wrong network settings so it does not connect to your local network properly for Internet. The first message about "Failed to open PT device!" is normal. This IC-3100W is not a pan tilt device like IC-7110W.

We need more information from you to provide possible solutions to solve your problem.
Please contact our tech support at (408)-988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with the issue.
We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

3 out of 5 eggsNeeds some fiddling

Pros: Cheap (on sale)
Decent image quality
Web-based setup (worked on a Mac)

Cons: A little big (used to Axis cameras)
No way to set all parameters from the GUI (see below)

Other Thoughts: Got this on a whim, it was cheap. As others said, the camera is not configured as "1.3 megapixel" out of the box (it's 640x480), and there's no way to do it on the web GUI.

There are some super-secret CGI commands that you can run to set the resolution, compression, etc, and once you do that, you get a nice 1280x1024 picture. Quality is OK (not great), but for the price it's fine.

Search for "Edimax HTTP CGI Commands" online, and you can find a PDF from Edimax detailing all the URLs to use to set the picture quality and size.

Haven't had time to try out audio, motion detection, etc. Just tested the basic features.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: Pretty good 'actual' resolution. Pictures are clear. Wi-Fi works great

Cons: Pictures but not as detailed as I would like at 30-50 feet, but that is probably true of most consumer cameras

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: Price
Setup
16-camera viewer software.
Cloud camera can view over internet without DDNS
H.264, MPEG, or M-JPEG option for recording
Color quality is decent
2-way Audio.
IP Finder works well even with other cameras.
Camera was set to DHCP (makes it easy to connect to router).

Cons: Picture quality is just ok - not as good as my other 1.3M pixel camera
Camera kept disconnecting or responding - flash to latest firmware seemed to fix.
WPS did not work with Netgear router - had to manually setup wireless network

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these on a Newegg special for under $50 each. Cannot find a brand name MPixel camera even close to that price.

Edimax makes decent cameras and keeps the firmware updated on the support site. Most of the cheap asian cameras have numerous problems and firmware is rarely updated. Edimax seems to have good support for their products and reviews on other sites show their support staff is responsive to requests.

A nice thing about software is the newer Edimax Viewer will work with older Edimax cameras. I have several Zonet cameras and the viewer will only see the same model camera. That means with 3 different models, I had to install 3 different viewers.

I was even able to view another brand camera with the Edimax Viewer. I had Zonet camera with same chipset as the Edimax 1500, so I flashed it with Edimax firmware and the camera now shows up as an Edimax :) and I can add it to the 16 camera viewer. Not only that, but the Edimax firmware corrected the bugs that the Zonet firmware had.

Okay, so the bottom line - this was a good purchase. Got two decent cameras at a terrific price. Not only that, but the Edimax firmware allowed me to resurrect and old Zonet camera that I could not longer use. So I guess you can say I got 3 cameras for under $100. I am waiting for the Edimax with night vision to go on sale and I will give it a try.

I will try to post a video review once I get everything up and running so folks can see the video quality and other features.

2 out of 5 eggsStill a prototype

Pros: Good Image, easy setup, good web interface with lots of options.

Cons: Overall design is really bad. It feels like a prototype. Its very difficult to place the camera on the stand. By the way, the stand is horrible. There is no way that the camera can face downward unless you create your own contraption. Placement of Ethernet cable, power cable and the antenna makes it impossible to place the camera properly.

Other Thoughts: Keep the software and hardware team. Encourage the aesthetic design team to join competitor, or, fire them.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing.
We appreciate your feedback.

Unlike our other camera, the IC-3100W is not a pan/tilt camera to face downward.

1 out of 5 eggsIP internet cameras are still unfriendly, NOT easy to deal with

Pros: The usual basic WiFi security camera

Cons: Friendly "plug and play" setup . . . NOT

Other Thoughts: Not so much about this exact model, but having been down this path before with multiple other versions of wireless IP internet security cameras, and the setup processes to actually get the intended results, this is still far from being a "friendly" plug and play process.

The manufacturers really have to clean this up, and make this procedure truly friendly.

Otherwise, customers like me are simply not going to buy this type of equipment, not for awhile yet.

I hope someone actually reads this, and gets the memo.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing.

We have a setup wizard software in the CD disc which will guide you setup the WiFi connection of the camera.
