2 out of 5 eggsFairly Cheap

Pros: So far the DVR is pretty good, cameras are ok at night and have a pretty good picture in the daytime.

Cons: Cameras are made very cheap and don't last long! When I bought my system it was almost $1,000.00. It's all made in China! And made cheap!!!

1 out of 5 eggsbad qsee

Pros: None

Cons: This review is of q-see and not just this dvr, as they don't make mine anymore.

I bought this dvr to watch the house when no one is home. The first month it worked great, i thought, when I wanted to watch what happens the day before it had stopped recording the week before, over the next few months it locked up 4 or 5 more times, locked up being not recording, it still shows the live picture but wont record until powered off and back on. So I contact q-see and they say to send it in to be fixed , $15 and 2weeks later I get it back and hook it up, same problem, I send it back 2 more times, almost $50 in shipping and still get back the same broken machine over and over again, so last time I made them pay for shipping and they said they would give me a new one, well, I got back the same one again and it still does not work almost a year later

4 out of 5 eggsGreat system for home use

Pros: Great system for the money, DVR is nice and so far seems to work fine, Cameras are small and they work good in little to no light within 15 to 30 feet, easy to hook up and good tech support.

Cons: The hook up wires that come with the system are cheap and not UL rated, which means you can't run them through walls (well you could, but you shouldn't). All of these lower end systems come with non UL rated wires.

Other Thoughts: You should use RG-59 siamese cable to hook up these cameras. RG-59 cable is UL Rated and will give you good video and power at least 200ft away. Now if you use RG-59 cable you will need to buy some Male & Female power leads and BNC cable ends, plus to do it right you will need a BNC crimp tool. Another thought, I searched the best place to buy this system and found that NewEgg was the best place to buy it from. They give you a 30 day return and you can even buy up to an extra two year warrenty.
