1 out of 5 eggsAweful

Pros: Nice box?

Cons: First, it does not come with the basics. IE; HDMI cord, Video cord, HDD. Things that you would expect to be included in the purchase. The unit I got was unresponsive. It didn't work, so thinking they might have half decent customer service at Laview. Oh how I was wrong. It took two days to get a person. Calling whenever there was a chance, we only got an answering machine. They told us to get this, buy that. When in the end it didn't work. All we wanted was a new DVR. We got the info to send it back to the company, got it all packed then they told us we couldn't ship it to the US company it had to be the Canadian one, so we called again. Another 2-3 days of waiting for a human being. All in all, pretty big waste of time and money for this.

Other Thoughts: Work on your customer support and maybe include the basics.

4 out of 5 eggsGood unit for the price

Pros: Everything you need to get started except the HD. I installed a 1 TB disk and it works fine although I had some initial difficulty getting it going. I called tech support and was able to talk to a helpful support person, but he was unable to solve the problem. I finally got it working after fooling with it on my own after about an hour. The user interface is fairly straight forward. It was easy to get up and running fairly quickly. I found some useful videos and supplemental instructions on the LaView web site.

Cons: The user manual is minimally useful. The picture clarity is marginal and it's difficult to see details (like faces) even within 10' of the camera. The camera motion detection is OK except in bad weather, it is useless. Foggy weather is the worse. With the IR on, fog looks like a snow blizzard and records essentially all the time. I plan to install separate motion detectors to trigger recording which will minimize false alarms.

Other Thoughts: I was able to get the HD running by removing it from the DVR and installing it on my PC. Once I saw the disk was recognized by my PC, I re-installed it in the DVR and it worked as advertised. I did not format it from my PC! I have no idea why that worked, but it did. I had removed and re-installed the HD at least once in the DVR in my initial attempts to get the disk working, so I don't think it was because I did something wrong during the install. I was a computer field service engineer for years, so I'm fairly comfortable installing disk drives. I hope this info helps someone else...
If you use this system in conjunction with motion sensing floodlights you will get much better results at night. TIP: Use electrical tape on the camera connections to help seal out dirt and moisture and prevent the power connector from being accidentally disconnected.

3 out of 5 eggsGood core product, bad peripherals

Pros: The central unit works as advertised and is a good recorder for the price.

Cons: The mouse and remote are useless, stop working almost immediately and aren't labeled properly. The manual is in incomprehensible machine-translated Chinglish so don't expect any help there. You have to just do trial-and-error on the very unfriendly interface using the main unit buttons.

Other Thoughts: Typical low-priced Chinese product -- you can get the basic functionality working if you know what you're doing but don't expect to get any support or for any of the frills to work.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy!!!

Pros: Everything you need comes in the box, extremely easy setup. Took me only two hours to unpack, install one camera, connect to DVR, do minor programming and learn how to use. I was also able to connect it to my home network and also broadcast it to the outside world all in those 2 hours. Connecting the other three cameras will be a breeze. Quality of resolution is great, switches from day mode to night/infrared mode automatically and efficiently. Even has option to use Dropbox as an external location for recordings.

Cons: Haven't found any.

Other Thoughts: For the price, this far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this set to anyone.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Home Security DVR System

Pros: Good quality 600 TVL cameras.
Easy installation.
Everything included in the box, I just added a hard drive.
Great Technical Support
Remote access from iPhone, Android and web, P2P, DDNS, etc.
YouTube how-to videos

Cons: Somewhat lacking/confusing in detailed documentation.
Needs more examples/screenshots/How-to videos

Other Thoughts: Although the system worked great the moment I installed the hard drive and plugged in the cameras, I needed some technical support to get the setup and remote access the way I desired. Technical Support provided assistance and got me over all the small hurdles.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: This is my first security system the I ever purchased. What a great product, it works perfect. What I like about it is when I'm not home I'm able to open the app to see what's going on at my house. Easy set up and when it came to adding IP from router that's when I had to call support at LaView and they walked me threw the step's. I would highly recommend this system to anybody and the price was right also.

Cons: If you're not tech sabby the direction are somewhat hard to understand. The software that comes with system not sure what's that for. Also if you change router or carrier (cable company) you will need to change IP address in your App setting (had to call LaView support for that fix)

Other Thoughts: Would highly recommend this Company to anybody that's looking for security systems

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Works Great got online in notime. The 600tvl cameras are amazing compared to the ones I got with my original zmodo system. I bought this system mainly for the cameras and to go online and for the cameras this system is worth ever of the $100 + free shipping deal newegg offered me. Installed a 250gb hdd in it no problem had included sata power and data cable inside. Setup online with p2p and the app easily after forwarding the ports of my router.

Cons: none so far sometimes all my cameras aren't loading on the app will load 3/4 or sometimes all of them but may need to mess with configuration a bit

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Simple setup out of the box. Cables are 65', I had to order a (1) 100' cable to reach one location on my house because I was too lazy to locate this in my basement where all of the provided cables would have easily reached. No hard drive provided and that frees me up to choose what I want to install and keeps the price down. I purchased this unit on sale for (US)$79 with a $10 off coupon. Picture quality is very good. Worked out of the box. Has lots of additional features suck as email notification and movement alarms. Great for the price. Unit will take SATA internal hard drive or external USB hard drive. I have had no problems at all with this unit.

Cons: Documentation is okay, but there are no step by step setup instructions for email notification or the other built in features. Also, the online P2P only works with Internet Explorer, not google. It took me a few to figure that out.

Other Thoughts: Great unit especially for the price. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a 4 camera system with no hard drive.
