5 out of 5 eggsGreat System

Pros: Don't listen to all the negative reviews. This set is awesome! The night vision is really good. To get the best night vision you need to configure your cameras and the mobile app is awesome!!! You can get bad hardware anywhere it just takes ups to drop your box and your dvr is toast. Yes it can happen and does more than you think. I have hooked up 2 of these sets so far and not a bad experience yet. They still running great and can view all from my cell phone. Great set would recommend again. Purchasing another set right now.

Cons: None Yet

Other Thoughts: Dvr is really advanced can be tricky to configure if you don't have any technical knowledge.

5 out of 5 eggsGood system

Pros: Works as advertised. Night-time picture is not the best possible, but enough to see the perps and their faces. Make sure you have motion lighting in the area near the "most critical" cameras to help at night.
Regarding the negative review here - sure you get occasional defective hardware anywhere so long as you buy stuff often enough. Mine was nicely made and I couldn't see any craftsmanship defects.

Cons: None so far. Peer-to-peer is not working and their website instructions don't match up with the software that mine came with, but this is not a big deal for me. For remote viewing I just opened the ports on the router and navigate directly to the DVR (use their DDNS, it works or you can have your own too) - they have instructions on that.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage - Do Not Buy

Pros: None

Cons: This DVR is absolute garbage. Out of the box the DVR started having software issues and broken hardware. The power adapters for the cameras couldnt handle the current and died after several days. The software is horrible. Interfacing directly with the unit via mouse/usb the unit locked out admin after a simple password change.

Furthermore, tech support was given the serial number and provided the superpassword but it failed. They said it has software issues and to RMA it.

The LaView RMA department refused to send shipping labels for anything or send an RMA and reverted back to talking in circles and try to avoid the issues, saying they will call back.

With 15 cameras in place at a large factory, there is no DVR in placenow because of La View unprofessionalism, lack of support, broken equipment and terrible software.

Other Thoughts: for something mission critical it is better to simply spend the money and have a professional system installed.

This is apparently mass produced garbage from china. The laview phones are all answered by chinese, selling this garbage to people and laughing at everyone. Its a scam.

5 out of 5 eggsWould Recommend

Pros: Video and Picture detail is very clear. I mean very clear. Night time view is the clearest I have seen on a low end DVR system. Usually only see this on a 1500 dollars and up system .Great mobile viewing with Skyview cam. Can even do play back from your DVR with it. TV HDMI is how I would go. It looks great. But I use a 27 inch. High resolution monitor, Which looks the same.

Cons: Doesn't work with Laview or Laview HD app for android phones. Need to use Laview Plus or Skyview.. When hooking up to a video monitor it doesn't use defaut 1024 by768. So if your monitor dosen't support higher resolution you will have to use hdmi or use a different monitor and set the default resolution. Then you can use a low end monitor.

Other Thoughts: If you don't know about port forwarding on your router? I would look it up and learn a little about it. Or call a friend over who does and have him set that part up.

Pros: Perfect camera system for what i wanted. Came with 8 cameras. Very easy to install. Plug & Play. hardest part was running the wires through my attic, ceiling, basement, closet & outside of the house. Picture is crystal clear during the day & night vision is very clear also, its not that grainy green screen. it turns black & white at night. very good! I've had 3 other systems like this before & i have to say this one is the BEST!! I'm about to order a few more cameras, same brand, same exact cameras that came with it. This is a 16 channel dvr, I have 8 cameras going right now. I had to call Laview tech support to set up mobile viewing on my iphone. When i called the tech guy was busy so she took my name & he called back in like an hr or so. Very nice guy, took his time with me, walking me though everything. Made sure i understood everything & that everything was working before i hung up. He told me to call back anytime if i needed anymore help. This system is worth the money!! definitely would recommend this.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent system - great value

Pros: High image resolution - excellent clarity. Excellent, responsive tech support.

Cons: User manual

Other Thoughts: My Q-See system kept giving me white screens for some of my cameras and I needed something to tide me over until I was ready to buy an IP-based system. I was somewhat skeptical of the resolution claims for this system, but figured I couldn't go wrong for such an inexpensive system. Coming from a 500TVL Q-See system, I have to say that the LaView cameras blow the Q-See cameras out of the water - the images are stunningly crisp, well-balanced, and absolutely beautiful. They're so sharp, I can read the license plates of cars zooming to/away from my house. Night vision is unreal - extremely vivid and sharp, and again, blows the Q-See cameras away. Unfortunately, it does not have a PTZ connection, so that may dissuade some customers who need that option.

The one issue I have with LaView is their poor documentation, or lack of. The user manual is just a stapled booklet with 10 pieces of paper - the worst I've ever seen and the PDF-version on the CD is exactly the same thing. Good thing LaView has a terrific support team - they're on the west coast and are not available until 12PM ET, so I submitted a ticket in the morning and by 12:15 ET I received a call, which I of course, missed. Not to fear: I received an email from tech support and eventually spoke with them and they resolved the issue I had in 2 minutes. They advised they're working on better manuals, so that should make everyone's lives a little easier.

For those of you who have never set up a surveillance system before, the toughest task you'll have is setting it up for remote viewing - the manual contains nothing for this. You'll have to go to LaView's YouTube site to watch the tech support guy (JC) walk you through the process. He makes it very simple to get you up and going within a few minutes.

Overall, I highly recommend this system - the quality is superb and the clarity is phenomenal both during the day and night. It has a small footprint so it doesn't take up much space and it's very quiet.
