4 out of 5 eggsGood, cheap system

Pros: Price, range, flexibility, ease of use

Cons: Cameras not weatherproof, only two cameras per base-station, no (built-in) way to rotate the video to be upright if you install the cameras hanging by the stand instead of sitting on it.

Other Thoughts: I spend a lot of time in the basement, and I want to see my front door and driveway without going outside and upstairs.

The cameras are not good for outdoor weather. I fixed this by filling every gap (and coating seams) with clear silicon. I also installed them under the eaves. I installed a new outlet inside the wall near my eave and am running the cameras off of the 110v outlet.

I use VLC to view/record the feed. 11 hrs of Mpeg2 video in 30.1GB. A decent mpeg4 codec, like divx or h.261, would make a lot smaller file. Timelapse recording (1/fps instead of 30/fps) would be even better)

VLC will alter the video as its displayed (rotate, etc) if you use the effects.

2 out of 5 eggsLorex LH114501 system

Pros: Easy to install, good price

Cons: Cameras cut out or freezes, moniter will read serching but last available immage will show. Any metal sidding or insulation with metal backing will kill signal. Customer service wait time may be 45 min or more Techs speak poor english(foreign nation). 1 camera died after 45 days and after 2 weeks still waiting for replacement. DVR tags are difficult to access (time and date). May get two different camera, 1 that can be used with booster, 1 that signal booster is incompatible but same part number. Very poorly managed company.

Other Thoughts: Out sourced productes that do not opperate very well, poor quality control. May not hold up over time. Sorry I bought this system.

5 out of 5 eggsCamera

Pros: It does exactly what I need it to do. Work well in both day and night situations.

Cons: Video quality is sometimes not the best.

Other Thoughts: For a cheap surveillance this does the trick.

4 out of 5 eggsFunctional and Inexpensive

Pros: Wireless signal transmits well. 9v power supply option is handy for short and sneaky recordings. Small camera size affords many options for mounting and hiding. Video clarity is good considering the price of this system.

Cons: Only one video source can be viewed at a time either with auto switch or manual mode. An option to see both images simultaneously is not available with this system. The night vision capabilities are primitive at best.

Other Thoughts: RCA video output requires a Female RCA to Male BNC adapter for use with a standard security based DVR. This is obviously an entry level system with entry level capabilities, but for the price, I have no complaints.
