1 out of 5 eggsDon't do it...

This review is from: Belkin F7C030fc WeMo Light Switch

Pros: It looks pretty. Works as a power button and works if you set a timed schedule. Neither of these are reasons why I invested in a $45 light switch.

Cons: Belkin is not investing in their technology, read the forums, it shows. http://community.wemothat.com

Do not try to use this as your approaching your home, the phone app and hardware do not communicate fast enough to do this reliably. And if you try to use proximity, it will turn the light on during the day.

1 out of 5 eggsGood idea, bad follow through

This review is from: Belkin F7C030fc WeMo Light Switch

Pros: When it works it is a very useful product.
Bash scripts for automation are easily found online.

Cons: Even with -45dB RSSI they refuse to stay connected to the network.
The WEMO app is useless (after initial setup), the only way I can control these switches is through linux command line.
WEMO chat support is clueless and tells you to restart the device over and over despite it not solving any issues.

Other Thoughts: Thinking the problem was wifi incompatibility I tested communication with my Xirrus array, Unifi AP, a Belkin SOHO AP, and finally the wifi built into my ATT dsl modem. All show the same connectivity issues.

I look forward to other products like this in the future but these feel like a pre-beta release that requires more testing.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great...if you use an iOS device

This review is from: Belkin F7C030fc WeMo Light Switch

Pros: Works as advertised. The "rules" part of the app don't work the way they are worded (hard to explain), other than that it's great. I have a personal iPhone, and a work Android phone. the iOS app works about 95% of the time. The Android app...the exact opposite. They clearly spent most of their time developing on the iOS side, since those devices are more popular.

Cons: Constantly nags you about firmware updates.

Other Thoughts: It's clear that others that own this product give low egg scores because of stuff that's not the fault of the manufacturer. Come on, giving it 1 egg because it won't take your weird WiFi password is just stupid.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works!

This review is from: Belkin F7C030fc WeMo Light Switch

Pros: Easy to install, if you have just a little understanding of electrical wiring. Neutral wire is mandatory, so may not work in old houses. There are tricks to networking the switches - Belkin reps are very nice and helpful - they really seem to want this to be successful. Easier to network and program using ipad than android phone, but Belkin has updated the software, so it's getting better and better.

Cons: Sometimes, some of the switches are lost by the system - not sure why, but the problem corrects itself eventually. I recently added Belkin Hi-def security cameras, but the night vision of the cameras is TERRIBLE, so it does a poor job of motion detection for controlling the switches. If a Belkin tech is reading this, please improve the cameras for low light!

Other Thoughts: Overall, the switches are really great and easy to control from a phone away from home.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

This review is from: Belkin F7C030fc WeMo Light Switch

Pros: Great promise

Cons: In an effort to improve our security, our home wifi LAN uses symbols in the password. No where in the Belkin literature did they indicated that their device will not accept symbols. After installing the device and downloading the app, I tried to set it up by connecting according to their instructions. I tried to enter our password and got a message saying that the Belkin WeMo device would not accept it because the password had symbols. Now I've got to reverse the entire process and try to get a refund from Newegg for the two switches I purchased. :(

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsGot it working

This review is from: Belkin F7C030fc WeMo Light Switch

Pros: Turns on and off as expected
Stays Connected to wireless network well even 2 storys down. And connected to DD-WRT router which I see some have had problems with not me luckily.

Cons: Acted like it was a refurb?
Turned it on did not broacast SSID to connect to.
Tried resetting many times. What finally worked to reset was hit the restart and then immediate after press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds.

Also noticed it had someone else in the Remote Access and devices like it was setup with someone else.

Other Thoughts: After getting it to work. Also seems if you manually turn it on or off on a day you have scheduled it seems to null and void any scheduled off or on times you have set.

I am using this to control and blower fan to bring cool basement air from behind 2 heatpump water heaters into the rest of the house.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: Belkin F7C030fc WeMo Light Switch

Pros: Owned for a few months now and have been through a few firmware and app updates. I have 3 installed now and loving the recent Smartthings integration. Setup could use a little help on android. I've had to clear data/cache on occasion to get it to work. Once set up these work great and have instant status reporting unlike most z-wave switches.

Cons: Could be cheaper by a couple bucks, I buy when they are on sale. Doesn't work in 3-way.

Other Thoughts: I'd gladly pay the regular price if they worked in 3-way configuration

1 out of 5 eggsterrible support when you have issues

This review is from: Belkin F7C030fc WeMo Light Switch

Pros: The switch works as a expensive switch

Cons: 0 egg if I can give it. I buy the switch to work with my android and it did for two months until they nag you to update their poorly tested firmware. that broke the app connection. ( ie your switch can break from their remote firmware updates and have no support once warranty is over)

This is the worse tech support I have ever encounter. The guy literally just ask you to reboot / reset your switch. Empty promise about call backs. and worse yet. The constant firmware updates broke the app since Feb 2014 and now its turned into an expensive switch that does nothing. Good luck in getting their support. you get first level support, no way to get their advance support. Waits 48 hours for them to not call you back. then when you followup, promised for another 48 hours for them not to call you back.......... now 2 more months still waiting for call back.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy another belkin product again.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsNice Idea

This review is from: Belkin F7C030fc WeMo Light Switch

Pros: Wireless, programmable, great if you travel a lot.

Cons: If it loses power you have to reset it. Also I don't think it likes Daylight savings.

Other Thoughts: I bought 3 of these and they work well. My home is older construction and the switches need a hole in the wall thats very deep. Overall I likes these. I just wish they were a little easier to set-up.

Manufacturer Response:
