5 out of 5 eggsno frills, general purpose, high quality wifi cam

Pros: The picture quality is excellent for this price range. It seems rock-solid and stable with the latest firmware and a strong wifi signal. It works great with Vera home automation systems and with any custom security system that uses IP cameras. You can just hit a URL to directly grab live pictures or video.

Cons: Ships with old firmware. You need a PC to update it. You basically need to connect it to ethernet, download and unzip new firmware, update the firmware with the camera's web UI (after you figure out its IP address), then set the wifi password in the web UI. Once that's done it is a worry-free, plug in anywhere kind of thing.

Other Thoughts: I do not use the "cloud" service that comes with this. I get similar functionality via my home automation system, which this integrates with perfectly.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't upgrade firmware!

Pros: It worked when I first set it up.

Cons: Worked until I did a firmware update as RECOMMENDED on the Edimax website. The firmware loaded and updated I assume. The message said that it would automatically reboot. I waited 15 minutes ... I DID NOTHING!!

Now I have a "dead device". I assume I will have to pay an RMA charge which will cost more than I paid for the device!

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this unit. Newegg is GREAT site that I have been using for more than a dozen years. Sometimes I will buy a BAD product and it's not their fault!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear James,

We are very sorry the firmware upgrade causing the unit out of order.

We have two years warranty for our products.

Please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with any issues. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy!

Pros: Great while it works...

Cons: Worked very well until firmware upgrade bricked the device. Was past the 1 year warranty so left with a expensive piece of plastic due to the vendors firmware update.

Doing a firmware upgrade should NEVER kill a device when doing it correctly. Not covered under warranty and do not trust firmware upgrades from this vendor so will be choosing others in the future, suggest you do the same.

If my power died or I uploaded the wrong version I would never take the time to post this. I had the correct file and applied it to the correct camera following the correct processes and bricked my camera. Sticking with name brand vendors in the future with good reputations established.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Amos,

We are very sorry the firmware upgrade bricked the device.

We have two years warranty for our products.

2 out of 5 eggsWireless stopped working after firmware 2.0 upgrade

Pros: When working it's okay, ... for the price. I bought two and after initial set up I could get both working using wireless and I could set up to monitor both using my cellphone.

Cons: - Movement detection? Trying to adjust so many ways, it would detect anything and keep sending snapshots (fill up your storage unnecessarily). I could send both FTP and email.
- Updated firmware upon purchase to 1.22, it worked. Then I learned upgrade 2.0 available, BUT, it says you need to reset, so I thought it's okay, I bought two, I'll just display the other settings can cut & paste. BTW, I always upgrade wire connected. Now, the one with 2.0 firmware won't connect to my wireless after I finished upgrading). My router (Airport Extreme) log says "maybe caused by wrong passwrod". I repeated the upgrade/reset, still can't connect. I got my cellphone to delete the connection profile, reconnect, enter the password, it got connected. So, no, I got the password right. So, it's either by sheer coincidence the wireless H/W got broken during upgrade to 2.0, or, the 2.0 firmware is bad, and so my choice right now is waiting for, hopefully, a better working firmware, or, if I could find a copy of the old 1.22 firmware. I'm keeping the other one at firmware 1.22.

Other Thoughts: For those who are curious and couldn't find using google: decide an arbitrary port (say, 12345), find out your ic-3115w ip in your router setting, set up to keep that ip tied to the camera mac address, create a forwarding from that port to port 80 of your camera ip, find your external router ip (use tracemyip of something), and you can monitor your camera using your router external ip and that 12345 port.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing with the firmware v2.0.

We suggest users to hold the WPS/reset button on the back of the IC-3115W for 15 seconds. It will reset to factory default settings.

We have received your email inquiry and have replied you.

If our suggestion does not help you out or if you need any further assistance, please feel free to let us know. Thanks.

1 out of 5 eggsLocks up constantly

Pros: Good picture when it's working.

Cons: I have 3 of these, all of them lock up constantly. Need to reboot them daily to keep getting pics. Firmware upgrade didn't help.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing.

Maybe the camera drop wireless connection with your Wi-Fi router. Can you please get into the setup page of the camera for the wireless function? It will show you all the wireless networks in your area. Please check the channel number of your wireless networks and other wireless networks. If possible, avoid using the same channel with your neighbors and use only channel 1, 6, or 11 which are the only channel not over lapping with each other.

We need more information in order to provide further assistance. Please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

2 out of 5 eggsNo scheduled photos

Pros: Good high resolution video, compact size, no wireless issues so far.

Cons: No matter what I do, I can't make it send email.
There is no way to schedule ftp or email photos and I don't want to build a mechanical device to pass in front of the lens on schedule.

EVERY IP camera has scheduled photos, except this one. All of my other IP cameras can ftp photos to my website or send me email photos on schedule.

Other Thoughts: This would be a great camera if it had scheduling in addition to motion detection.

I bought two more before I found the email issue. I hope the other two work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing.

We recommend you use the latest firmware v1.22 for IC-3115W. You can find it on Edimax USA site at http://us.edimax.com. It will help you with the sending email issue.

Our other camera like IC-7110W, IC-3110W, and IC-3110P have the scheduling function.

If you need any technical assistance, please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

Best regards,

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome for the price

Pros: Image quality is fantastic - great wide angle view. Works well with Blue Iris software.

Cons: No night vision and frame rate is too low at the highest resolution but I'm sure that varies depending on location of router/power of computer.

Other Thoughts: I had trouble with it initially where it would not stay connected to the router and had to be re-started every couple days. After a firmware update, it has since been rock solid and I've had it outside (on my porch) running 24/7 for six months now - through 100 degree and 0 degree days and it's not even recommended for outside use (of course I have it protected from water). I've just ordered a couple more. Thanks Newegg!!

1 out of 5 eggsSLOW fps, poor image

Pros: It does work

Cons: Poor resolution and very slow with perhaps 1 frame per second or worse. More like watching a photo!

Other Thoughts: Don't buy if you want to watch live video. More like taking pictures every second or 2

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry for the issue you are experiencing.

Did you view the Camera from a remote location? The camera is like a video streaming server which requires lots of upload bandwidth. If you have good download speed but limited upload speed, then the streaming will be slow.

If you view the camera from a local PC, you should not such issue.

If you need any technical assistance, please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

3 out of 5 eggsEasy setup, not reliable

Pros: Clear picture, easy setup, nice mount

Cons: Locks up after a few hours, requires a power cycle to restart it.
Doing a firmware upgrade on one bricked it.

Other Thoughts: No email response from support after 24 hours, so don't know if these cameras will ever work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customers,

We apologize for the difficulty you are experiencing. We appreciate your feedback and would like to assist you to resolve the difficulty.
We need more information from you to provide possible solutions to solve your problem.

The system might lost your email. Could you please take few minutes to send us a email again?
