1 out of 5 eggsDied after 18 months

Pros: Great while it lasted.

Cons: Although the unit is plugged into an expensive surge protector, it died after 18 months. Aposonic want $120 to fix it even though they haven't diagnosed it. I haven't sent it to them. They was &199 for a replacement unit. I'm considering my options. The DVR does NOT have a cooling fan inside so it is likely to die from over heating. That's my guess.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 1TB HDD allows for over a week of recorded video with all five cameras hooked up at highest resolution.

66' bnc and power cords were all sufficiently long enough for my application.

camera picture quality is good day/night.

tapCMS mobile program is easy to use and free to download.

easy to connect to your home network.

Cons: included rj45 cord is only a couple feet long

camera power adapters are large and will require a very large power strip/surge protector to fit all the cameras plus dvr and monitor.

no fan in DVR. i'm hoping this won't limit the life of the HDD when installed in hot areas like an attic or crawl space.

camera shade covers don't stay put when camera is angled too far up or down.

camera swivel mounts don't get as tight as I would like and the brackets are all plastic so I don't want to over tighten it and break.

Other Thoughts: Just remember when setting up the network to open ports 67, 68 and 8000 on your router and use your public IP address to connect. also make sure to change the user name and password before you do this.

also, the power connectors on the the bnc wire are not the same on both ends. make sure you have the right ends going to the right place before you snake it through 50' of insulation, studs and attic space. don't ask...

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Prompt shipping, everything arrived intact. Nothing was missing. Setup was easy, did have to look at the manual for a couple of things. Still have not gotten the motion detection areas setup, it appears that you have do that directly at the unit and not via the network interface.... All around it appears to be a ver sound unit. I will know more the longer I have it. The night vision appears to be pretty good.

Cons: Some things not as intuitive as you might think. Specifically with the camera connections on the back. All of the previous DVR's I've delt with the connections are sequential left to right, this one they go up, down, next column, up, down etc... This threw me for a loop when I had a camera that was not working. Once I looked at the connections I saw what was going on and problem solved. So far I can't see anything "wrong" with the system, just some things I would have done differently.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!!!!

Pros: Easy to install, HUGE manual with lots of information, very high quality video for the price. Night vision and motion detection excellent as well. Tech support superb.

Cons: Kind of quirky to set up, manual can be vague on some things.

Other Thoughts: Take your time, read the manual and call if you have questions. The support is very good and they will get you where you need to go very quickly.

4 out of 5 eggsAposonic A-BR18B5-B1TB

Pros: 1) Easy installation
2) Decent quality cameras
3) Large HDD
4) Nice DVR unit
5) Everything you need to get started
6) Good customer support
7) Easy to setup remote viewing on smartphone and/or tablet device

Cons: 1) No keyboard support (UI manage exclusively by mouse)
2) UI a bit clunky, but OK after getting used to it
3) Have seen better night vision, but works OK

Other Thoughts: I researched for a while before pulling the plug on this system. All in all, I'm happy with it and would recommend it to others.

3 out of 5 eggsWish it came with real instructions

Pros: Easy to set up cameras, good price

Cons: No printed instruction manual. The user guide is on a CD which is a jumble of files and folders with no real order. Once you find which manuals you need, prepare for 120 pages or more of specs and setup. There is no user friendly section that actually outlines the steps to installation and setting up your network interface. I had to go to aponsic's website to get instructions, which, once I got them, were pretty straightforward. The iPad and iPhone apps are free and work well. You will need a different user name for each device. It took awhile to figure that out, as only one device would work once I used the admin login. You will also need to go to your router's website for instructions on how to forward ports 67, 68 and 8000 so you can view the feed from a device that is not part of your network. If I had known all of this within the first six hours of setup, I would be a lot happier with the system. The camera quality on the big camera is good; the others are decent.

Other Thoughts: You will need to provide your own microphones for audio feed. There are two audio inputs on the DVR. Overall this seems to be a nice system; price was really good and it will more than suit our needs at our horse farm.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat System!

Pros: Easy to install and setup; just plug in and they work. VGA connectoron DVR is a plus, onnly had to set the DPI and the unit will advise on the optimum format. Camera range is excellent, as advertised and night vision is awesome. The tech support folks are always ready to help and are very polite and knowledgable. Buy this system if Egg gets some in!

Cons: One camera had a defective BNC connector preventing full lock of BNC connectors. One call to support, an emailed RMA, pay shipping one way only, Said turnaround was 3-5 business days. Sweet.

Other Thoughts: We have spent almost $1000.00 on so-called waterproof systems (wireless) and all the systems we bought, the cameras corroded, even when covered, or the cams just died. Buy this syatem or any one from Aposonic; you will be pleased.

5 out of 5 eggsAposonic A-BR18B5-B1TB 8 Channel H.264 Level Kit Solution

Pros: Bought 2 Aposonic A-BR18B5-B1TB for two different homes. Both are working great and easy to set up. One of the homes that I installed this unit. They wanted one of the cam's 350 yards away from the home. Still clear and great IR.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsAposonic A-BR18B5-B1TB 8 Channel H.264 Level Kit

Pros: High quality components. Menu easy to navigate. Support via email excellent.

Cons: No cons for the system or company. But for myself since I was hardly at the average tech level. But their tech support came through to compensate for my average level.

Other Thoughts: With average understanding of the entire DVD to Internet relationship, it took me a while to understand the connections. Once the connections were successfully made, and an email to Tech support solved a problem with the web browser connection (a very fast response from tech support), the system worked great.
