Features

Samsung

Quick Setup and Intuitive Operation

The SmartCam HD Outdoor Wi-Fi camera is up and running in a matter of minutes using Wi-Fi Direct on any iPhone, iPad or Android device. No software or CDs required! Simply download the free SmartCam app and follow the easy, step-by-step process to launch your remote viewing from anywhere, anytime.

Samsung

1080p Full HD Video Quality

The SmartCam HD Outdoor Wi-Fi IP camera's 1/2.8-inch CMOS sensor processes existing light to render vibrant colors and vivid details in 1080p Full HD on your computer and desktop. Streaming in up to 720p to your smart device, the SmartCam Outdoor ensures that facial features and fine points won't go unnoticed. You'll know at a glance if your son's science project was a hit.

Samsung

IP66 Weather-Resistant Camera

Rain? Wind? The SmartCam Outdoor's performance in stormy weather will blow you away. With the IP66 weather-resistant rating, you can rest assured that this camera has been rigorously tested to withstand heat, cold, dust, wind and rain. So, although Mother Nature and Old Man Winter are welcome to make a cameo appearance in your video, they won't get to play the villains with your camera!

Samsung

Dual-Component Design

Samsung engineering maximizes the functional placement of this two-unit design. While the weather-resistant camera is placed outside, the indoor power/Wi-Fi module stays closer to the router for a strong signal. The camera and power/Wi-Fi components are connected with a simple cord which allows a small, discrete camera profile and eliminates the need for an outdoor electrical outlet.

Samsung

Motion Detection

Movement often signals that something in the camera's view needs your attention. The SmartCam HD Outdoor can be custom set to the level of event sensitivity you prefer for triggering alerts. Maybe you want to know when a car comes into the driveway or when the neighborhood lacrosse game crosses into your crocuses.

Samsung

Motion Zone Select

Motion Zone Select further fine-tunes what you want the camera to pay attention to. If a driveway gate is your area of interest, simply draw a box around it on your screen and the camera will alert you when someone comes or goes. You can select up to three motion zones in the camera's field of view.

Samsung

MicroSD Memory Card Slot

The SmartCam HD Outdoor provides a local storage solution, recording video directly onto a microSD memory card with up to 32GB capacity. Set your camera for continuous recording or, to minimize viewing time and storage space, for recording only when motion events are detected. The saved video can be remotely viewed from any computer or Android or iOS device.

Samsung

Email and Mobile Notification

With the Samsung SmartCam HD Outdoor camera, you always know what is going on, even if you're behind closed doors or out of town. You can set your camera for instant email alerts and push notifications to your smart device whenever significant motion is detected - and monitor the event in real time while it is automatically recorded onto a microSDHC memory card. Bringing your safety to the forefront, Samsung empowers you to respond instantly to unexpected events and review stored recordings.

Samsung

Ultra-Wide Angle

If no one's allowed in the pool while you're away, seeing only part of it could send you off the deep end. Samsung's 128-degree Ultra-Wide Angle lens lets you dive into the whole scene - expanding your recording coverage without compromising quality.

Samsung

True Day & Night

The SmartCam HD Outdoor features an advanced IR Cut Filter for accurate, vibrant colors and a Night Vision mode to capture clear, illuminated footage up to 50 feet. That means you'll know at a glance if the midnight bandit on the deck has two feet or four.

Samsung

Samsung Light Enhancer (SLE)

It's probably just the squeaky swing set creaking in the nighttime breeze, but you only have to check your smartphone to be sure. The SmartCam HD Outdoor camera is equipped to enrich available light in dark areas, providing superior image detail in even the most challenging low light conditions.

5 out of 5 eggsCompact outdoor quality true HD camera

Pros: I had been wanting to upgrade to true HD quality cameras for some time. When I saw these I decided to give them a try and they have been working great for several months now. I looked at a number of different options before purchasing these and these seems to be a really good value for the number of options. At first, I was planning to use the built in SD card memory to record. But I wound up trying the software from Blue Iris which works great with these cameras. Since I wound up using the software and it can create recordings using many more options, there was no need to get extra SD memory cards for these. The picture quality is excellent and has a nice wide field of view. In daylight, the image quality is in full color and very sharp and clear. At night, it automatically switches off color, but still has great image quality and sharpness in pretty low light levels. The separate controller and camera seemed a bit odd at first, but I really like it after getting it installed as the outside camera is very small and hardly noticeable on my house.

Cons: Setup does require a phone or tablet with WiFi on the same network and at least temporarily installing their app for the initial configuration. The app is functional but pretty basic.

Other Thoughts: I just have to comment on some of the other reviews negative comments. There seem to be a few mentioning bad/poor picture quality. I have a few of these and have excellent picture quality on all of them. A lot of the other complaints are ridiculous. Example: yes it has audio support, but requires external microphone and speaker. This is a consumer level product and not a $500+ commercial/industrial level product. The fact that it has the feature if you want to add the additional parts is great. Maybe read the product description before you buy, huh? For others complaining about difficult installations: the installation is not difficult at all --- well unless you cannot read simple step by step instructions that are very clear and easy to follow. Network cameras do take a little work to setup, these are not unreasonably difficult to get going. Just keep in mind, these are real HD quality outdoor cameras that can be had for under $200. That is a pretty good deal which makes this a good product.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality

Pros: Small outdoor 1080 camera. The ability to record to a SDCard. Great motion detection. Wide viewing angle

Cons: Very overpriced. Difficult to install. You need a separate microphone and speaker for audio that plugs into sender unit only and not the camera. This will cause you to run extra cables if you can even find a mic and speaker. Short cable from camera to sender unit. Max 32GB SD Card. Unit worked less than 24 hours before it failed. Online and Smartphone application is difficult to navigate with many screens of navigation and no printed manual to find the correct screen to view and set events. No Linux computer support even though camera operating system is Linux. Need 500k upload for HD Video. In the advertisement you see a raccoon on a porch. With this camera there is no way you could see if it was a raccoon or a cat. When motion is detected this camera does not send a picture to your smartphone like the other Samsung Smartcam indoor cameras do instead it gives you an ip address of the camera. When mounting the camera it was difficult to position and tighten the collar and left me feeling it would move in a high wind situation.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this unit because I already have two Samsung smartcams inside my home and wanted to use one application to connect to all the cameras.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat WiFi camera, easy setup

Pros: 1080p video
Remote monitoring via Samsung website
iSpy and Blue Iris support (SD card not required)
Works with select Synology NAS devices
Wireless and Wired install option
Configured in 5 minutes
Installed in about 30 minutes

Cons: Can only set a static IP on the built in NIC. For WiFi static IP addressing, I had to allow it to grab a DHCP address and then assign it via the ASUS web interface. Not ideal but it works. ~~~~~ I have two of these and neither one is able to locate the 5GHz frequency (SSID) that are broadcasting. On my PC, I'm able to pick up several of my neighbors' APs that are running 2.4 and 5GHz but these only pick up 2.4. I have the ASUS RT-AC68U as the main router. Don't get me wrong, this works just fine over 2.4GHz ~~~~ I have 6 x SNH-P6410BN indoor cams and they are able to operate on both 2.4 and 5GHz. I'm not sure why the outdoor version would not support both as well.

Other Thoughts: These cameras work great so far. I wish I could upload a few pics because the quality is amazing. ~~~

The cord that connects to the camera is NOT removable on the camera end. It's permanently attached so you have to feed the cable from the camera mounting location to the indoor control box. Also the cable end is NOT a RJ45 connector. It's slightly smaller but still larger than a RJ11 (phone connector). ~~~

If you have several cams to monitor live feeds AND record in HD with iSpy or Blue Iris, you may want a Quad Core i7-4790K or better to keep up with the CPU needs. I ended up doing this because I had 6 cams at the time (now 8) that the CPU usage was pretty high (over 70%) with a i7-920. With the new system, it's running at about 20-25% usage.

1 out of 5 eggsCan't handle daylight; intrusive, crippling Samsung "cloud" interface

Pros: Great image after dark, even with IRs turned off, if there's any ambient light at all (street lights, normal floodlights, etc). With IRs, typical spooky B&W image; w/o IRs, good color even at night.

Cons: Image is completely washed out after the sun rises - totally white by 8:30 am in January - so it's completely useless outside during the day, even on an overcast day. Two cameras in a row did exactly the same thing, so it's not just a sample defect. If you insist on buying this camera, get a Newegg Premier membership first, because you'll need the free return shipping.

I HATE Samsung's insistence that you control the camera through their cloud server. It's even worse than Razer's Synapse. There's very little you can do with just the camera's internal web page; you have to log in to Samsung's smartcam.com site to control the camera in your own house.

Even through smartcam.com, control is very minimal. You're pretty much stuck with whatever setup Samsung wants you to have.

Other Thoughts: For just a little over half the cost, Hikvision makes FAR better cameras, the best home security cameras by far for the price. The 3-megapixel Hikvision DS-2CD2332-1 gives an amazing range of control directly in the camera, things like adjustable backlight compensation that I've never seen in a sub-$150 camera before, and spectacular images 24/7 with the IR turned off. It sees better at night than I do. And (unlike this Samsung) the Hikvision is ONVIF compliant, so setup in Blue Iris is nearly effortless.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great and easy to use

Pros: Samsung SmartCam HD Outdoor (SNH-E6440BN) exceeded my expectations. Has worked flawlessly with crystal clear footage and accurate alarms and instant email notifications through Gmail or iphone. Quality of picture is really good and delay is minimal.
Setup was simple.

Cons: I am planning to purchase two more units to cover additional points around my house. I definitely (and enthusiastically) recommend this product.

5 out of 5 eggssamsung smartcam outdoor

Pros: - Extremely high picture quality. If your bandwidth allows, it can broadcast in true 1080 resolution.
- Relatively easy to setup. Power the camera on, wire attach to your router / switch, go to the Samsung smartcam to register, you're good to go
- Record continuous video footage for consecutive 3 days (32GB) and can be playback anytime. Auto-Loop SD card when it's full
- Send alert when motion alarm is detected, by email and/or iPhone/Android pop-up
- Very impressive night vision, super long range
- Record footage even when the network is down, since the recording is done from SD card
- No recurring rip-off monthly service fee like "Draw dropcam"
- Waterproof for sure (had storm hit the Bay Area on mid December and works like a champ when exposed with rain)
- Stable wifi network connection through stucco walls and siding, about 50 feet away from base, no drops ever since deployment
- Small profile, pretty stealthy if you want to hide it. Yet, the IR lights are clearly visible in the dark so not to stealthy but works as a criminal deterrence.
- Free apps for both iPhone and Android
- Sectional monitoring area so you can focus on certain coverage area instead of the whole screen
- Don't need to setup with DynDNS or register static IP to make it work. Samsung's Smartcam got you covered.

Cons: - No snapshot email notification. When I get the alert, I have to log on to the video playback, to trace what triggered the alarm. A snapshot of the triggered scene emailed to me would be great
- Expensive.. oh well, yes, I know I know.. you DO get what you pay for, but it'd be great that they reduce the price point a little bit

Other Thoughts: Overall, I think Samsung is better way to go than cheap no name IP camera or dropcam or anything wired dvr systems.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's just OK

Pros: Its waterproof its the first cam I have had.
Its working so far .
The storage device and wi fi connection is separated from the camera.
Its not that difficult to use of install but you have to stumble through it due to lack of instructions.

Cons: The software is kind of clunky especially the stuff where you to through a PC , There are practicality no instructions and the Tech department for cams for Samsung is unreachable most of the time for this product.
Even though the wi fi repeater is very close to my wi fi base station I am sometimes getting disconnects. Its very slow to hook up to the software but its Ok most of the time.

There is no audio only jacks in the wi fi pod where you could plug in a speaker. I have called tech support on this they are clueless.

Other Thoughts: As mentioned in another review there is a long cable attached to the cam itself. and its not detachable this was
good for me but I can see it will not be good for everyone.
The software is really clunky. Its slow to react and the options for halting playing and going on to the next segment aren't explained and leave a lot to be desired.
Did I mention lack of INSTRUCTIONS.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Quality but much more was expected.

Pros: The whole concept of detachment of the camera and the base unit was very exciting! The camera is very small and much smaller footprint than Logitech Alert 700 model cameras. I needed something comparable to the Logitech since they no longer carry the security cameras, and 4 of my Logitech 700 broke shortly after 13 months. I disgress, the Samsung has a great resolution and mix that in with Blue Iris you have a winner.

Cons: I think the cons may outweigh the PROs for this camera. First off the pictures on their website does not show that the RJ12 cable for the camera to the base is permanently attached to the camera. There is no where of removing it from the camera. I was hoping to use my existing logitech RJ45 runs to convert to RJ12 to utilize the in wall cables that I have pre-installed to the outside of the house. The RJ12 head seems unique to Samsung but I could be wrong, because I wanted to shorten the cable from 30 ft to about 5 ft due to the placement of the camera. I will have to look to see if I can cut the wire and put on the Rj12 head, but I took the spare rj12 head and placed it into the base unit and it does not sit well inside the port. The whole wire attachment to the camera made the installation of the camera to the exterior wall a job for two. The ball joint looks like it's plastic but with a chrome type paint on it. The picture quality on this camera seems very grainy to me and the night vision is very limited to the depth of field. If there are objects on the ground, the night light would focus in on that area making the surroundings dark. My camera is placed about 20 ft above ground as well. You can find the image here : http://imgur.com/Dyquz4t

Other Thoughts: It is much cheaper than the Logitech counterparts. I would love to go with another 4-5 more of these units but after my initial reactions of the two units I ordered. I may have to hold off but Samsung presented such a great offering and just falling short of it. If they could make a detachable RJ12 cable this would bing this up one more star.
