2 out of 5 eggsflaky + WebCam does not work

Pros: Good photo quality (if target area is well lit)

Cons: WebCam feature totally does not work.
Instructions in the User's Guide for "Use as WedCam" (sic) are idiotic and could never work. They tell you to copy a directory, but if you follow the instructions, you have no access to the directory to copy at that point, and they don't tell you where to copy it to on your PC so there is no way that this new directory could be used. Nothing at all happens when you follow the instruction to plug into USB while A is held down for 8 seconds... or 60 seconds.

Contrary to the product documentation, the time-set program is Windows-specific, so the device requires Windows and is not Linux-compatible.

Often (incl. when I first tried to use it) the unit is completely dead. The work-around when this happens is to just plug it into a PC (via USB), let it mount up as usual, and safely remove as usual.

Not a good choice for low-light target areas. The images come out way too dark. I have a much lower quality and older unit that handles low-light

Other Thoughts: Would make usage less frustrating if they consulted a native English speaker before printing the manuals, but you can figure out the intentions.

The max time for recording, of a medium-lit room, is not the file system capacity , but the battery, which User Guide says is about 70 min., and is 80 min. for my brand new unit.

4 out of 5 eggsSuper Spy =)

Pros: Pretty neat little device. Great video and sound. I've already had success with recording business meetings with it.

Cons: WMP had a hard time playing its videos, but I use VLC Media Player anyway and it works great. The button sticks sometimes (usually exactly when I want to use it), but a few minutes of playing with it gets it going again. It's difficult to see if the recording light is on when out in the bright sunlight.

3 out of 5 eggsLousy instructions, DVD won't Launch any Play Video Software.

Pros: Although this price isn't Bad, you can find it at Geeks for 28. + and a cable included. No refills, though. It appears almost every one has a problem with the Video, Video. I got the pic (Video) function to work. You really have to read that joke of a manual repeatedly and figure out what they mean. Then proceed. Mode switch: I'm afraid it's going to break. So be careful with that. Mode sw: to right for Video, to left for Pics. Well, that depends on which way you hold the darn thing. And they do not tell you. And until you get something working, you don't know. Initially, I apparently pressed the buttons too fast. The pen completely locked up. I tried the reset button and NO JOY. Frozen. Here's the Fix: Make sure the Pen is unplugged so there is no additional charging. Lay it down and go to bed. By morning, it will be flat. (Just like unjamming a Laptop: Turn Off, Remove batt. all usb's and let any residual juice dissipate. Wait 15-30 minutes. Reverse, & Viola.)

Cons: In the morning, recharge the unit. Should be OK. Now, with the Male USB pointing towards you, Right is A/Video, Left are Images. Practice with the still pictures first. When you get that down, your ready for the A/Video. Pay close attention to the timing on the yellow-blue to yellow to blue and back to yellow, the long hold on button when yellow, 3-5 seconds, to turn off. As a precaution, I wouldn't do anything while attached to power. I'm sure, since my reset doesn't/didn't work that the CMOS may have gotten "singed" LOL. Now for that DVD. There is only one executable file. The Time Set. It does work, after some effort, but I saw the dates that were in memory and they were over 10 years ago. How long have those programs been around? Also, the TimSet worked on F dr where the Pen was. I had to reset Again, But this time the Software went after the E dr also, where I keep critical B/U. Tried to remove E from it's selection leaving F, appeared that I had succeded (cont'd)

Other Thoughts: but when it said Finished, it showed both E and F as having been "molested." LOL :( One Review seem to indicate that the DVD did provide viewing software. I would like to know where the .exe is. I saw the settings listed for CMOS if needed should Pen not be recognized. But no viewing SWare. Another Review said he used Freeware VLC Media Player. Will have to try that. I tried 3-4 Major player SWare with NO luck. The A/Video I have has Audio playback, but as I said, NO Video. For those of you worried about being discovered because of the light: Once you get the hang of the button pushing timing, How about a little Black Electric Tape :) The instructions say use a nonmetallic item to reset through the pin hole. OK. Another vendor says use a Paper Clip. OK. What ?!? OK, get out the toothpick and have it break off in there ? What! My Pen is on the way back. I'm not taking any chances after the FREEZE Up. I like the Pen. They are available at different Vendors $ ? Try Veho Muvi

4 out of 5 eggsCool, but novelty.

Pros: It's a very neat item.. Pen works, comes with refills. Good conversation piece.

Cons: Even for such a small device, for the price, I was expecting just a little bit better quality in lighted areas. It does good in sunny outside conditions but even with a lot of lights on in the house it's not quite as good.

Other Thoughts: I personally don't use the video option so I can't comment on that.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great for the price

Pros: Good picture. Good price. Very well constructed and heavy duty. Works right out of the box and came already charged. Looks just like a pen so very Came in a tin case, nice touch. Rosewill impressed me with this and will remember the brand.

Cons: Virtually no low light functionality - very poor picture or none at all in low light but i anticipated that so no big deal for me. Even in high light conditions picture quality is just ok but for the price it"s pretty good. My pc recognized the pen right off and could browse all folders. Haven't installed the included codecs because I use VLC which plays the video back no problem.

Other Thoughts: Overall I am pretty happy with my purchase. Fits my needs just fine. Good cost/value purchase. If you are needing better pic quality or better low light performance your gonna have to spend a little more but overall this is a good product at this price point.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Buy

Pros: The audio and video quality are amazing for a device of this type. It does a great job of picking up audio even when covered by a jacket.

Cons: None.
