5 out of 5 eggsGreat camera for home surveillance and security.

Pros: I have to wonder how someone with a "High" tech knowledge is still using JPEG when H.264 js a far superior protocol for IP cameras, the details also clearly states that Internet Explorer 6.0+ is THE only browser supported.
With just a 1MP CMOS sensor this camera has an excellent picture quality both in JPEG and H.264, you can easily see who and what's going on in your home and yard.
The user menu is slick and super easy to setup, wireless mode allows easy placement of a camera within 6ft of a 120v AC power socket, Panasonic is also very good at supplying support and upgraded software/firmware for their products.
The small size of the camera make it easy to hide the camera.

Cons: The 6ft long power cord is a bit short for some installations.
It would also be nice if some decent recording software was included that offers Cloud support.
It would also be nice of the camera offered audio.

Other Thoughts: A great inexpensive smartphone app is IP Camera Viewer.
Mangocam offers cloud based camera footage backup for an extremely reasonable fee, offsite recording is a must if using your camera for security just in case the thief walk off with the PC you were recording to.

1 out of 5 eggsDismal JPEG Quality

Pros: 1280x720 at a reasonable price.

Cons: Dismal JPEG quality and web config only via Internet Exploiter (Firefox/Chrome/Safari all incompatible). Compare the image quality side-by-side to the old BL-C1A and you almost want to cry. Add in that only IE works (and even then, only after installing their proprietary viewer) and this is one of the worst backwards product steps you will encounter. All the specs says the VP series should be far better, but horrible image quality in good light and terrible low-light performance make you wonder what went wrong at Panasonic. I kept looking to see if there was a plastic protector or other physical barrier preventing the image sensor from functioning properly, but alas no.

Possible the H.264 quality is fantastic and they simply botched the JPEG quality beyond comprehension. Since my home monitoring software captures JPEG, have not tried H.264 to find out.

In addition to a number of BL-C1A's, I also own some Axis 206s-- all quality cameras. This camera is a dud. I ordered two, but have no interest in opening the second to find out it is the same as the first.

If somebody figures out some magic trick to make this camera capture good JPEG images, please post. I so desperately wanted this to work given my prior good experiences with Panasonic.
