5 out of 5 eggsGreat system for the price

Pros: Easy to setup. Remote viewing from phone and computer is nice. Able to add more cameras. Night vision is not great, but is better than I expected at this price.

Cons: None. Got this about 3 months ago and haven't had any issues

Other Thoughts: People are expecting way too much for a system in this price range. Complaining about the field of view of the cameras and night vision. Many of the better cameras alone cost much more than this entire system.

3 out of 5 eggsAn alright system

Pros: 1. DVR was pretty easy to setup and configure.
2. Price was nice when i caught it on sale - $179.
3. Camera zoom. I have a 12" monitor and it is nice that when motion is detected, the 5 small views zooms to the one with activity.

Cons: 1. The cameras that came with it have a very narrow field of view and IR don't light up much at night.
2. The DVR lags in sending out motion notification emails.
3. Metal mounts on aluminum soffit caused all sorts of problems. Had to buy special rubber connectors to keep the ground distortion out of the video.

Other Thoughts: Overall, i am satisfied with this system. I have had it up and running for over a month now. I tried to use one of the cameras that came with it on my porch, but it didn't have a wide enough view. Ended up buying a different wide angle camera and love it. One thing that bothers me is that it doesn't email very quickly. I manage a network and have our own mail servers, so i can see when the device tries to email me. It typically takes 3 - 7 minutes to get an email from the DVR when it detects motion. Doesn't help much if somebody is breaking into your house.

One thing i learned setting these up, installing on aluminum soffit caused the picture to be not viewable. I ended up going online and finding information about ground distortion. To solve this, I went to local hardware store and bought rubber washer/nuts that kept the metal base from touching any metal. Cleared the picture right up on the cameras. Interesting i didn't have the problem with the camera i bought separate from the system.

For the price, and being a starter system, i am not disappointed with my purchase. I enjoy being able to watch the monitor from my chair and see when their is activity around the house.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not respond to Mouse, Remote of buttons

Pros: Features, Price

Cons: Doe not seem to work.

Other Thoughts: Sat in box for a while, so it is too late to return to Newegg. Hooked it up and it worked great... For 1 day. Now none of the controls are recognized.

3 out of 5 eggsKinda what i was looking for

Pros: crisp and clear
able yo hhok up more if needed
good and easy net viewing
easy to install with ballons

Cons: 2 broke after 3 months

Other Thoughts: installed the system using cat5e with ballons.very easy to install. took a little while trying to configure the zones and other various things but once you figure it out its smooth sailing. 2 of the cameras broke in 6 months. these cameras can see in good detail alot further than they say they can. installed them 40 feet up and could see the license plate on a care 150 ft away. just to bad the quality wasnt there or they would have gotten five stars

5 out of 5 eggsCameraz

Pros: Easy and quick to setup. I had it fully setup and recording video within about an hour of installing the hard drive.

Cons: Colours on the cameras are a bit washed out during full day light, wish the BNC/power cable was a bit sturdier. Drive was a little frustrating to install due to only having two standoffs instead of standard drive rails.

Other Thoughts: The other reviews complain about the narrow field of view on the cameras however mounted on the soffets of my 2 story house they cover the yard/driveway quite well. All said and done I have an amazing security system for $220 with a bit of sweat equity. A similar system from a commercial provider started at $1999.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: I have had this running for about 6 months now. Can't beat the price and features. Love the motion sensored recording. Easy setup and configuration. I know other reviewers have complained about hdd setup and camera quality. I didn't even look at the manual and set up hdd and everything just fine, and for a home security system, the cameras are great, even in night vision. If you're trying to make other recordings with it, then you are using the wrong equipment. I love the iPhone and web clients also.

Cons: The menu system is a bit clumsy and cumbersome. Not too bad once you get used to it.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Out of the Box

Pros: Everything works well and does what it's supposed to do. Good customer service. Price/performance/customer service sold me on the product. All physical product seems well made.

Cons: Manual is a total joke. Good thing the customer service is above average, 'cause unless you have LOTS of technical computer knowledge, you will be lost in translation.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy Without HDD installed

Pros: I set up the cameras within a few hours. They work great have a decent picture. The DVR works just for viewing the cameras pretty well.

Cons: The DVR will not accept any of the 3 HDD that I have tried with it. I have called the company twice now and sent emails for help. The first call only told me to unplug the DVR and plug it back in. This works for some thing but not for a DVR that is not acknowledging a HDD. After playing with the HDD and reformatting them with a computer. I was able to get one that the DVR would acknowledge. I tried formatting the HDD using the DVR now it is just showing NO FORMAT and every time I try reformatting its giving me FORMAT FAILED. After this I called again I was told to format the HDD in FAT32. This is what I had them formatted in to begin with. There should not be this much of a problem getting the HDD to work with there DVR.

Other Thoughts: If you get system BUY with HDD already installed. Not worth all this hassle.

4 out of 5 eggsabout D1 DVR settings

Pros: I do not not own this setup, but I do have the DVR. I bought the "Night Owl B-PODVR-4CCD 8 Channel" system which has the same DVR, just different camera's. The recording by default is not set to D1, it is set to CIF which is 352x240 and D1 is 704x480. You have to change that in record functions, then record, then under frame rate. By default the frames per second are set to 7 too. If you lower the number for ports that you dont use from 7 to 1, then you can raise the frame rate for the ones that you use to give you better and less jittery/jumpy of video.

Cons: read my review under the "Night Owl B-PODVR-4CCD 8 Channel" system about good and bad points to the DVR

Other Thoughts: if you look at my review under the "Night Owl B-PODVR-4CCD 8 Channel" system, you can get the good and bad points to this system. I give a lot of good and bad points and settings that you may want to change on it in my review. As for this setup, I just can not say about the cameras on this system because they are different, but the rest of the system is the same. I have mine set to motion detect and a frame rate of 14 frames per second with a 1 Tb hard drive (1000 GB = 1 TB) and with 4 cameras all set to that, I have used about half the hard drive in about 5 months so that may give you an idea on how big of a hard drive to get for this. Mine monitors the back yard and 2 that monitor the front of the house/street. I live on a side street so it does not record constantly, but does record quite a bit. I have not connected mine to the net, only use it as a independent system so I can not say anything about compatibility or internet related features.
