4 out of 5 eggsYes it is free to view online

Pros: Great cameras, can view live cameras for free on the logitech alert site or mobile app.

Can use third-party software.

Can view live cameras when you're on site with VLC Media Player, which is quite very handy.

Logitech updates the software and the camera firmware once in a while, and I have noticed improvements after updates (such as less lag in the video).

Cons: No static IP support in the software -- have to do that in your router instead, which is't a huge deal, but it definitely is a major oversight.

Setting how much drive space to use to store video is a little flaky.

Watching recorded data (with a subscription) could be programmed better; it's kind of tedious.

Fragments my harddrive very badly, but that's 99.9% Microsoft's fault for their poor filesystem (NTFS).

Other Thoughts: ***To the other reviews, yes you CAN watch live camera footage for free; it's just recordings that require a subscription. No it DOES NOT cost a fortune for a subscription, it's pretty reasonable actually.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's ok

Pros: Night vision is excellent. Can be used with standard poe and third party software. Comes with many mounting applications

Cons: Motion is blurry. Worse at night. No security when used with third party software. Limited advanced settings. You can't use static IP, very basic picture settings.

Other Thoughts: Just an fyi, you can use this camera without the master pack. Use the included software to find the IP or check your dhcp log. I use BlueIris to view and record this cam and that software also lets you view over the web. The only difference I can tell with the "add-on" is that it doesn't come with the main powerline network adapter. Since I am using a standard POE switch, I don't need those adapters.

I installed all my cameras on an isolated switch so that should take care of some of the security issues but it would be nice if I could put a password on it.

1 out of 5 eggsThe camera that keeps on costing

Pros: High quality video capture with good software. Powerline connections.

Cons: As everyone points out, you must purchase the annual and expensive subscription to access important camera functionality, Powerline adapters are bulky, Unrealiable.

Other Thoughts: I have 2 homes in Hawaii and Austin. I have this system mainly to monitor our Texas property 10 months of the year in our absence. When I set it up initially and returned to Hawaii, the option to view the cameras disappeared from Logitech's web site. After pestering their support dept, they finally conceeded a problem with their server and stated I needed to reinstall the system. When I pointed out it would be ludicrous to travel from Hawaii to Texas to do that and asked for an alternative solution, Logitech stopped responding. What good is a surveilance system if it is not reliable?

1 out of 5 eggsMisleading Product Marking

Pros: Nice features

Cons: High Price. Have to pay additional subscription fees to use all the features printed on the box via remote network.

Power line adapters are HUGE! Coverage in a large house NOT guaranteed. Couldn't connect from one end of the house to the other...which is why I liked it because Wireless is tough too.

Other Thoughts: Already paying top dollar for capable hardware but being very misleading to capabilities that are "Free". Printing on box says Free viewing...also says PAN, TILT, ZOOM...but that is not Free! Pretty cagey marketing practice for such a reputable company...lowers my impression to the bottom of the list.

3 out of 5 eggsMixed feelings

Pros: Video quality is VERY good. Setup on PC is easy. Fairly granular/concise and advanced control. Audio quality is ok and volume (gain possibly) is controllable. Video can be flipped/rotated to accomodate for unique mounting situations. Many mounting options/hardware included. Can be mounted to a window/other surfaces easily with included hardware (to face either way). Viewing from Droid X was simple, convenient and quality looked good.

Cons: Small lag when viewing from local network (1-3 Seconds), larger lag when viewing from Web/smartphone (2-6 seconds). I have set up 2 systems at 2 different locations and when setting up 1 or 2 cameras on the same circuit, I had good results. When installing 3 or more cameras, however, I have had several issues with the cameras either not being detected at all or dropping off from time to time. I plugged all the powerline network adapters into the same extention cord and ran long network cables to all the cameras to fix the issue but this defeats the whole purpose of powerline networking now, doesn't it?

Other Thoughts: VIEWING from web/smartphone is free, CONTROLLING from web/smartphone is $80.
